I believe there is a bedrock constituency of JWs who can be led by the nose indefinetly. They are anxious and eager to embrace a new explanation for why the last explanation didn't work out. Many of them have, literally, given up everything to take the WT path, family, education, blood for loved ones, etc. It is beyond credibility now, they have thrown their lives into the gaping maw of the WT doctrine and couldn't imagine trying to crawl out of it.
If the 'new light' revealed in '95 about the generation of 1914 did not discourage them, nothing will.

The upcoming DC program, whatever it is, will have a very receptive audience. If the WTS was ever going to do anything audacious, now is the time. They will be allowed to get away with anything they say. WHY?
Think about this.
Today we have more 'media' (internet, television, motion pictures, radio, etc.) than ever before in the history of mankind. 90% of this media is supported through commercial means. They must draw an audience. What draws an audience? FEAR of whats happenng in our shrinking world. IRAQ, IRAN, NORTH KOREA, NUCLEAR THREAT, TERRORISM, ENERGY, GLOBAL WARMING, BIRD FLU, EARTHQUAKES, TSUNAMIS... you can add to the list yourself because you have been exposed to this media too. But JWs have a pacifier to comfort them. They can jump in the bed and pull the Watchtower blanket over their head and suck on their promises and just like a pacifier they will be soothed for a time, but they will receive no sustenance from it.
A positive message about todays world can never be embraced by either the WTS or the popular media. Only an open minded person with some knowledge of human history can read between the lines and realize that mankind has never been in a better place.

What are your reasons for not joining another religion?
by MARTINLEYSHON ini am going to start this debate of by saying that those of us who were raised in the so called truth, and i being one of them, can only come to terms with our past by accepting that our parents infected our minds like a virus infects a computer.
we wouldn't categorise children according to their parents' political stance, since they are too young to make up their minds about such matters.
but they (jw) segregate them from the world.

Wonderful, insightful comments on this thread. "Socially accepted insanity" ColdRedRain, was that original? I will be adding that to my repertoire (sic).
james_woods- You put it well also. Like never being able to eat sausage after watching it being made. Or, like my father, who, in the late 30's and early 40's would occasionally pick up work in the Southern Calif. film industry as a carpenter and laborer. He saw a lot of movies being made and for ever after he was never a big movie fan, like the experience spoiled the illusion for him.

No more organized superstition for me. It's a constant effort to keep free floating, ingrained superstition in perspective.

A wife chased by other men at work
by greendawn ina woman i know was telling me recently that because she is pretty and has a nice body most men at work try to flirt and cajole her with the ultimate aim of having sex with her, but because she is a married woman she resists their advances.
she stresses how loyal she is to her husband.
so is she commenable or should she be liberal and have sex with other men to be hedonistic and enjoy life?

Greeny,
Seems like a rather intimate conversation. Perchance you are a tempted co-worker?
No matter. In answer to your query I would say that her being unattainable only stokes their fire. I can imagine she, like most attractive women, enjoys the lustful attention and subtly encourages it. (Oh dear, is this sweater to small for me?)
When she gets home from work she probably has some pent up sexual tension and her husband is the beneficiary. Which is as it should be.

My mother and father met through the JW org. in 1942. Their parents were all JW. I was born in 1945 and my first convention was at Cedar Point Ohio, I was like 2 months old. That's probably when the first seeds of doubt began to sprout in my little head. It is truly amazing that I escaped at all.

Keiths' misfortune proves my point...
by Gregor in.
just heard that keith richards fall out of a palm tree a few days ago was pretty serious after all and he had to have brain surgery.
if there is a god why didn't he put a big pillow under him when he fell?

Keith is married to a rather buxom blonde about 27. I don't think he trolls much anymore. Doesn't true love bring a tear to your eye? Maybe I'm just sentimental. I'll bet he is starting to wish he had taken better care of himself.
