  Question 1. a. (If they are honest) Only extremely active, baptised JWs will survive. Or b.(Skirting the issue with non-JWs) Only Jehovah knows.

  Question 2. Only Jehovah knows. (But very soon.)

  That's the answers I got, anyway.

  My self-worth does not actually depend on another poster's opinion of me.

  i've been trashed and bullied by one poster for posting info off the internet that i was offering to someone in need of hope.

  i began a thread on the subject of whether it is right or wrong to offer hope to someone in desperate circumstances in order that the poster could see that theirs wasn't the only opinion of any value.

  while most who responded were in agreement with the validity of being encouraging and offering hopeful info that can be looked into or not, it's the viewer's choice, that poster has continued his bullying, stating that i'm mentally, literally incompetent, basically stupid and irresponsible, though i'm so incompetent that i shouldn't be actually held accountable for my well-meant ignorance.

  Hi, Frannie!

  Just when you think you left the bullies behind in high school....

  Isn't it amazing how they can figure out a way to drag you in to the same BS over the internet?

  I had my share of it awhile back too, but AK-Jeff reminded me that these forums are open to all types, all over the world, so you just have to take the good with the bad. (And hope that there are more good than bad, which I think is the case on JWD.)

  I love your topics and your comments. I also appreciate your description of bipolar. That was very enlightening.

  I hope you won't let the bullying influence your future postings. I have found that they will follow you and ridicule every thing you say, once they know they can get under your skin. Also, as typical bullies do, they usually get a few others to jump on the band wagon with them. Just ignore it. It's no fun to bully someone who won't respond. That is a great thing about the internet. Unlike school, you really can avoid responding!

  You add a very encouraging and uplifting heart to this forum, and we all benefit from that.

  why have jws got so many women among thier ranks?

  Since I have not been a JW, but have friends who are, and have read a lot of counter-cult material, here is what I understand about this topic:

  Women are most likely to be home at the times JWs knock. (Stay at home Moms.)

  Stay at home Moms and house wives are often times lonely and/or bored.

  Get the wife interested, and often times the husband and kids will be pulled in.

  Emotions, tragedies, new surroundings, etc...all play a part of why anyone becomes involved, but I think that women tend to be at the right place, at the right time. (Or wrong place at the wrong time.)

  I sincerely doubt that very many JWs would willingly go out at times when they know for certain men are home from work and more likely to come to the door. Women are typically home during the day, not men. Women usually aren't as brash as men. They feel the need to be a little more polite. They also aren't as threatening. And sometimes they are just plain starved for attention. Single Moms need grown-up people to talk to. About ANYTHING!!!

  That's what I have noticed. My friend was caught at a moment of great sadness in her life. Her husband was at work and she was sitting alone with a 2 yr. old baby day in and day out. Wondering if this was what life was all about. Ripe for the picking.

  the one with the "preaching work will finish in our 20th century" quote ....i will pay good money for it....pretty please....it could sway someone out of the watchtower trap... they wont look at photocopies...here's hoping...

  Is it on the Watchtower Library CD-ROM? Surely they wouldn't mind looking at it there.

  just say the truth.

  don't embellish.

  just give the facts to people.....for example, tell people that jws don't think it's wrong to actually lie if they believe that telling the truth to a person could hurt them.

  They are a branch of Adventists, their founder used to teach that Jesus returned in 1874, his grave is marked with a pyramid, they had a house built for OT saints called Beth Sarim, they now teach Jesus returned in 1914, (although they cannot count, because the 607 date for the fall of Jerusalem is a tad off...), etc....much of which can be found within the pages of their very own Proclaimers of God's Kingdom book. Including, but not limited to the white washed versions of teaching the world was going to end in 1975.....----need I go on?

  Chapter 5 ALONE of this book is filled with lots of awesome truth! :0)

  i just received a copy of the proclaimer's of god's kingdom book.

  my jw friend offered to get me a copy, but then when i asked a few questions about the chapter she sent me, and told her i would actually like to take her up on the offer and have the entire book, she said it wasn't available after all.. won't she be surprised when i tell her i found it and bought it off of ebay?!

  i wondered if anyone here knows of a web site that might help me cut to the chase and find all the questions i need to ask from this book?

I have already found MANY, but due to a lack of time, I would really like to have some quick pointers. At least until I have the time to go through it more thoroughly at a later time.

  Any help you can give would be great! (Even after they obviously doctored a lot of their history in it, this book still has a lot of damning evidences within it.) Wow.

  Your Opinion Wanted-What should really be done to child molesters?

  i have not tried to hide my past as a victim of this, but this is always an area that i have to fight my personally feelings as to what should be done to child molesters.

  they ruin lives, scar an individual for a lifetime!.

  should they be incarcerated for life, castrated, turned over to the family member(s), public humiliation like a branding everywhere they go, tortured and or death penality?.

  At the very least, it should be tattooed across their foreheads, so that the rest of us know who they are and what they are all about. At least we could try to protect our children from them.

  Experts on 607 BCE--How do you make the point simply and effectively?

Of course, she writes back telling me about all the complicated info. she has, gives me a WTS reference of how 587 can't be right, makes the statement that even if the 1914 date is off, it isn't off by much (What??!!!), all that matters is that we know Jesus is in power right now. There may not even be scientific proof for that date, yadda, yadda, yadda......

  She says that we need to sit down and basically go over it in person with all her "materials". She is even trying to pawn me off on other JW friends who can "explain it better".

  Here is the thing: I want to show that it really is not that hard to figure out, in terms that she can understand. I also need it in terms that I can understand and convey effectively. I would like to know what arguments might surface and how I can lay them flat.

  Do you have any suggestions? I want to keep things short and sweet, because drowning her in data is not going to help. That is what she tries to do to me.

  If any of you have found some great ways to get this point across, then I would love to hear about it.

  High school anti-cult lessons

  i've been asked to help develop a course for high school students to teach them about destructive cults and how to identify them.

  not jw-bashing) to be useful for all students (and also not to frighten off jw kids and their parents), i would hope it might help jws (kids and parents) to start to think.

  does anyone know of anything similar that we could buy in?

  I had tried to find a program also, but didn't have much success in finding an already put together program. I am using an outline that can be found at HowCultsWork.com. It does not mention any names, and it has great info. on the various cults that are out there. I also am using some of the info. from Steve Hassan's books (Lifton's 8 criteria, etc...).

  Since you are speaking to kids of many backgrounds, many of them may be in a cult and not realize it (yet). If you make it a point NOT to mention any names of cults, then there shouldn't be a problem with any of the parents. In fact, maybe they will see the parrallels as their child goes through the class.

  A friend of mine showed How Cults Work to her daughter-in-law, without mentioning the JWs, and it did have an impact. I would stress the importance of doing research on the history of any organization that you plan to join. (Cults do not typically look in to their own history. They just like to dig in to every one else's dirty laundry, while ignoring their own.)

  If you find any great programs or info., please PM me! I am trying to put something together too, and it would be great to hear how you are coming along with your's.
