(Eh. I know this is an empty, uncreative post from me. But, who do I think I'm kidding by posting a PoliticallyNeutered Disclaimer on a website that has a locked section for "campaign strategy?" I guess that I was deceiving myself; but, thanks for all of the help which I've received here. I'm taking a break for now. The black helicopters are encroaching! (just kidding. :P) How does any of this relate to favorite avatars? My favorite avatar was mine. MINE! :P Otherwise, I would have used another one, now wouldn't I?! (Again, just joking.) Anyway, I'm taking it down. That's right! No more ugly face glaring askance at you! Blame it on the black helicopters! (Joking again on last sentence. In hurray to get to work.) Anyway, my avatar and I are taking a break.)

Ready for 2005 to be OVER! 2006 resolutions...

this year has sucked like a hoover for me.

i'm so ready for it to be over...2006 has to be better.

here's my resolutions so far.... get in better shape (something other than round).. spend more time with my kids.. grow the business i'm a partner in.. purchase some property in/near asheville, nc.. how about you?

Positive reinforcement works. You're doing better than most in writing down your goals and then regularly measuring your success. Every step you take in the direction you want to go is positive, even if it isn't quick or the most direct route.

Do you have ideas for positive reinforcement? Like posters with charts of progress and such? I'm open to listening to some suggestions if you like.

Right now, the "negative punishment" which I use is mostly to keep my adherence to schedule allocation "between the lines." I realize that reinforcement, and particularly positve reiforcement, is a very different concept. But, I don't think that I've often formally systematized much external, positive reinforcement.

Again, I would like to hear your suggestions, if you like.

Disclaimer: I don't claim to be an expert. The stuff in this email could be false. If you use it, use it at your own risk. Also, since about 7/05, I've earnestly tried to keep my large-scale internet presence politically/religiously neutral. Stepping on big toes with such new and powerful technology seems highly incautious in my case.

Progress report and slight adjustment:

On point 3, I mentioned the phrase "unless my plans change." My plans have changed slightly. I now only have 30 minutes per week allocated to trying to build a simple, unpowered exoskeleton for myself to support my back. I hope that I don't injure it in the interim. Also, Instead of spending "much" time only on a simple game-programming business, I've divided that time a bit. I intend to spend some of it on building some expertise in the field of building simple computer games for the Java VM; but, on my current schedule, it may take me almost 4 years to reach expert status in a related field. I've scheduled an equal amount of time on human networking and tuning skills for ethical persuasion. Perhaps that will help me to find a better job in a shorter time.

With regard to point 2, I've scheduled yet another equal amount of time for various meditation and mental-improvement exercises. I apologize to the powers that be for mentioning these specifically at all in the past. I didn't realize how "political" that could be. What I mentioned was highly and publicly available, guys! On google! First hit status! Give me a break (respite)! :P

I just finished reading my copy of this book.

As I mentioned in the second link, my primary personal standard for distinguishing between manipulation and ethical persuasion is "informed consent." Dave Lakhani seems to point more toward intent. Intent is important; but, it is not enough for me.

With that one clarification: I truly like the book. I read some of it slowly to digest its implications. I think that it has helped me to see some very valuable lessons for my life. I feel that I should have read it many years ago, if it had been available. Someone once indicated that the best books are those which help you to systematize and draw conclusions about knowledge which you already have. I think that this is such a book.

With informed consent, and good intentions, I think this book is fairly good stuff. :)

Reporting on progress of resolution:

I was doing well, as shown by my public confession link above.

Then, last night, I was asked to work an extra day at work. I must depart from the schedule for now, I guess; but, I hope that this overtime thing doesn't become a habit. If I can't find time to build a simple, unpowered exoskeleton to replace or enhance my lack of a good internal skeleton, it may be difficult for me to make my life worth living if I'm asked to stand up at all. Pretzel-boy. :(

Thank you! I tried hard on that one. I thought about something similar for parts of the last couple of days before I changed it enough to be sure enough that it wasn't very political. :)

I cannot take much credit for the central concept, though. Googling "informed consent" will probably reveal this fact.
