Hi!
by sarahbear76 inso i just registered and i thought i should say something about myself instead of just lurking about.
i'm 21 years old and i left the the jw's when i was 18. i was born into the religion so it's been really hard getting use to things.
my story is pretty complicated and for some safety reasons i can't say to much.

Italian Nun Murdered; Possible Link to Pope's Remarks
by Kenneson inin somalia, gunmen shot to death an italian nun, who worked in a hospital which serves mothers and children.
this came only hours after a leading cleric condemned pope benedict for his remarks on islam and violence.
some think there may be a connection.

Nice Kenneson, I love it when people think no religion is more benefit than religion. Then they find out that more people have been killed by non-religious regimes in the last 80 years than by all religous wars in the history of mankind

correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't get stone for saying you've been around for a long time or for being crazy. Was it not understood by the Jews that what Jesus was saying was a claim to diety?

what do other religions believe about jesus ruling " invisibly"
by candidlynuts inas a jw we believed he was in power after 1914 .
do other religions believe he rules or will rule "invisibly"?.
and if he is in power, what do you think of his job performance so far?.
-
Kristofer
Most Christians I know don't believe in an invisible return, but rather a visible one. Even the Jehovah's Witnesses believed in a visible return until 1914 flopped...then they changed it years later to an invisible return.

Should Ex-JWs Speak Out?
by girasole inwhen it comes to the jws i used to hold the position, "to each his own.
" i still do in some respects.
i agree that it is most likely futile to try de-convert a die-hard jw.

I think it would be a very good idea for churches to have workshops like Bible study in being able to defense against and answer Cults. Some denominations are better defended than others because of their Bible knowledge.. But I know from personal experience in the Catholic Church that the Bibel isn't read with the same emphasis. Consequently, in my personal experience, I've noticed that the JWs I know were converted from Catholicism.

Is a sexually promiscuous life style linked to depression or insecurity?
by free2beme ini work in an environment at work that is a mix of adult ranging in age from 18-50. there are 300 plus people in the building, and that means you get a lot of soap operas happening from people sleeping with other people's girlfriends, boyfriends and even people cheating on their spouses with people they work with.
among the bunch is a large group of people who spend a lot of time passing themselves around, and sampling many sexual partners.
of the people who i know, i have often found that many do not seem as happy as one might think.

i think it would misguided to say that one causes the other. In my opinion, they are both symptoms of something else and not necessarily related to each other.

It's your very situation that brought me to this board. I'm not and never was a JW, my ex-girlfriend is. I haven't seen her face for 9 months now. We maintained contact through the phone until this past May. She told me everything would be ok if I was a JW. But I don't buy into it's mistranslations, deceitful interpretations and doctrines of men. She had to let me go. I was ready to marry her, to take her away. In some ways she's the better person because she always knew that she'd go back to The Org. She had the strength to walk away from me and I'm the fool that would do anything for love. Not a day goes by that I don't miss her and wish we were together but I know deep down that my feedom, my faith and my happiness was at stake. I can't say that I'm happy we aren't together, but I'm happy I didn't become a JW. Ya know, I never thought I'd hear from her again as long as I lived. However, she called me two weeks ago, just to let me know she was alive and to see how I was doing. Deep inside me, I still hold on to hope. She would never listen to any of the information I would give her. She was in too deep for it. Yet still, I hold on to the hope that something will happen in the future. I think you've got to trust God. Never compromise who you are or what you believe. If she loves you enough, you'll be together. If not, and heart-break is the only outcome, I'm sure there are reasons it is all happening this way, lessons will be learned and who knows where the whole experience will take you next. Have faith my friend and trust in God. Stay strong -K-

Trinity discussion - link me up please
by Inquisitor ini remember once reading someone's post where he/she used an excellent scripture that strongly suggests that jesus is god.
i think the point was that jesus was going to raise "the temple" which is his body, i.e.
jesus will resurrect himself.

Links I believe will assist you http://home.comcast.net/~neirr/believeintrinity.htm excellent essay in response to The Watchtower publication (including a brief discussion of John 1:1) http://www.carm.org/jw/john1_1.htm Discussion of John 1:1 just some other thoughts: In the Old Testament there are references to God's Holy Spirit and what is referred to as the Angel of the Lord. Most early church Father's recognize that the "Angel" of the Lord was more than a mere Angel. There are several references to Angel of The LOrd that infer that it is God himself including the one speaking through the burning bush to Moses as well as the name given to Jacob, "Israel" which means "he who wrestles with God" after he wrestled with the Angel of The Lord. Also note that Scripture says that THE WORD saw it not robbery to be equal with God. But that he emptied and humbled himself lower than the angels. Simply, you do not seek what you have. He was equal with God and was clearly above the angels in order to lower himself. Several texts in the NT have the scribes and pharisees making an acknowledgement that Jesus was saying things that make him Equal to God. Though he never stopped being God when he became man, he relinquished himself of his power and authority in order to live and suffer as a man. So that everything done while he was on earth was given to him by The Father. Even Jesus stated that he has the power to take leave his life and take his life up again. John 10:17 Notice also where The Watchtower renders Jehovah to the all the places where KURIOS is in the New Testament EXCEPT for where it says JESUS is JEHOVAH in Philippians 2:11. THey leave it as Jesus Christ is Lord, eventhough the Greek says Kurios. For sake of keeping this post short, that's all I'll write for now.

Aposta-Mag!
by Kristofer inso i've pondered the idea of making a one-time publication like the awake!
magazine which educates the reader on jw doctrine, the brief history, false prophecy, biblical defense and an exposure of changing doctrines, cover-ups and lies.
it would include a list of website links to keep the mag brief and they could go to sites for more indepth research.

So I've pondered the idea of making a one-time publication like the Awake! magazine which educates the reader on JW doctrine, the brief history, false prophecy, biblical defense and an exposure of changing doctrines, cover-ups and lies. It would include a list of website links to keep the mag brief and they could go to sites for more indepth research. Then following the same field work the congregation does and passing one out to every household.
I know you might say that this is too much work (which it is..) or that THAT much time and mind shouldn't be paid to The Org...
Somehow, though, I can't help but think of the immense satisfcation that would be had in knowing that every person a JW approached on field service had knowledge of the group and the tools to respond to them. I can imagine the hilarity of JW's running away from doorsteps with their hands flailing in the air thinking the entire neighborhood has gone Apostate!
Your thoughts?
Has this been done before? It seems like it would have been.
