To me the very first verse in Revelation is a joke. It says to show his slaves WHAT MUST SHORTLY TAKE PLACE. JWs will say that 1000 years are but a day to God but come on this was given to a mortal man who was soon to die. If this was said to you would you think that's great, it will start to take place in the next 2000 years or so. I think not. The borg have put their own spin on it just like others have done in the past. Some of it is just credible but most of it is the product of an senile old man.

Evidence In Favor Of Bloodless Surgery Mounts

I don't think anyone would disagree with the fact that it is better not to use someone elses blood if possable, but as some other posters have said, there are times that it has to be used or the person would certainly die. The borg I am sure will put there own spin on this, but the fact remains that they would still let someone die rather than breaking their own man made rules regarding blood.

Will Michael Jacksons Mom be DF'd ???
by tresdecu injackson family to host first christmasmichael jackson's family is to hold christmas celebrations for the first time this year (09) - putting their own religious beliefs aside for the superstar's three children.. the jacksons were all brought up as jehovah's witnesses, a christian-based religion which does not recognise birthdays or christmas.
but the thriller hitmaker deviated from his family's belief system and always enjoyed the holiday season with prince michael, 12, paris, 11, and seven-year-old prince michael ii.
and family matriarch katherine jackson, who has full custody of the kids, is determined to put their former traditions aside in december (09) to keep the youngsters' lives as normal as possible.

It would be a great story for the papers, and wouldn't we enjoy showing it to our witness family members.
IF she was disfellowshipped it would actually be doing her and the kids a favour. They would then hopefully be brought up normally like other kids.

real fake friends
by diamondiiz ini wondered how did your "best" jw friends react to when you told them you're leaving wts?.
after i found out all i needed to know i called up my old friend who i thought was a good friend but i knew he was a die hard dub and i told him to write down a book and read it.
i was refering to russell's thy kingdom come.

I had a really good friend who wrote to me asking why I no longer associate. It was a very heartfelt letter. I replied telling her exactly why I left and said I hope we can remain friends. Needless to say I never heard from her again. It helped me realize that most witness friendships are totally dependant on never disagreeing with the org. Same with any love shown to you it is a totally conditional love.

Don't want to celebrate holidays even with my daughter...
by cognac ini feel like its so much work, stressful, commercialized and since i never formed the habit of it i hate the idea of celebrating them.
i wouldn't mind buying presents for my daughter on christmas and maybe doing a treasure hunt for halloween (i don't want her taking candy from even my neighbors) and things like that so she doesn't feel left out or like she's missing something.
just something easy and informal...

In England the only thing we make much of are birthdays and Xmas. I too feel what is the point. Most people in the developed world tend to have most things they want within reason so you end up giving something they already have or not suitable. I know that it is the thought that counts but surely it is better to give a present any time and when you know what the person wants.

To be honest I think the WT policiy on ANYcontroversal subject is to simply keep quiet about it and hopefully it will go away. The child abuse policy of the Watchtower seems now to have been improved mainly because of pressure from sites like silentlambs. I recently emailed Bill Bowen and got no reply so maybe he is letting it rest now. Things are still not perfect but then that will never happen with anything to do with child abuse.

Admiring evolution
by GapingMouth inas a born-in, i was taught to reject evolution right off.
that coupled with not being taught it accurately at school (and for only about an hour) it is only now after breaking free of jws that i have been learning about it.
dawkins has instilled in me an admiration and appreciation for evolution and its elegance.

Yes definitely. In Britain there is a new series on TV from the world famous David Attenborough called Challenges of life. The series of ten one hour programmes is about creatures surviving and adapting in their envioronments. We had the first one last monday. I would thoroughly recommend it.
The camera work is stunning and the programme really shows how all creatures have the same goal namely to adapt when necessary and to pass on their genes to the next generation

Swedish government declines to give JW financial support
by InquiryMan inquite recently, watchtower in sweden applied for governmental financial support, as they are entitled to as a registered religious community.
however, the government declined to accept the application, stating that the reason was that the jws do not adhere to democratic values and standards and do not support mainstream values.. the witnesses are upset, because they feel discriminated against.
they state that the financial issue is not the real issue, but to be treated in a similar way as other religious communities.. they have appealed the decision and plan to send a report explaining the witnesses views in more detail.. the branch office chose the religious, pentecostal (assembly of god) newspaper "dagen" to make an interview.. here is the photo report of the article.. .

I'm with Yesidid. You simply can't have it both ways. They would be horrified if after reading a WT article they were seen as the same as any other religion. And yet once money is involved they say they are the same. It reminds me of the UN scandal On one hand they say how terrible the UN is, then they do all they can to keep in with them. Hypocrites

Creation - struggling
by wantstoleave ini am in the process of leaving, and those of you who have followed me will know i spoke to my family briefly the other day about my doubts, but not since.
my dad has offered the occasional prayer for various things in the past week, as well as say he wants to study with my preschoolers.
he has also added in the extra tidbits to do with jehovah being the only true god etc.

Definately. In fact that was how the witnesses first got me interested by saying where do all those stars come from. It really is the big question, where did God come from. But if you think about it, other questions you could ask would be when did time begin or if you kept going straight up into space where does it end? I believe our minds simply can't comprehend those questions at the moment. Maybe in time they will be answered.

Trying To Make JW's Seem "Normal", One Cult Member At a Time
by AllTimeJeff init hasn't been till the last couple of months that i have even given a passing thought to jw apologists.
as welcome as they are to post their opinions, i am struck by something that i recognize in myself and others as i reflect on my jw past.. basically, there comes a certain point, where if you are going to stay a jw and you are of a bit more "liberal" mindset, that you will try to change the focus a bit.. i recall this happened to me.
as a ms, i was very gung ho for most jw dogma and ways of dealing with people.

I belong to Friends United and joined the JW group. One elder is leaving it for fear of being spiritually damaged. I aked him why he could not defend his faith. He never answered. Witnesses and particularly the society are scared to death of exwitnesses because they know what really goes on behind the scenes not to mention the societies countless mistakes and double standards. I wish more witnesses would try to defend themselves but most of them simply run like scared rabbits.
