i think the real reason family members shun their "loved ones" is not because they love you and think it will bring you back, or that they are being obedient to god, but that you have totally embarrassed them, brought the family name into disrepute and it now brings into question how spiritual they are.. if they shun you, in their minds, they think the elders, and dubs will not think less of them.
its all about what the "neighbours " think not what the bible teaches.. its about pride not love.. what do you think?.

Vitty, I agree with you. I would only add that, like in my large, extended JW family, that when a family member is Df'd it is an opportunity/excuse to indulge in mean, cold behavior that is more rooted in old feuds, rivalries and pettiness than it is in righteous indignation.

Just a comment on the Big News. Unfortunately, I think there are many who would be dissapointed with anything less than the evening news showing video tape of Ted Jaracz doing the perp walk in handcuffs with a jacket over his head.
That's never going to happen. The Big News was a significant and meaningful development for our side and has already proven it by the flinch and blink of the WTS.

Seems to me the WTS makes their changes/reversals without fanfare. Like backing off of '75 and the 'generation' of 1914. These were all worked into WT study articles. Significant changes to marital sexual practices, grounds for scriptural divorce, and blood transfusion, as I recall were addressed in Questions from Readers.
Big Announcements seem to revolve around promoting a new piece of printed crap $$$.

Yeah, I had one. Carried all my committee stuff around, plus any publications I might need for the meeting. Also had one of those with the spring hinge. It got to where it would snap closed on my wrist like a clam when I reached into it.
Virgochik - Great sketch of your Dad and the status things, suit, tie, big briefcase, etc. I think it gratified the self image of the majority of small town elders.
maybe some of the oldtimers might remember, but i seem to remember in the early 1980's that the wts "updated" the babylon the great book where many of the old light was thrown out.
i was a teenager but i remember studying the book again in the 80's and some jw's were upset by the changes.
if they do the same thing with the revelation grand climax book aren't they afraid that those oldtimers might get disgusted and leave the org?
Wasn't the Babylon the Great book first realeased as a partial book on the first part of Revelation and then later the complete tome was released.? The Society got to double dip. It was so big there was a separate booklet for the paragraph questions. Made all those janitors and cement finishers feel like scholars.
my husbands cousin lives in a small rural area in illinois and over the weekend crop circles appeared in their soybean crop .
i just talked to his cousin , and she is beside herself from all the publicity .

LOL When I was growing up "stepping on a bean" was an expression similar to "stepping on a frog." I wonder if they wore a windbreaker.

I remember the disco days very well. Several younger elders and wive plus singles the same age really got into it when the movie Saturday Night Fever came out. dances and get togethers that included disco dancing were very popular. The Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Joe Tex, et al. We loved it, but it didn't take long for the older elders (elder olders?) let it be known they thought it was nothing more than a sex orgy set to music. The movie "Thank God it's Friday" gave it a second wind but pretty soon it got just too controversial. I had all the latest disco on 8 track. Still brings back mammaries when I hear it.
