I was talking to a friend and he said the CO (i think) was coming down this saturday for some special talk at 3 PM. I don't ever recall special talks on a saturday, or as late as 3 pm -- what could it be? Unless I misunderstood that it was the CO, maybe it was someone else. But he definately said saturday at 3, and it was a special visit or special talk. He is a pioneer but not a MS... hm... whats up with that?

Heh, wow, good thing I have my fire-retardant suit on because there is a lot of flaming going on in here. It is funny to think how so many people on an X-JW site are really opinionated about politics. Didn't you guys learn ANYTHING from the Watchtower magazines? :) roflz into infinity

When I say Bush lied, I'm talking more about his famous “nation building” and the like. There are several things he has contradicted himself on and has backtracked on his words once this war started. I think the intel we used was as good as it could have been – if it was wasn't corrupt from the start. I can understand your points on diplomacy, and you may be right. (As much as I don't like the idea) Ultimately though I still feel that war begets war and in the future the only permanent solution is language. I'm really enjoying everyone's comments on this one.
There is one thing I didn't get off my chest that I want to say. I think Bush rode the wake of fear into war, like any leader would have done. And I think he uses fear to try and get control of our cell phones and emails so he can catch the bad guys. But in today's world it seems that there is almost an extremist view. Almost as if America's safety depends on its total domination by the government. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. I think America is in danger, if we don't turn it around, of becoming self-righteous and unaccountable for our actions. Americans aren't God. I think, generally, that everyone is in danger of the mindset that we can fight anyone we want, anyone who we deem a “terrorist” for as long as we want because, for some reason, we have the right to. This “War on Terror” is too big, it is an excuse to invade other nations at will. If Saddam was an honest threat, that is fine that we got him, but what happens over time when people become complacent and men in power use the war on terror to justify something that isn't honest?
I refuse the idea that sympathy for Iraqi human life or questioning the morality of this war is siding with the enemy. Those are the things a dictator would say, and those are the things the presidential powers have suggested. What really irritates me is the propaganda used to influence America and this extremist mindset. What it really boils down to is ways of thinking. If the religious extremist groups of the world didn't teach what they do none of this would be happening. I think Religion shoulders a lot of the blame for uncountable murders throughout time, and it is no different in our day. Look what is happening over beliefs in the middle east . . . what happens when the American religious belief kicks in? We are getting too full of ourselves. I've talked to a lot of guys at work and through friends that honestly believe that this is God's land and we have to kill anyone who is our enemy. What a great mindset to have. When was it ever okay to kill people? We might be forced to – but that doesn't make it right, and I think there are a lot of American's who think that killing is justified somehow. That somehow it's okay because God wants us to, or that we are allowed. I can't help but think that America has a dangerous mindset that, with a little molding, is waiting to be turned into an out of control war beast. I hope that doesn't happen, I'm just trying to put my hopes in the moral fiber that I believe is inherent in most people, and that eventually everyone will agree on moderate actions and views.
I know I'm on a rant and I'm sorry but I had to let it out. Patriotism does not equal moral irresponsibility, and I'm tired of hearing that it does. URGH That's all I gotta say. Thanks for listening and thanks for posting. -

Forcher: I appreciate your post. I suppose I do agree with some of the points you make. My post here was made because I'm angry with the world situation. I suppose, too, I have a problem with such an open-ended war like the "War on Terror". This isn't good versus evil, nothing is that simple. Bush lied, plain and simple. He has, and is, abusing his power. I don't think immediately pulling out is the answer, but what we are doing right now isn't either. Bush has made some colossal mistakes and had inflamed the situation to the point of insanity. Again, my opinions, and the reason for my anger. I am, however, curious about something. You mentioned that you disagree with the idea of diplomacy. Why is that? Why do you feel that war is the solution here? I'm not trying to be rude I'm just genuinely curious.

