and after asking her all this you could ask "Do you fool around?"

A woman that strongly supports the dubs
by greendawn ini was talking with a woman today who admires the jws, though not one of them, and she was telling me things like they are the only people with strong principles and families and the only ones that really try to apply god's laws in their lives and uphold biblical truth.
also that there are many diseased individuals among the blood donors and most donated blood is contaminated so the dubs are doing well to avoid transfusions.
i was going to say to her i am surprised that you did not join them.

Seriously, that would have been a natural question to ask in an inoffensive way. "Why haven't you become a member? You know they are quite aggressive in their proslytizing"
Whatever her answer, it would be interesting. I have come across a lot of people who seem to have a personal coda not to criticize any religeon or lifestyle. Not a bad thing I suppose. I wouldn't know, since I was raised as a JW and it was drilled into me to be critical of everything and everybody.

My buddy, Wayne, and I (both 12 yrs old) found the account of Aholah and Aholibah in Ezekiel Chap.23. (We had King James Bibles) We sat there pointing out various passages to each other and tried to stifle our giggles. This led to us starting a list of all the words for prostitute we could find. I'm sure any onlookers were impressed with our interest in the scriptures.
I also recall being entertained on a warm Sunday afternoon during a boring talk. A brother a couple of rows in front of me. His head would s l o w l y sink to his chest and then jerk back up as he fought a very severe case of the sleepies. This went on for a long time. Then I look over and saw my Mom shaking and dabbing back tears of laughter. She'd been watching him too!

Are you irritated by popular misconception?
by TD inmaybe this is a sign of advancing age and i shouldn't let it irritate me.... (but it does anyway..) .
when popular misconception gets repeated long and often enough by the ignorant, it eventually becomes accepted truth.
for example, the great war of 1914 - 1918 was not the first "world war" by any yardstick you might wish to compare various armed conflicts by.

Grumpy Old Curmudeons (GOCs) have a right to live too! Don't ever be ashamed of being a GOC.
But, yes. You may be a GOC. We all have our pet peeves. The reference to WWI has simply become a shorthand way of refering to that hellacious war. Interesting, it was not called that until WWII put it into that context. Before that, of course, it was called the "Great War". Today, many people refer to the world wide acts of terror by fundamentalist Islam as WWIII. I guess only the context of time will tell if it is true.
I too, am somewhat of a GOC, when I see the degradation of the language skills (written and spoken) of young people today who are supposed to be educated. It has been shown that these skills are also how we "think" and reason. Kind of, like, you know, scary.

Re: What do you do for a living?
by MARTINLEYSHON inas many of you are aware being brought up in the organisation, there was a general directive from the wt that secular education was good, but not encouraged as far as university and further education was concerned.
many witnesses left school in the 70s with no formal qualifications.
my question therefore is 2 fold.. 1. what would you have liked to become as far as your career is concerned?.

1. A Doctor
2. Buying illegal drugs wholesale then reselling them at a huge mark up and acting in pornographic films. It keeps beans on the table.

Would you have stayed if essential changes were made?
by greendawn inwhen you began doubting the wts did you decide that there was no remedy and you had leave them, or did you say if they change on such and such points i will stay on?
what were those points that if changed you would approve of the jws and stay in?
for me it was not an issue because i wanted to see many changes and they wouldn't carry them out.

Never. They can't go back and undo the harm they did to so many people in so many ways. Why should they be able to say "Never Mind" and start fresh? What do they have to offer of any worth? Nothing.

Your good, your very good.

A Chance to Wreck The Society.....
by metatron inif it's true that the society is starting a special campaign against "false religion", we may have them at our mercy!!!!!!!!!.
think about it: if they are stupid enough to print some cheap tract that shows churches and 'stars of david' as 'false religion', we may.
be able to cause enormous trouble by sending these to all public agencies dealing with intolerance and prejudice.. more than that, by posing as witnesses, these tracts may be sent to various people and groups with accompanying letters.

I thought that "Babylon the Great Has Fallen, Gods Kingdom Rules" (Dark red, early 60s?) was the definitive predigested food (like vomit) from the F&DS on the book of Revelation (AKA, "Johns LSD trip, or How I learned to stop worrying and love the Pipe")? That was an inch and a half thick and small print to boot. We studied it forever. As I recall, it was printed without questions at the bottom of the page, they were in a separate booklet. Seriously, how many more interpretations have there been since I bailed out in '81?

What percentage(estimate) of internet using JWs curiously read this forum?
by evergreen ingo on have a blast.
the jw discussion forum is on the same web page (google among others) as the societies official site.
i once remember an elder telling me about some ex witness who wrote some bad stuff on the internet.

I would say this site and others like it were very successful if they get even 10% of the JW hits that nekkid pitcher sites get from them.
"Quit touching the Unclean Thing" (yeah, but I washed it!)
