I have to go because there is much...much...much to be lost if the wife ever senses the slightest bit of doubt from me.
I feel your pain. I hope it goes as well as possible.
well, one third of the convention is over, i had no choice but to attend due to my current situation.. the talks were worse than last year, and as usual if you have seen the program you will not find jesus in any of the talk titles - in fact, the only time jesus is mentioned is during a prayer or in connection with the ministry.. when you become aware of how sidelined jesus is, you can't help but notice that jehovah's witnesses are a modern version of the old testament religion - it's all about control, be attentive, obey the "faithful and discreet slave" etc etc, in stark contrast to belief and salvation through jesus.. only the talks with midly interesting material or that had ridiculous phrases used by the speaker are shown here.. friday.
9:50 be attentive to jehovah's promises of deliverance .
would you believe that this 20 minute talk was solely about being attentive to the program?

as a witness, i was very prone to follow the group of thinking that was in the kingdom hall and not speak out for myself.
i am sure a lot of us would agree, this is the general pattern of most good little witnesses.
yet, in my post-witness life experience, i have learned this is about as common a thing in life, as there could be.
I don't know - what does everybody else think? now that's funny.
does anyone else remember that line from the songs?
were you odd?
did you mind?
I really hated the questions about holidays. After each holiday I'd get the same question,, what did you do? where did you go? etc. etc.
When I gave my typcial response of not celebrating holidays, the look of disbelief on the questioner's face got to be too much to handle at times.

Shoot. The apostles asked questions for Godsake!
Excellent point! When the apostles asked questions or had doubts, Jesus didn't yell at them to use a 1 inch paint brush on the quick build tabernacle.
Jesus being perfect and the son of god, could have expected complete and total submission, but he didn't.
Yet the Wacktower thinks they are infallible and deserving of a blind obedience.
Ridiculous I say!!
my parents had a "feeling" that the end would come in october 1994. i have no clue what this was based on, but i remember this was preceeded by other "feelings" about when the end would come that didn't materialize.
i guess they just did it to get keep the feeling of urgency since the end was "just around the corner".
my dad was an elder and i don't remember anyone making a stink about it when he voiced his ideas in service... just a big hearty chuckle all around with a "you may be right!
apocalyptic thinkling
For some reason that strikes me as funny.
You combine two words,, the act of 'tinkling' and thinking and what do you get? Thinkling. Is that what I do when I'm taking a leak?
what was the most humiliating thing that happened to you as a direct result of being a jw?
for me it was when i was made fun of at school for wearing dresses down to my knees, and tights, when mini-skirts and pantyhose were all the rage.
i remember that i got this orange plaid jumper dress (dates me) from a friend, and i would hide it so that i could change into it in the bathroom at school.
Speaking of pee,
I'm aware of one brother that had very little bladder control. It was common and expected that sometime during morning field service he would yell to stop the car,
proceed to jump out and take a 'leak' at the side of the road, in the ditch, or behind a tree if one was available. I would imagine he had some medical condition that he
had not discussed with a Dr. He was so poor financially, I imagine he had never visited a Dr.
I wish I could give more details but that would definitely give me away considering how strange this brother is/was. I wonder about him sometimes, whether or not he's
still attending the 'meetings' He was sincere in his beliefs, but because of his strangeness the congregations that he's attended always treated him as an outcast.
my god, there's going to be so many - so rather than spam the board, i'll put them all here... any help appreciated.. .
what is the best mobile phone (cell phone) to buy when you arrive in the us that has coverage right from the east to west coast and central regions?
the phone itself will get ditched after the trip, i just need one that's cheap to use.
What's the difference between a crossroads and a 4 way stop?
I believe the general rule at a crossroads, is that you don't have to come to a complete stop and it's first come, first serve, as to who gets to travel through the intersection first.
Hopefully someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
.
gee, i had my first one at 45 years old.... it's so easy to spend with a credit card, especially when so many things are missing.. how did you cope with your first credit card?
did you start spending too much?
I know of someone that goes as far as freezing their credit cards in water. In doing so, by the time they get the credit card out of the freezer and unthawed, they've
had sufficient amount of time to reason on whether they truly need to use the card. I think they got this idea from a dr. laura type program
many ex-jw's experience a new found freedom to investigate and question all the things they once felt were true, and may ultimately come to the conclusion that the bible is just a book of stories and take science as their new "religion".
it happened to me...) but a question i have is this: are all supernatural experiences hallucinations?
science would say probably yes.
I have had dreams where one dead relative tells me they are waiting for another living relative to go to be with them - and then the living one dies unexpectantly
I've had the 'death' dreams on many occasions. I'm not sure what to call it, whether it's just merely intuition, or something more, I'll probably never know.
yet another question (two actually), i'm afraid (but i am learning from all this, honestly!)..
i've seen the term 'privileges' on here many times, and i think i now understand that it means 'being allowed to carry out tasks in the congregation' - which includes walking round with the microphone, operating the pa system, etc.
in the services.
Yeah, I remember being that guy operating the sound system. Oooohh Aaaahhhhh! At the time I felt it was such an honor. It was great to be taught the little tricks
that come with operating the sound system. I can still remember,,, before putting the kingdumb melody tape in,, it was standard procedure to use a pencil to turn the gear
on the tape forward a few turns, so that there was little to no delay between pressing 'play' and actually hearing the music. Praise Jehover for giving me this wonderful
pencil trick, tape forwarding knowledge. Another trick bestowed upon me. Instead of allowing the individual mic handlers to turn their mics on/off,, I would do all the on/off switching
from the board as this would minimize the times that mic handler typically forgot to hit the on button.
Oh and yes,, Don't forget about making my own comments during the watchtower study,, then I would have the priviledge of handing myself the mic, turning it on, and making a comment.
PRAISE JEHOOVER!!!. I was setting such a 'fine example' for the brothers/sisters that watched in awe at my genius. Wow, it only takes two monkeys to operate the sound board, and
look at me!! I can do it all by myself!
