Disfellowshipping - How long to return?

does anybody know how long it takes for one to get re-instated if you are not that well liked by the body of elders?

i was disfellowshiped for immorality almost 2 years ago.

with my job and attending college to keep in step with my field of work, i have only been attending the sunday talk & wt meeting every week.

Have you given them a letter requesting reinstatement? If so, it all depends on how "repentant" they feel you are. Which, as other posters have stated, can be in terms of weeks/months/years, it all depends on the local body of elders. Of course, if you don’t have family in it, why do you want to return (even if you are "repentant")? If you want to conform to "Christianity" of course, you’ll need to make changes in your life, regardless of whether you’re accepted back as a JW. Actually, I no longer believe JW’s are truly "Christian." (But that’s just my opinion—and another story!) You need to determine for yourself, if you want to be a "Christian" or not. If you want to be one, then conform to the "standard" set forth in the Bible, otherwise, do as you please. Becoming a JW is another question, an independent/separate question, in my opinion.

Hope whatever you choose works out well for you (and your other half)! Try to find happiness my friend! You’re always welcomed here on this board of course! Take care!

I never realized the Society’s position until you posted these references. I speed-read them, but will need to further "digest" (SIC--sorry for that!) what is being said. I was a little taken-back by references made to the "1925" date! It looks like they (Rutherford) were trying to SAVE FACE (hehe)! Anyway, I’ll post more after doing a more careful reading of this. Once again, thanks for this posting, it was very enlightening!

Thanks for bringing this up! I don't recall reading this when it first came out, but more recent Watchtowers seem to indicate Paul was a follower rather than part of the GB. However, as usual, Watchtower frequently contradicts or reverses itself! So what else is new?

little depressed...

i need to vent, and what better place to vent?.

i can not get over the fact that my well-adjusted life, where i am happy, and to me, doing the right things, will always be seen as immoral by my family members and former friends.

the recent email exchange (http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/56683/1.ashx <---yay drama) between myself and an ex best friend just makes these feelings come rushing back.

I'm in a similar position. I'm sure once I completely cut myself off from "mother-Watchtower," my family will shun me too! I'm a little afraid of this, but what can I do? I believe we need to "pick-up-the-pieces" and move-on.

Hang in there "jwbot! On this board you have a plethora of warm friends that truly care and understand how you feel! They're going "through-it" or have "been-through-it!"

Update on study with Elder....

i took the advice of the forum and informed him i wouldlike to study the bible.

he arrived case in hand and pulled out the draw close to jehovah publication.. i said i thought we were going to study the bible...he then said well this is a bible publication...i said has not past publications contained errors and changes in teachings while the bible remains true.

he said yesssss.......do you have something inparticular you want to look at in the bible.....i said i thought we could start in matthew and work our way through.

Glad to see you asking questions! Obviously, the R&F do not have too many answers! Is that any surprise?

I’m in a similar position as you folks. Elders and others are stopping by on a daily-basis! Anyway, hope you can put these jerks on edge! When you separate these guys from the Bible and their publications, they don’t know what to say! They become speechless! Why is that? Oh yea, they can’t seem to answer ANY questioning of their beliefs! Anyway, although many have given-up on the Bible, I wouldn’t dismiss it that quickly! Please consider that it may be basically true and every man a liar!

Thank you for posting your experience! "We’re" with ya man! ( I love this board! You can express what how you feel at any time!) Let us know what happens in the coming weeks! Don’t dismiss the Bible that quickly—although I can understand how that could happen! Many have the left the Bible behind. However, regardless of this, we accept whatever choice you and your wife make! Thanks for "visiting" with "us."

The NWT Bible Audio Cassettes

in 1978, the society released the first of the audio cassette versions of the new world translation.

the first book to be released was the gospel according to john.

as a child who was also a keen bible student i thought it was great as it meant that i could follow along with the reading and get all the pronunciation correct.

A JW from Orlando, Florida, last name of Mackie (spelling?), did much of the reading on the current tapes. He was in radio and TV for many years, is partly paralyzed, and has a brother that’s a CO/DO. He gave some of the most memorable talks I’ve ever heard some 20+ years ago. I'm not sure if he's still alive.

has anyone read "jehovah's witnesses defended: an answer to scholars and critics" by greg stafford?

i haven't but i ask this because it got a 4.5 rating on amazon.com!!!.

His more recent book, "Three Dissertations..." probably wipes-out most of his previous works/arguments (which were not very good, in retrospect)! However, I'd still recommend (if any) his most recent book, "Three Dissertations!" (But his arguments in this latest book, are extremely sterile, obviously; he’s trying to avoid the Watchtower’s-equivalent of hell-fire damnation, i.e., being DF’d!)

Speaking straightforwardly, I’m not sure I’d recommend his latest book! He’s somewhat scholarly, but none of his books (especially the last one) come to a proper conclusion or give explicit direction! I like books that make arguments, but also tell me what I should do! Although he is, obviously, interested in raising questions regarding JW beliefs, his writings, although interesting, I find, give no clear direction!

I suppose they’re trying to address the problem with "millions now living will soon die!" "Due to failed expectations on the part of you R&F witnesses (not us, of course, "God’s Channel" here in Brooklyn), you will likely die before the big-A and the "New World!"" So here’s the new promise: "how do you want to be remembered WHEN YOU DIE?"
