sport vs religion
by smiddy init came to me while i`m watching afl today ( ozzie football ), back in the 60`s / 70`s during the football season many bro`s elders and ms plus the r&f would have transistor radios glued to their ears listening to the commentary of the main game with one ear and the other taking in the scheduled program.
of the district assembly .was this just an ozzie experince ?
or did it happen in europe (soccer ) & usa (baseball / gridiron ) i know i did sneak out to a pub to watch the grand final one year then came back for the final program a little guilty.

The funeral stone.
>
> Sam died. His will provided $30,000 for an elaborate funeral. As the
> last guests departed the affair, his wife, Sarah turned to her oldest
> and dearest friend.
>
> "Well, I'm sure Sam would be pleased," she said.
>
> "I'm sure you're right," replied Jody, who lowered her voice and
> leaned in close. "How much did this really cost?"
>
> "All of it," said Sarah . "Thirty thousand."
>
> "No!" Jody exclaimed. "I mean, it was very nice, but $30,000?"
>
> Sarah answered, "The funeral was $6,500. I donated $500 to the
> synagogue. The whiskey, wine and snacks were another $500. The rest
> went for the Memorial Stone."
>
> Jody computed quickly. "$22,500 for a Memorial Stone?
> My God, how big is it?"
>
>
>
> "Two and a half carats." -

The Bible Students never went away. They just went into the wilderness to continue the work of the Harvest unnoticed by the world while the jw's under Rutherfraud were meddling in politics and paying a very heavy price just like today when they decided to become UN members under the ruse of needing a library card.

WARNING: Baptism Guilt Talk coming to a K Hall near you in April.
by Open mind injust a heads up to anyone who might still attend the occasional meeting, there's gonna be a major guilt talk on the service meeting during the week starting april 7, 2008. it's entitled "why put off baptism?
" (kinda weirdly worded title if you ask me.
sounds like it would be a list of good reasons to put it off.

Somebody should make the comment that baptism and partaking of emblems is only for anointed, and that there are no examples of children being baptized in the Bible.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses a cult? (No Exit)
by sacolton inthere is simply no proper or honorable way to leave the cult.
period.
to leave is to fail, to die, to be defeated by evil.

81. Hypocrisy http://www.orange-papers.org/orange-cult_q8.html
Cult members, including the leader, project their own sins and crimes onto people outside of the cult:
"They are dishonest."
"They are unspiritual."
"They have a hidden agenda."
"They are narrow-minded and intolerant."
"They are a bunch of bigots."
"They don't care about the future of the world."
"They are incompetent."
"They are trying to eliminate the competition."
"They are only in it for the money."
"They have an evil leader."
"They are immoral."
"They are ambitious and greedy."
"They are not doing the Will of God."
"They are not real Christians."
"They do not have a reasonable interpretation of the Bible."
"They lie."
"They are in denial."
"They have strange, illogical beliefs."
"They are acting crazy."
"Their lives don't make any sense."
"They are hypocritical."
And above all: "We are not a cult -- all of those other groups are. We work very hard to make sure that our group doesn't turn into a cult like them." -

It just occurred to me that jw's ask 80 questions of prospective inductees. There are over 80 on the above site that ought to be asked by the inductee of whether they apply to jw's.
