It certainly would not work with those of us that are quietly fading. As soon as you spoke about this imfo. to an elder he would probably ask how you feel about the org. now. If we then tell him it leaves us wide open to be dissfellowshipped. Not good if you still have family in the org.

Deleting private records
by teel ini just had a weird thought.
in my country there's a law (i think some similar exists in most countries) that any organization, society, entity can only keep record of private nature about a person / entity if he/she/it gives its explicit consent to do so, and that consent can be revoked at any time by the person.
so whenever i participate in a product related raffle for example, there is always a legalese text asking whether i give my consent that the data given by me to be stored by the company and used for further promotional offers - agreeing is not necessary for the participation in the raffle.

"a good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Angie you are so right. There is more money given today to charities than ever before. Not only that there are millions of people who give their time and effort totally free. Because of this pravtically any modern day problem in every day has help in the form of a charity.
The answer you get from a JW is people give for selfish reasons or because they feel guilty. With the witnesses it only needs one bad thing to happen to someone on earth and that means everything is bad. That as you say is how they have been conditioned. Thank God we are out of that now.

No need for science, just read the Watchtower
by jabberwock ini often hear scientists and others complain that some religious people are satisfied with "god did it" as an explanation for everything and are uninterested in what science has to say.. i never felt this way as a witness; i always felt that witnesses were very interested in scientific discoveries.. apparently, i was wrong.. r.stuart marshall is a witness with a doctorate from stanford whose life story appeared in the wt 08 12/01.
consider this telling anecdote from that article:.
the university of california wanted funds to compete with other states to win a six-billion-dollar federal project.

My father in law was a well respected elder and would often talk about what he had read in the Awake. But the moment you tried to speak about something the Awake had not covered he could not think of anything to say. The man in this case read only the Awake and thought this would answer every question that he might be asked

I actually feel pretty good after talking to witnesses. If they come across anyone who knows a lot about the org.( as many on this site do) then they haven't a hope. I find most of them just move on to another point when they see they are losing the arguement. Some old witness friends of mine said they would be in touch by e-mail to talk about why I left the org. Needless to say I haven't heard a word from them.

by booby ini too have fond memories of fred franz.
i served in brooklyn bethel from 1978 to 1987. brother franz would go to the 119 columbia heights sauna every wednesday night.
he had a small following of brothers, including me, who would also go on wednesday nights to the sauna just to pick his brain.

Sorry booby for not realizing it was a cut and paste job. I should have known anyone on this site would never be that stupid. You are so right what you say about Ray, I haven't yet heard anybody give proof that anything he said was a lie.
Thanks too to Trevor for the youtube video. Jws will try anything to try and make a case for a knowledgeable governing body. Of course they always fail miserably.

How much will Watchtower publish online?
by jonathanconway ini've noticed that they have a small selection of articles online.. however the majority of their stuff is only accessible through either the watchtower cdrom or dead trees.. has anyone yet asked them about putting their entire library online?.
if their aim is to "spead the good news", then what possible reason could there be for not making the content publicly accessible?.
since they already have it in electronic form (i believe the content is already in html format on the cd), the cost of doing this would be minimal, and it would probably make their website rank better in google.. of course, the flip-side is that this would allow others to link to their content and discuss it openly and, anonymously, which might expose them to much more criticism than they've ever experienced before.. but i'm wondering what their excuse would be if someone asked them "why not"?.

heathen, as in any business you provide what is necessary. In much of the world there simply is no need to use paper printing. The literature could still be produced where necessary but you would need a lot less of it especially ongoing as more and more people get hooked up to the net. It doesn't take a genius to work out without face to face discussions the money is going to dry up.

Booby, you talk about Ray Franz as being an apostate but can you list some of the imortant things that he got wrong in his book Crisis of conscience.
Fred like Rutherford before him made a complete ass of himself. Much of what he wrote has now gone on the scrapheap. He was the main instigater of the 1975 fiasco that caused so many brothers to give up everything for an imaginery date.

To understand the Bible, must we "Read between the lines?"
by garyneal inthis post goes out to any active jehovah's witnesses who are either actively engaged in or simply lurking the topics on this web site.
my wife is a jehovah's witness who is currently an unbaptized publisher hoping (as she stated as her goal) to become baptized.
needless to say, i am not and we go to different churches (hers is the kingdom hall and mine is a small community church).. anyway, this past sunday (september 7, 2009) one of the brothers gave a talk about how some people pick a church based on the fact that it seems to "feel good to them" rather than base it on whether or not they truly teach the bible.

It has been stated by the Watchtower that no one can arrive at bible truth without the help of the org. That is exactly another way of saying you have to read between the lines. Nobody would ever arrive at the societies conclusions without someone adding stuff that is simply not in the bible.

Just found this- refusing blood for minors

Hopefully more and more countries will intervene in life or death matters for miners. After all if a parent was in danger of shooting their offspring with a gun the authorities would immediately intervene once they know. There is no difference in that and refusing a life saving transfusion.

Possably one reason why most of their imfo. is not online is beacause it will allow more and more people to view the internet. The internet is their big enemy. We've already seen the younger internet generation leaving, so they don't want the older ones doing it to. Remember most of their income comes from older ones who have more disposable income.
