  ok so i know its not really anything to do with jwness but we are struggling with baby names and really can't think of one we both like.

  its getting a bit desperate as i'm due in about 8 weeks .. i'm getting bored of looking at the same old names on the baby names websites so any suggestions would be much appreciated (girls please).. **cash prize for the one we choose!

  Get some ancestral info on you and your husbands family. You will probably find a trove of beautiful names that belonged to long departed forebearers.

  We have several children in our family named this way and they are very meaningful.

  This brought something to mind that happened recently. My four year old grandaughter was sitting in my lap when her mom returned from an errand. I started to tell her something funny that Emma had done while she was gone. She reached up and grabbed my lips between her little thumb and forefinger and said.."zip it!"

  Why don't parents of an abused child go straight to police, why go to an elder first??

  i hope i don't come across as judgemental but having read a lot on the current child abuse cases and the different threads on here, i am left wondering why on earth a parent of an abuse victim would go to an elder with the problem first and not straight to police?.

  as a parent myself i know that if anything like that happend to my child (this applies to when i was still an active jw as well as now) i would not hesitate in going to the authorities as soon as i found out, it wouldn't of crossed mine or my husbands mind to go to an elder.

  maybe after we had reported it but definitely never as the first port of call.

  We discovered the letter from the 21 year old 'brother' to our 12 yr old daughter about 7 pm one evening. The letter was explicit. The letter was encouraging her to climb out her window and meet him around the corner where he would be parked. "F--- your parents" it said.

  Thank goodness his plan was never carried out.

  We found out later that he had done the same thing with another elders underage daughter. That was kept secret to us at the time even though the creep had spray painted epithets on their driveway and had a long campaign of harassing phone calls in the wee hours of the night after he was told to stay away from that girl.. They kept their mouth shut even as the creep began openy befriending our daughters at the meetings, taking them in his car to congregation roller skating events. etc.

  I called two elders and they came to our house that night and read it. I told them I was going to the police the next morning. The hair on the back of their necks was standing up after reading the letter. They agreed it was the right thing to do. By the next morning I was getting calls to "cool down" and let the congregation deal with it , Matthew 18 etc blah blah. We went to the police and a female officer who was involved in the sex crimes division was livid and she took it from there. The creep ended up as a registered sex offender. We ended up being the bad guys for taking it to "caesar". The creep was DF'd. They had no choice.

  i love fireworks even now, so imagine how i was when i was a little boy.. .

  i celebrated bonfire night until i was 7. and then i didn't.. .

  my parents had become jehovah's witnesses, and realized that bonfire night was wrong.. .

  My wife and I were in London in November when we were approached several times by young people asking "a penny for the guy?" That night our hotel, The Tower, was lit up by a fireworks display over the Tower Bridge. Is this the "bonfire" night?

  Nothing more or less than the average Baptist, Mormon or Cat lick.

  The big negative is their reluctance to question the roller coaster doctrine. They are told NOT to question. This of course is out of fear of the big DF.

  Because they make a thing about taking apart other peoples beliefs it's kind of chicken s--t really.

  GOOD - They pay their taxes

  NICE- They don't masturbate or have oral sex.

  i am new to the site.

  i started perusing it this weekend and wish i had found it 10 years ago when i was on my way out.

  anyways, long story short, was df'd for you guessed it...fornication or "loose conduct" even though i had been a pioneer with an elder father, grandfather and uncle and no previous issues.

  at the corporate meeting david splane discusses the use and misuse of types/antitypes.. the main qualifier of a type is that an account must be represented in the scriptures as a. type of some future event.. he quoted schroeder who said if an account isnt explained in the scriptures as a type than you.

  shouldnt use the event as a type.. splane summed up his talk by saying if the bible is silent - we must be silent.. but they go right on celebrating the 100 years from 1914 which was determined by improperly.

  going beyond anything written in the bible about nebuchadnezzars tree dream.. the bible specifically refers to the immense tree as representing nebuchadnezzar.. daniel explained it and that should be the end of the matter.. .

  Problem with the GB today is that they were trained on the ignorance and amateur bible theology of the past leaders of the WTS. publishing house.

  And it worked! All it needed was a Rutherford to come along and turn it into a product. It was the serendipity timing of the great Depression and theapocalyptic message of the end of the world. Worked like a charm.

  PS Add the hardships of the great dust bowl in the heartland (my family) and you got a movement.
