  what do you think of ray(mond) franz?

  i have seen here some people critisise him as not being a really heartfelt opponent of the wts, but my view is that he was quite honest about his expressed motives against the cult.

  with his revelations he gave a lot of momentum to the ex jw movement (the apostate organisation according to the jws) and offered valuable assistance to those seeking to shake off the ideological and social dependance on the oppressive cult.

  Some have felt that Rays split with the WTS was based on personal and political frictions within the GB that escalated into his purge. They don't believe his departure was an epiphany that brought him to believe it was all a crock (the very title of his book implies the latter) After all, he was DF'd, he did not DA. He was and is only human and I choose to give him the benefit of the doubt.

  I agree with the comments above that point out the huge, positive impact Ray and his writings have had on so many escapees of the cult.

  if god does the choosing, who has the right to choose who's anointed and who is not?

  the roman army officer as far as the jews were concerned was an unlikely choice, but god anointed him and some of his family members.

  I didn't mean to imply by my previous post that I believe there are "genuine" anointed as opposed to bogus anointed. Just recalling the frame of mind when being in the cult. I put the entire subject in the category of Tooth Fairy, UFO believers, ghost photographers and those who believe god answers their prayers. It's all very precious and sweet! You cuties!

  When a baptized JW in good standing started partaking of the bread and wine it was always considered a no-no to question whether they were "genuine" or not. But there were several cases that definitely raised eyebrows.

  Counting/requesting time how is that based on the Bible?

  after reading auld soul's thread on babtism and the request for over year for any one to justify the wbts' requirements based on scripture,...(with no answer), i started to wonder what are the requests for numbers from the wbts based on.. did christ request a certain amount of time every month for preaching to qualify for what he promised?

  did he count those attending his sermons to justify what he was preaching?

  what about the so called "pioneer" program?

  Sorry, my telling of this is somewhat out of sequence. I wrote the letter a short time (a few weeks)after the CO's visit. The letter was primarily my notification that I was resigning as an elder. I heard that this CO either stepped down or was removed some time after all this. He dropped the remarks based on my objection which was supported by the other elders. No, I never received a direct response from Brooklyn but the presiding elder did get a brief letter acknowledging my resignation.

  Remember the parable of the Widows Mite? The point was that the value of each ones sacrifice was based on the individuals circumstance. Reporting time and setting arbitrary goals of 10 hrs. a month always seemed out of sync with this common sense principle. I knew of sisters with unbelieving mates for whom 2 or 3 hours a month was a huge effort. We had an elders meeting with the CO and he told us that in that Sundays concluding remarks he was going to tell the congregation that if they were irregular pubs. for 6 mos. they really were NOT Jehovahs Witnesses. I objected strongly to this and wrote a letter to Brooklyn. He dropped that statement from out meeting and I had given a heads up to the area congs he visited after us. He never brought it up again to my knowledge.

  i think that the second half-hour has a segment that i watched before.

  in the segment a prostitute is questioned by a police officer.

  the weather kept us indoors today.

  baltimore got about 6 inches of snow today, so it was a good day to stay indoors.

  the turner classic movie channel showed 2 fantastic 4 star movies...gone with the wind, and casablanca.
