Repetative prayer
by keo15929 ini hate to do this but i've got to say something about a certain elder that used to get me so annoyed when he prayed.
it's like he had his prayer prepared on a script with a few fill in the blanks here and there.
it's probably been over a year since i've heard him pray but i know his prayer by heart.

Ever wonder if an old friend turned apostate?
by beautifulisfree ini often wonder if my old witness friends from my past are still in the 'truth' (god i hope not)?
i know this site is pretty popular amongst ex-witnesses.
and since most of us have 'fake names'...we could be talking to someone that we already know.

NEW Interview with Bill Bowen of Silentlambs on recent events
by Dogpatch inthe last interview i did with bill bowen was in april of 2003, and new things have happened regarding the pedophile issues in the watchtower's corrupt system led by ted jaracz and his corporate cronies.
some things are the same (mainly wt policies), and others have changed.
it took 10 years to develop some legal precendents to be laid down in order for lawsuits against the catholic priest pedophiles to move ahead, and some important legal precedents have now been established in court so as to pave the road for effective lawsuits against the watchtower leaders for their complicity in allowing pedophiles to remain in the congregations in good standing, some even as elders.

Thanks Randy!
Is it just me or does Bill Bowen, sound a lot like Bill Clinton?
btw, donating even a small fund to SL on a monthly basis is quite easy. I do so, cuz I hate to see such an organization fail. This particular battle is too important.

That's a great idea WAC!!!
btw, I felt I could ask about the j-dub dating site, cuz I think I still have a profile up in one of those. I signed up years ago so that I could meet more j-dubs.

Remember when KH's had a piano and real singing?
by WingCommander inthe thread about got me thinking about my very early childhood, back when witnesses were allowed to be social and have get togethers.
they also had a piano in every congregation i ever attended, and an older sister would always play the kingdom melody.
there was actual singing - not mindless droning and humming.

I'm 31, but I recall the piano at the hall. My mother and one other 'sister' handled the piano duties on a regular basis. Mom, being the better of the two, played the piano during
most meetings while the other 'sister' was the 'backup'.
Our congregation was in a small town, rural midwest U.S. so we might have kept our piano longer than most congregations did. I believe we finally stopped using it in the mid to late
'80s Even after we switched to the recorded music on tapes, we had a lot of problems with the system, so the piano was kept on hand as a backup and was still used quite often.
I did enjoy that aspect of it. The music and singing seemed quite real and genuine.
Later, around 1999 when I was attending another congregation in the minneapolis area, the kingdumb hall still had a piano there. I just now remember it because during a lunch break
from preaching, we were at the hall, and two hardcore pioneer 'sisters' insisted upon playing the piano and having a sing along using the kingdumb melodies ofcourse.

How much did you put in the contribution box?
by jayhawk1 ini think as the prices of gas, health care, housing and other things continue to rise, the jw without a great education will struggle to put much in the contribution box.
it got me to thinking, how much did my family put in the contribution box at the kingdom hall.
this is what i estimate for the final 5 years i went 1994-1999.... $10.00 per week for about 5 years.

I never believed, so therefore never donated.
I was 'raised' in the 'truth', that being said, I have no doubts that my mom donated regularly.
I had issues with the teachings even at a young age. I recall being around the age of 10 and having a RV decline a bible study, my mother then informed me that the RV would
be killed at armageddon for not attending the kingdumb hall and becoming a witness.
I also watched the way my family(100 + relatives) shunned a family member that DA'd because he and his wife no longer believed in the j-dub religion. I thought it was very cruel
to see formerly close family members turn their back on someone like that. Even as a child it sickened me.
As a child I thought the worldwide genocide that witnesses hope for was ridiculous and therefore never donated. I did make the mistake of getting baptized cuz I was a bit of a
wimp and gave in to peer pressure. But I am proud that I never donated, though I do feel bad that the poor dubs at the hall probably made up for my lack of donations.

How big is the Watchtower carrot?
by Honesty ini don't want to brag, but i have good news!
one of the elders said that i progressed considerably in reading and that after i get baptized, he wants to use me as the brother that reads the paragraphs in the watchtower study.
i went from being frightened of raising my hand to comment, to the possibility of me being the one reading the study for the congregation.

what would your reaction be?
personally i'd feel sick (if my perfect body would allow that lol) as eternity stuck with them, would be worse than hell.
