I used to know a lot of witnesses that did it. They are perfect for the job

USA- Census - Why not hire the JW's to do it?
by POs Son inthere is talk on some of the national news outlets about the cost of the united states census.
for our foreign friends, we conduct a full head count of residents every 10 years to facilitate the division of congressional seats.
the budget has allocated some $11 billion for this task, to include sending counters door-to-door asking personal questions about people's habits in addition to counting the number of people.

This is my mom's favorite line. The only way to get them to understand you don't believe it is the truth is to tell them you are apostate. Even if you DA they may try to hold out hope but when you use the A word that is like a clove of garlic to the movie vampire..
I'm just not ready to be labeled by them and I am not going to label myself.

Witnesses who were Shunned by Worldly family for BEING Witnesses! ME!
by Witness 007 inyes when you become a witness, your family tree looks like it was hit by hurricane katrina!
{just like when you leave...ironic} my father said if i become a witness he will never see me again...and he didn't....but like most idiot witnesses this is held up like a badge of honour!...i was on the platform at ass-emblies like many others who lost....parents, boyfirends, husbands, children, whole families.
we thought we were blessed by jah to have lots of "brothers and sisters...but our real family knew we were part of an "apocalipse cult.

Some help please- advice
by leftbelow ini have a problem.
i knew this would come up but what has me questioning myself is where some of my resistance is coming from.. my wife and i have a baby on the way in nov. (a little girl) anyway my mom immediately started applying pressure to me to go back to meeting and of course to attend the convention.
that is not the surprise.

yknot
I did think of going with the idea of then discussing how I honestly felt about the program. But my mom has already ask my sister once if she thinks I am an apostate. So she would shut me down before I could get into any real meaningful discussion. Otherwise I would go in the hopes I could help my mom see the truth about these people.
So far it seems all the votes are for me.....yeahhhh

Some very good advice from you all.
And one of the reason my wife and her mother think I should go this last time is I have told them (my wife and her mother) in no uncertain terms that my baby girl will not be attending any meetings. They believe (and are probably right) that will effectively end my relationship with most of my family but especially my mom.
I really appreciate everyone responding Maybe I am not such a jerk after all....lol hey Maybe I am right

Would you tell the in-laws?
by homeschool inlong story short: i threw a bday party for my newly faded hubby a few weeks ago.
well, one of the guests ran into hubby's jw father & said "yeah, it was great to hang out with ___________ @ his birthday party the other day!
" (to which the jw father later told us he acted totally cool and went along with it but was like .

I have to say I would give my right arm to have family that would overlook a B-day party in anyway shape or form.

Living your life
by joelingeorgia inin the end, the best thing to do is to live your own life.. set specific goals for what you want to accomplish.. hang out with people who affirm you and your goals..

Last year I set several goals accomplished some and moved some to this year.
1. Miss the memorial (I ended up letting my sister talk me in to going)
2. Miss the convention (last year was my first time missing the entire thing it was great)
3. Give blood (didn't get to this yet but soon real soon)
4. Vote (Nov. 2008 voted for the first time)
5. Go to a few different chruches (went to 3)
I have more but need to get back to work

Thank you guys for that. I thought I was maybe being unreasonable in standing my ground.
And just to clarify I am glad people chose to give more then a yes or no answer. I mostly put that in because sometimes thats all I can come up with to a question and I wanted to let people know that if all they wanted to say was a yes or no that was fine also.
My wife is giving in. She got a hotel and I don't want her to drive up there alone (in her condition) so I may have to drive her but I am going to stand my ground. I guess I will hang out in the hotel. Or maybe I will spend all day on JWD..lol

I have a problem. I knew this would come up but what has me questioning myself is where some of my resistance is coming from.
My wife and I have a baby on the way in Nov. (a little girl) anyway my mom immediately started applying pressure to me to go back to meeting and of course to attend the convention. That is not the surprise. What is bothering me is both my wife and her mother (not a witness) feel I should just go to the convention to appease my mom to "keep the peace".
So I am working today and tomorrow (so I will be monitoring this thread) and the question I would like your opinion on is this
Should I go Sat. to the convention just to keep my mom happy and get her off my back?
Feel free to just give a yes or no answer And for those of you who would like to, say more if you would like, but I would really like to know if I am beings unreasonable in my refusal to attend.
Thanks
