  Those wonderful, insightful, platform talks.......

  ...so annalice and i were discussing this topic the other day and now i pose it to you.

  remember all those talks from the platform where the brothers encouraged the congregation that as far as putting in hours in the field ministry that we must remember that if brother a can only put in 5 hours a month and he puts that 5 hours a month in, then he is doing all that he can (applause, applause) and if brother b can put in 50 hours a month and he does, there is no difference between brother a and brother b, because they are both doing all they can in jehovah's work.. well then, why is it that if brother a faithfully puts in that 5 hours a week, he can't carry microphones, he can't lead the congregation in prayer and he can't hold any priveleges, because he doesn't put in hours that match the national average??

  isn't that making brother a feel like shit and that he is unworthy?

  Yeah, I always hated that concept as well.

  I think their reasoning is that, if you don't have time to preach more than 5 hours, then you don't have time to hold other priviledges in the congregation.

  I find that to be very flawed. Operating the mircophones at meeting doesn't take any aditional time if you regularly attend the meetings. Nor does leading the prayer, or

  other various functions held DURING the meetings.

  .there are a greater percentage of people in the world who would like to " do good" as opposed to the other. Yeah, there're all kind of scammers in the world. but please don't think that most people are like that . . .it's the mindset of the Society that instills the thinking that most people are bad . . .that way THEY can come in and make everything better.

  I see the point you're trying to make. You're correct, the society and the j-dub culture stress the bad in everything and none of the good. When I'm around my J-Dub family

  I find it necessary to point out the good in people and the world when they are talking 'smack' and stating how 'horrible' everything is.

  Visual Methodologies and Watchtower Illustrations

  i have been reading a fascinating book about various strategies for studying the meaning of images: visual methodologies by gillian rose.

  various approaches covered include compositional analysis, content analysis, psychoanalysis, semiology and discourse analysis.

  it struck me how ripe watchtower imagery would be to such scrutiny, and how subtle trends in ideological emphases may be identified through the visual iconography that may be less apparent in the overt expositions of watcthower written texts.

  How much are they aware of the psychological manipulation? Is it all just so deeply rooted in them that this is simply a natural expression of their honest beliefs?

  I often struggle with that very question. Is the psychological manipulation intentional? Or was it intentional at one time and is now just a natural part of the

  J-Dub culture? I find it hard to believe that the old goobers at bethel have enough marbels upstairs to do anything intentional besides taking a dump and even that I'm sure is

  unintentional at times.

  Most people here are just careful about who they put their trust in. There is nothing wrong with doing background research on a person, business or service to ensure

  our own safety. This is why organizations such as the Better Business Bureau, and other non-profit and profit agencies exist, so that we can all protect ourselves.

  They used to report to the Service Desk (Theo Jaracz) and now they report to the Governing Body (Theo Jaracz).

  I've seen posts like this before indicating that Jaracz is the one behind the scenes running the 'show'

  How is it that we know this? Can someone point me to a link discussing this?

  How many of you joined to placate family members ?

  i was just wondering how many of you might have joined the organization to placate family members .

  i can say as a teen i was baptized for the sole purpose of quieting my father .

  how about you did you do it for the fear of losing family members

  I think I might be the dumbest one here. I didn't receive any pressure to get baptized, yet I was baptized at the age of 18 or 19, I forget the exact age.

  No pressure to do it, yet I willingly took the 'plunge'

  However I did see that others in the 'congregation' were pressured into it.

  imagine, if it was possible, if you could go back in time, some 20 or 30 or even 50 years in the past, and telling the witnesses back then, that by 2006, absolutely nothing the watchtower predicted would happen.

  what do you think would have been their reaction?

  Do you know how many people in my old hall that said some like......'I never thought so-and -so would even go to school letalone graduate from it'!

  I'm embarrased to say this, but when I was in Junior high I had the attitude that I didn't need to go to college or even worry about graduating High School because

  I knew for certain, that the 'new system' would be here first. I'm not proud of that moment, but am proud of my eyes being opened to this cult.

  I haven't been to the memorial in three years, and yet everyone thinks I've never missed one. Boy do I have them all fooled, but it's easy to do when I live

  E-mail response from an old dub friend......

  okay, so i suppose i asked for this...but regardless i'm ready to puke!

  last week i e-mailed an old "dub" friend from another city.

  she's had some health issues and i hadn't heard from her for a few months, and wanted to know how she was doing....her brother also recently got married and i asked about that as well.

  I'd email her back reminding her that she didn't want justification from you, but her entire email consisted of justication of her beliefs.
