How Many Humanists in your country?

many on this forum already know that i'm a member of the humanist society scotland.. at our annual conference last month, i was happy to collect a bumper sticker that had been produced for a special capaign earlier this year to raise awareness of humanism issues within scotland.

our population is very small - just over 5 million people, so the simple message was bound to create quite a stir:.

two million scots are good without god.

I am from England and I and my parents are humanists.

My father died in 2005 and we had a humanist funeral. It was excellent. Unlike witness funerals there was no aim to convert everybody or to tell everyone this is what God wants us to do.

The funeral was focused on my father, what he did with his life, how he helped others etc.

It was the most respectful funeral I have ever been to. There was serious moments and funny moments recalled. Also you can choose to play maybe some special piece of music that was enjoyed by the deseased.

I also believe that any humanist will get on well in life, being particularly practical people and not thinking that they will have a better time in the afterlife.

Six screens of the WT

has anyone had trouble getting on to the six screens website?.

i try to check on the conference calls occasionally, but i can't today.. thanks.

Hi drew, yes I can't get to the website either. I hope Rick is ok. I sent him a Facebook message a few days ago reminding him that he has not posted the last 3 conference calls which I always enjoy listening to.

Does anyone else know if all is well?

Anyone got the December KM yet for UK

as it is the end of the jw service year, it would be nice to see how they finished up in august 2010 as regards total publishers.. quite often there seems to be a big push to get as many as possable to put in a service report to finish the year off.. so a scan would be good or just a report on how many publishers they ended up with.

Thanks ever so much fokyc. My jw son is always going on about the great increase in the org, and these end of year figures for UK show that certainly in UK there is no great increase.

They did have a new peak in publishers of 134,339, but the years average publishers was a rather pathetic 1% increase, barely keeping up with the population growth in Britain

Pioneers were up 2% 0n last year, possably caused by the recession with more JWs out of work, they may well have spent more time door knocking.

Interesting figure for baptisms was the average of 2611 which is a 12% DROP on last year. The memorial figure showed a drop as well of 637 less in attendance.

If the rest of Europe pans out the same as UK, that will be at least be one continent where the org is slowly dying.

i do not know how to scan the wt if someone can it would be great but i wrote it out verbatim .

i think what the wt says speaks for its self.

am i missing something and or reading something into what they are saying.

How many have you gotten out of the Borg?

i'll start -.

i have officially gotten 2 out so far, which is more than i ever got into it, with the exception of my son that i begged not to get baptized.

he, however, is disfellowshipped now and wants nothing to do with the organization.

I think it is very hard for us to know definately who we have helped out, but I do know I saved my younger son from joining when my eldest son joined them.

Also many of us write on JW forums and I know there are many who are helped there by all the ex witnesses who expose what really goes on in the tower.

To be honest, there is going to be some truth in any of their magazines. It's just the further you go back the more things you will find wrong.

As has been said, with their publications, things change all the time, but that does not mean everything is wrong. Particularly in the Awake there are many good articles about life on the planet. On the doors I used to say to poeple that the Awake is more of a Readers Digest magazine.

Never heard that one before but certainly the type of comment you could read in a Watchtower.

Over the years the society have made all sorts of remarks aimed at showing that soon we will not be able to cope because of the mounting problems coming upon man.

And hey, guess what everything they have said in that regard has proved totally false.
