B-12 shot for the WT -"Deliverance" DC & Mideast flare up timing
by Gregor inonce again, world events come along and give the wt a free booster shot.
nothing better than coming home from the dc, opening the paper and seeing headlines like "mideast in flames" "is nuclear confrontation far off?
" "north korea tests nuke capable missiles" etc etc.

Once again, world events come along and give the WT a free booster shot. Nothing better than coming home from the DC, opening the paper and seeing headlines like "Mideast in Flames" "Is nuclear confrontation far off?" "North Korea tests Nuke capable Missiles" etc etc. If only there could be another huge earthquake right now it would be perfect. I remember a JW who was about 75% out of the org. when the Gulf war started. They got their ass back in the KH so fast it was comical.
"Well, Martha, Armageddon could start any moment now."
Of course, when it all blows over there will be something else.

Anybody here been an airline flight attendant (or known someone who has)?
by Xander inwife has an interesting opportunity to do this, but...well, it's a risk.
she passed the interviews and was invited to the 4-week training.
thing is, they say that 75% of those who are accepted into training for it wash out.

My uncle was a purser (like the head steward) with Pan American from 1948 to 1960. Flew mostly the Pacific routes in double deck Boeing Stratocruisers. Later was in the first jet service 707s to Europe. Pure luxury in those days. Finest wines and food. sleeping births. John Wayne, Clark Gable, Burt Lancaster and many more celebrities were on his flights. Japan, Australia, Fiji, Hong Kong, Singapore. He went through two marriages in this time and was still a Witness. His father, my G.father, told him he needed to get out of that work because the time was getting short and he needed to settle down. He married a beautiful Japanese woman he met at a KH in Japan. Brought her back to his California home and quit PanAm. He is now 86 and on his fourth wife and lives in Hawaii. Still a devout JW.

SPITITISM AND OCCULT IN WT
by badboy inits seems that ctr was involved in occult and spiritistic practices.
-
Gregor
Similar to reading tea leaves, spititism interprets the meaning of those gobs on the sidewalk.
(sorry, some typos I just can't resist.)

Where will you go when you die?
by Bstndance inthis is sort of fluff.
one night while i was bored on the internet, i stumbled across some guy's page that was totally devoted to his study of the afterlife.
in it he stated that when people die they go to the afterlife that they believe in.

I won't go anywhere, someone will have to take me.

616 and NOT 666 turns out to be the "number of the beast" ???
by Kudra inhas this been covered here?
seems to be a cool new development.
what will this mean to jws?
-
Gregor
What they are confusing is the 'mark' of the beast on the forehead "666" and the beasts area code, which is 616, the Grand Rapids, Michigan area.

ZIDANE EXPLAINS HEADBUTT
by tijkmo inzidane explains world cup head-butt
zinedine zidane has claimed repeated insults about his mother and sister spurred him to head-butt an italian in sunday's world cup final.
the french captain declared "i'm a man first" to explain his reaction but refused to repeat the "personal" remarks.

Gregor
The headbutt was the only thing about the world cup that I found interesting.

Bette Midler in "Beaches" - "OK, enough about me. Let's talk about you. What do you think of me?"
From "Jarhead" Marine in showers to another marine - "Hey that looks just like a penis, only smaller"
"The Grapes of Wrath" was full of wonderful lines. Time to watch it again.

Whats the tallest tale you've spun and someone's believed it?
by misspeaches ini was just remembering how one day i told my good friend that bed mattresses are made out of cigarette butts.
well i must have been very convincing because about a week later i happened to over hear her telling someone else about this 'fact'.
i had to quickly stop her and tell her that i had only been joking!.

You mean aside from telling a few bible studies that Armageddon was going to start in '75?

Reading the Bible Made Me Leave "The Truth" & Christianity
by Seeker4 ini was looking up a couple of verses the other day in my nwt reference bible the one with larger print, footnotes, cross references, etc.
in my day i was quite a diligent student - the bible is filled with my notes and comments, and i'd already worn out another one earlier.
one of the things that i found surprising as i was reading my notes, was how often they were pointing out inconsistencies, contradictions and obvious lies in the biblical text.

That's a great observation, Seeker. It shows that this method of keeping your audience/followers engaged was employed by the ancients long before the WTS got in the 'biz'.
Reminds me of when our kids were small and would get restless on a long auto trip. "We're nearly there, just a few more minutes" I'd say, (even though we still had a hundred miles to go) and they would be satisfied and settle down for awhile until it was time for me to say it again. Of course, if they had been able to read road signs and maps they could have called my bluff, but I was taking advantage of my position of authority so I could manipulate their behavior.
