my elderly relative called me all excited about this "letter" that was read in their kh last week.
she told me that it was all about being prepared for natural disasters, etc.
and how the p.o and secretary were updating all their publisher files.
"Of course, it can only mean 1 thing----the start of the Great Tribulation! No, the letter didn't say that, but they all knew!!!!!!! Wasn't this wonderful news?"
IMO, the letter was intended as a scare tactic to stir up the congregation into 'active duty' or more donations, etc. Sounds like it got their attention as they wanted.
my mother and i have never had a very close relationship.
she kicked me out of the house when i was 14 to move back in with the guy that molested me for 3 years.
i didn't have contact with her for about 3 years after that incident.
To state the obvious, she had no consideration for you or your feelings when she moved without giving notification and you had to track her down.
I'd say let her go. It's her turn to make changes, track you down and make efforts at a real relationship. You've done all you can.
when i am having a conversation with a family member who is a jw about the jw's and how i wasted the best years of my life following a cult, they come back with .
"yes but being a jw saved you from std's, drugs..." and all the usual stuff jw's are supposed to be protected from.
it seems to me that jw's think that they are the only people in the world who do the right thing and anyone else is up to their neck in crap, doing drugs and other unsplendid things and being a jw 'saved' me from these things as i am bound to have done them if i hadn't have been one.

Ah, yes, Every single non-jw on this planet is currently living on the street begging for drug money. prostituting themselves and carrying every sort of disease and std known to man.
Their elitist attitude is the only thing that united them.
im at my dads house at the moment and they have this dog thats 14 years old, and apparently this brand of dog has an average life expectancy of 10, so shes had a good innings.. now im not a dog owner, so its pretty easy for me to say i think they should put the dog down.
my dads wife is very sentimental about the dog.
i would say she was very attached to it, but for all her sentimentality, she has never walked the dog (its always been my dad) and she is not the one who gets up in the night with a mop and bucket - that'd be dad too.
Sounds like the dog is in pain. Does it still wag it's tail when someone walks in the door? If not, I'd say the dog is quite unhappy. Does the dogs eyes look sad?
If the dog has sad eyes and no longer wags it's tale, and along with the disability, then it's time to let her go.

Just be careful - the batteries may be lethal - the voltage may get a tad high... up in the hundreds of volts. I've personally seen a 72-volt system go into 'arc-welding' mode, when my voltmeter probes slipped... quite scary.
Agreed. In a pinch, you can even arc-weld with a 12 volt automotive battery. So just imagine what a 100+ volt battery could do to you. High Voltage DC is much more dangerous
than the AC counterpart, so be careful. Toyota 'lost' a couple of engineers due to electrocution while developing their hybrid vehicles.
once i left the jw social scene and started hanging out with "worldly" people a lot more, i realized that these "worldly" people don't gossip nearly as much as the witnesses.. i didn't realize it at the time but now i can see how much of a gossip-based social structure it all was.
jws absolutely thrive on gossip.

when and where do the dubs do this I have family members that like to take cruises and often arrange a fairly large group once a year. I guess you would have to know a group of j-dubs that do this regularly in order to know the exact dates, group size, etc. However maybe the previous poster will find something useful from the travel agent.

in all the years i attended meetings, i don't recall seeing anyone kiss anyone there....... all i saw were handshakes.. not even any hugs.. i thought of this a few days ago, when my cousin came over to visit my old parents, and when he left, he gave a warm handshake and slight hug to my dad and hugged and kissed my mom on each cheek.. you don't see this at the kh.
Don't you all know that a hug or kiss can lead to impromptu wild sex parties on the floor of the kingdom hall?
