  i'm new to this site, although i am umm wow, what am i?

  i'm not formally df'd anymore, but i'm inactive, i guess but for about 15yrs.

  i met online on a local site another former jw and she told me about this site.

  well, i been signed to a modeling agency since april of 05. besides your boring "stand here and look pretty" kind of jobs i still have wasn't finding any real work.

  but saturday i went to a go-see for some local designer who was looking for models to be in her next runway show.

  of course, i have absolutely no expierence in doing runway and i swear i have two left feet

  when you meet a jw at your door, what is your response?

  do you invite them in and try and convert them?

  Hello KW13.

  I'm waiting to see what happens at the moment. My wife has encouraged them, although purely because as a medical professional she's so baffled by the blood thing. They still can't answer it adequately by the way. In the meantime a different bunch caught me at a wrong time the other day and I told them to put me down as a "never call again". I'm keen to see if the first lot will still call to see my wife in a "good cop bad cop" scenario like we've set up.

  In the past I've tried talking to them without telling them about my past. They've quickly given up on me though. I feel sorry for them being in the cult but also quite angry at what they represent.

  Interestingly I lived in central London for ages and was never visited. Since I moved to Cornwall they're here about once every 6 weeks.

  A friend of mine who lives up the road on a small farm says he's never been visited by JW's, but then again he has three American Bulldogs roaming loose at all times and you can only get him to let you in by phoning him. Oh well maybe he'll have a good excuse on judgement day LOL.

  something that always bothered me when i was in the org, did anyone else feel the same?.

  right, they say its bad for jw`s to go to uni/college?

  (i know they changed the tack for a while, but thats essentialy the `law` now).

  Jambon it is odd yes. They should be encouraging education and even maybe helping with scholarships. Surely it doesnt make sense to have a heirarchy which are all ex pioneer window cleaners?

  Two reasons I can think of. Firstly they worry that kids in higher education are going to be led astray. Secondly they want people plugging their magazines NOW.

  P.S Oh and of course they anticipate an imminent global holocaust. Forgot about that.

  the way the jw religion markets itself often intrigues me.

  needless to say one of the most powerful marketing tools, the internet, is giving more hindrance than help to the wts.. i'm suprised that the organisation still sticks with the basic door to door sales approach, which more often than not irritates people, and that they push their message primarily with rather crude magazines.

  i'm sure the magazines have to be basic and cheap to maintain profit margins, but in a more sophisticated media dominated world do they really think that cheesy drawings of people cuddling tigers in front of waterfalls is a good sell?

  My point is that the Society seems disinclined to constantly look at and reinforce its brand, and that the brand image is stale. This like many businesses will confirm could help put it "out of business".

  I'm looking at it from a British perspective though. Is the WTS more imaginative in say the US? Is there a JW cable channel, do they hand out DVDs on the door, do they mass mail drop etc? I've only found out through this forum that they do Telesales.

  anyone hear of or know of any jw's or exjw's who've won a large lottery prize?............i know of one jw who won close to half a million $us dollars and now he's like "jehovah who?...whos jehovah?

  zach (my 7 year old) and i were playing with his dinosaurs last night.

  he has a 2 foot long rubber t-rex with huge teeth and claws.

  i turned it to him, opened the mouth wide, and said "roar!".

  LOL. Stevie Irwin I suppose you mean? Saying "you're alright mate" to a T.Rex.

  Wasn't there an odd group of creationists around once who though that Dinosaurs were on another ark? Supposedly there was a big on-board scrap and the thing sank?

  i just picked up "the american religion" by harold bloom.

  he reviews and critiques american born religions and has a chapter on jw's.. here's some quotes i loved:.

  poor jwfacts got sprung when the jw trawlers were able to join the dots.. no, that's wrong - they knew it was him but it took something else for them to be able to prove it.. i am not game to post a bio about myself.

  my jw siblings are very litigious.

  one even sued another jw for libel.
