Well, well. Isn't this a revealing development of a topic discussion on this particular site, a site that primarily focuses on the shortcomings of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society? So, let's pretend for a moment that the name of the topic was -

"OK, Jehovah's Witnesses Incorporated, time to put up or shut up"

I guess it all depends on whose ox is being gored. "We reject the WTS and their BS. We only believe our own BS, and it really pisses us off when someone points it out to us."

Many of your posts which started out as a defense of your beliefs in a loving God/Father/Jesus ended up as an admission that this is what you choose to believe and how dare I question your right to believe whatever you want to! And I'm the one who sounds angry?. (I prefer 'frustrated', but that's ok, I can handle it.)

Your replies remind me of the bumper sticker I saw recently on a nice car with a 'Fish' emblem nailed on the sheet metal of the trunk, it said "God said it, I believe it, and that settles it!"

For the umpteenth time, I repeat, you have the right to believe whatever you want. Your self image neds to be identified with an "Organized Superstition".

Where "gods" come in is that human beings attempt to comprehend the underlying energies and so called "supernatural" aspects of things. They try to tap into the "source". In doing so humans have created their own faces to this "All" - like Jesus, Allah, Isis, Diana, Shiva, Buddha, etc. These are human creations as a means to understanding these underlying currents. Each of these "gods" represent aspects of the universe and are involved in myth systems which can teach humans something.

Osmosis

This being April 27, after sundown we had our communion meal of spaghetti, garlic bread, green salad and red wine. We are of the only true Pastafarian sect that grates parmesian on our spaghetti. We used to have some friends that mixed the meat sauce into the entire pot of noodles instead of letting each person ladle it on their serving individually. We don't talk to them or their kind anymore. May they burn forever in a big pot of boiling water.

Thank you gold_morning. If you want to say I sound angry go right ahead, that has nothing to do with the discussion. Your the one on the defensive. Your essay doesn't contain any substance or fact or logic or anything but good 'ol religous dogma, which, by God, you have every right to believe. I've heard and read it all before, even spouted it myself. It doesn't make you a bad person, just wishful and gullible like millions of others. Twisting your common sense into a pretzel is your right. If in some way this discussion has made you feel that your cherished beliefs are threatened, I guess I'll have to blame it on 35 years of Watchtower poo poo.

sigh. Well crap! Now everybody is all pissed off at me! But, I guess if I can dish it out I should be able to take it!

OK, I did frame my topic a little confrontationally, but, really, I couldn't begin to count the posts on this site from those who seem to take for granted that everyone here is a born again Christian to some degree or another. By the way, if you read the context of 1 Peter 3:15 you see that Peter was telling the congregation to be "ready to give a reason" for their belief to hostile non-believers (vs 16) and to do so "with meekness and fear (respect)". My basic question was (is) sincere. It has never made sense to me as a JW or since, Why would a loving, kind, all-powerful God allow such evil and misfortune to run rampant in his beautiful creation? Is the story of Job supposed to be the allegory that answers this question? If so, it makes God look weak, petty and frankly, easy to manipulate by his own creation, ie, Satan. It is the lack of a satisfying answer to this question, among others, that has led me to be doubtful of the existence of a God in the sense you all have referred too. Jojochan , I appreciated your thoughts. You come real close to my own feelings.

Honestly, I think a lot of you and your beliefs are like hot-house orchids in North Dakota, you're fine as long as the temp and humidity is in your comfort zone but look out if the door is opened to a frigid wind. A lot of my abrasive posts here were a rather cold, harsh wind. But rather stimulating, eh?

Too bad you haven't learned anything in your life experience to answer the basic, theology 101 question that I have asked. I am beginning to see the meaning behind your avatar.

Ballistic - You have assumed that I believe that religous belief has done nothing good for people. I never said that. I know that religous belief has helped a lot of people in a very positive way, like Jgnat for example. But in all fairness you must acknowledge that religous belief has, and still is today, been directly responsible for the cold blooded murder of thousands, millions.

I simply asked a fundamental question that, so far, has just got a lot of your collective panties in a bunch, just like I knew it would.

Ballistic, I am not the kind of person that would take pleasure in jerking the pacifier of religion out of anybodys mouth. I've seen some pretty edgy discussions on this site, don't tell me I have touched a nerve? Are we all adults here?

XJW4ever - The basic request for this topic was that there be no BS, and you bring up what amounts to a belief in a parallel universe. Naughty, naughty!!

Lovely-lil - Pray for me, sweetheart. You sound like a very nice person. I have no malice toward you but you really must consider getting out of the JW's or face terrible disappointment.

Jgnat-

Please don't misunderstand, if your belief in anything has helped you to escape a life you describe as "squalid" and then evolve to the point that you are now considered "wise, kind,..." etc. more power to you. But you must realize that others have done the same thing and they don't necessarily give all the credit to a faith in a god. Give yourself credit for your positive growth.

I started this topic to generate discussion on a subject that I feel strongly about. Please, if you find it upsetting, by all means ignore it. God knows (no pun intended) there are lots of other threads here.

Besides, you still were avoiding the original question.

Lovelylil - I also appreciate your time and effort. Sounds like you copied it right out of the WT. Why don't you call the elders for a home bobble study, they're free you know.