I'm pissed today and I'm about to let it out. I hope nobody gets offended because these are only opinions. Is anyone else outraged by our President? Poor Clinton couldn't get away with an affair (not that it's right) but Bush gets away with literal genocide? Where was the evidence of weapons in Iraq? Iraq wasn't connected to the war on terror. It seems to me that in today's world bad-mouthing Bush is nearly equivalent to apostasy; you can't say anything negative about it because then you are suddenly on the terrorist's side. That is simply not the case and I can't believe ANYONE buys into that line of thinking. That is the kind of propaganda dictators and Jehovah's Witnesses use! I don't agree with what happened on 9/11, I don't agree with nationalism, religious or extremism views but I also don't agree with how our idiot president has handled the situation. Him and his goons have lied about everything that has happened since 9/11. American media DOSEN'T EVEN SHOW the murders, the hurt, the pain, the bloodshed of those poor people in Iraq. They don't show dead bodies of children that have been shredded by our bombs. It's intellectual dishonesty, they are turning a blind eye to the disgusting violence that is going on over there. If they had been showing what is really going on our troops would have been home already. It's pointless to fight a war where you don't even know the enemy. This can't be solved with guns or more troops, it HAS to be solved with diplomacy. With words. The people that hate America might have a reason to. Like our presidents haven't ever done another nation wrong? This isn't even our war anymore. When are we going to stop the insane bloodshed? I'm just a patriotic as the next guy, but I will not be patriotic when our leader acts like this. It's high time we impeach our president and charge him with the same crime Saddam was charged with.

If there is no life after death

onacruse: Great topic by the way, just really great. I want to mention something no one else has, unless I didn't read everything. You are asking for some kind of reason for acting proper. The reason you do it is because society has made it difficult to act bad, so it's easy to do it the "right" way -- but why morally? What is the point? Maybe, if there is no God or afterlife this is the only life we have right? Then, in that case, it should be our desire -- no, our obligation to act right. If there is no afterlife then it is our responsibility to build THIS society into one that is not full of terrible things for the sake of our children and their children. By acting "right" you contribute to a greater cause : the betterment of future generations. Imagine if EVERYONE who didn't "act right" did "act right" or at least taught their children to a little better. Building a better future, a complete, relatively error free future, is no more impossible than an afterlife. If we could all teach our children, as a human culture, to put away violence (which again isn't anymore implausible than God saving us) it would be a much better place. Acting right isn't about yourself -- it's about your children. It's about love. Love for the future and what could be.

THE BIBLE ADVOCATES GENOCIDE?
by steve2 inhave biblical apologists satisfactorily explained the blood-drenched biblical passages in which jehovah orders his people to wipe out every living soul - young, old, men, women, child, infirm - in the territory they're told to invade?.
who needs bin laden when you've got jehovah?
or is jehovah excused because he's truly mightier, like, because he's the creator he can call the shots, no matter how much and who's blood is shed?

This is exactly what I'm having a serious problem with right now, no one can explain it except that some Christians might say that "well those people were evil anyways" which is just some evasive answer that basically means they don't know or can't explain it. Jehovah was a god of war, there was a book references in the Old Testament called the Book of the Wars of Jehovah. God had so many wars it filled a book? God told the Israelites to kill every living thing, including women, children, and animals. Hm, sounds more like Jehovah was some hate-filled human leader of those Israelites who had a serious vendetta against certain nations. Just look at the hate-filled and war torn middle eastern lands, that very same thing is still going on in Gods name, but no one Christian really believes it is God doing it... do they? But they sure as shoot believe in the Bible, including the Old Testament. Why should anyone believe in Moses, Abraham or anyone in the OT who spoke and performed atrocities in God's name when they don't believe it today when it happens right in front of their eyes by a contemporary group? Maybe one day all the religious killing and conflict in the middle east will be added to the Old Testament and it too will be God in action.

What Do You Think About Jesus' Failed Prophecy?
by Morocco ini suppose im addressing the believers/agnostics more than the atheists on this one, but please, everyone feel free to comment.
so, it is apparent from the scriptures that jesus and his followers believed that the end of the world was coming in their own lifetime.
i tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.

I suppose I’m addressing the believers/agnostics more than the atheists on this one, but please, everyone feel free to comment.
So, it is apparent from the scriptures that Jesus and his followers believed that the end of the world was coming in their own lifetime.
I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. – (Matthew 24:34, Mark 13:30)
I suppose you could debate those scriptures like the Watchtower has – “this generation” is some future generation. But what about these :
Matthew 16:28
“I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”
Mark 9:1
“And he said to them, ‘I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power.’”
Luke 9:27
“I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.”
So “some standing here”, as in some listening to Jesus speaking, was in reference to people of that specific day (not day as in time, day as in 24 hour day). THOSE people, at THAT time. It was obvious that Jesus prophecy failed, unless he never made this prophecy which is a whole other can of worms and one which stinks just as bad. What does everything think about it? -

King was never trying to reconcile the flaws in the WTS and his need to believe. He has a grudge, a personal vendetta against the Tower. That's exactly why he condemns them but asks for monetary support. He wants to beat them at their own game; beat them at the psychological control of people using religion and shut them down. That's why he condemns them but uses the ship of theology they already built in attempt to do it.
