My experience is that only those that came from a hard life, whether it be abuse, financial or various other hardships, are the only ones that are attracted to the j-dubs.

Worst Thing Youve Done In A Meeting?
by chuckie77 inwhats the worst thing youve done during a meeting?
years ago, when i was a bit more wicked/naughty/younger than i am now, i thought i would take some drugs just prior to the meeting to see if it would make things any more interesting.
it didnt, but at least i enjoyed the kingdom melodies tapping my foot to the beat and bopping my head!!

When I was 16 I masterbated in the second school. Only once. Renee (of the sexually deprived class)
Other than masturbating in the bathroom, which I did on several occasions, I would have to say that the worst thing I ever did during a meeting was steeling my mother car and taking it for a joy ride. ; I was fifteen and didn't even have a drivers permit. ; I decided to get out for a bit and took my mothers keys from her purse. ; I told her I was going to the bathroom but in realiaty I took her car out for a high speed cruise through the residential neighborhood that our local KH was situated in.
Hmm, I'm relieved I'm not the only one. I was fifteen and at the convention when I did the deed.

for atheists/agnostics
by BlackSwan of Memphis inhow did you get to the point where you are at now?
was it primarily new information that made you rethink religion and god?
learning about the ice age, the universe, the fossils out there?

I only believe something that can be proven. At this point, without an appearance from a 'supreme one' I know that we can't know for sure or prove that a god really exists.
I grew tired of the arguments such as: "look at how nice and wonderful everything is! There must be a god that created us!" That type of 'logic' is not evidence that a god exists.
I'm open to the possibility of a god, but I can't prove that one exists, therefore I consider myself agnostic.

Q & A sessions
by KW13 indoes anyone remember the old q&a sessions in meetings?
where all the dubs would answer as many questions as they could in x amount time?.
looking back, i remember not only was it super boring, (everyone was quiet and you could hear a pin drop) but it made sure all the rank and file were well and truly brainwashed mum/stepdad/friends used to all get their head down, scribbling away and hoping that they'd do well.

Just when I was starting to repress some of my j-dub memories, you had to go and bring this one back!
haha, I had completely forgotten about the rotten review. So it's an oral review now? When did they discontinue the written portion of the review?

Anyone still have friends in the org that they speak with?
by done4good ini ask this because i have two or three that know my stand on things, but am unsure of how to go about getting on the offensive with them, about the wts.
they are reasonable people, and i think if i could just plant the seeds in the right way, it may get them thinking.
so, i'm asking if anyone here has any real experience doing the same with ones they consider "friends" who either are still or were in the org at one time.. j

Whatever you do, just be careful in how you present yourself and what you say to these friends that you want to educate.
I had a friend that was an inactive j-dub,, he'd been inactive for years. I finally discussed with him everything I know to be true about the WT and how I feel about it.
I never heard from him again after that. I guess he's a inactive 'true believer'. Thankfully, he doesn't know any of my family or the local j-dubs as he lives out of state. Otherwise
I'd probably be looking at a JC from the local pharisees.

Bethellites and the opposite sex (potential dating pool)
by DaCheech inrecently i was reading this thead: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/20/118514/1.ashx.
i did not want to respond, because my experience was sort of on the other side of the fence.. .
seems like when i was on the dating scene: bethellites were getting the pick of the litter.. every hot girl out there was patrolling the assembly hall for bethellites only!!!

This is based only on my personal experience, but I find that the guys I know of that went to or are still at bethel are quite femine in nature and don't seem to be real men.
They also seem to be very out of touch with reality, and yes,, many of their conversations, responses, etc seem to be taken directly from the WT.
That being said, I still found that the 'bethelites' were often targeted by women that were spiritual gold diggers. I never did understand why a woman would target only bethelites,
since they usually had poor job skills, no house to live in, and can't have kids with them unless you leave bethel.

James,
I know now how really entrenched in JW thoughtspeak I was in 1975, but these things are like another bolt of shock for me! People really got guns to defend their stuff? I always thought that Jehovah would protect the ones he wanted to live and that it showed a lack of faith to stockpile anything at all. Did the elders know that these people were doing this? The Society wrote about survivalists and they were always associated with worldly people who were faithless.
I can't get used to hearing more, more and yet more disturbing things!! Where was I all these years! AAAAGGGGHHHH!!!!
Actually, the elders were some of the worst offenders regarding the survivalist mentality, stockpiling foods, gasoline, weapons, etc. in my example of my grandpa and the additional witness that I spoke with,, they were both elders at the time.

Baptized July 05. Left Dec 05.
by Moomin ini have been lurking on these forums for about 6 months and thought it was time to join in.. i was a child/teen when i first became introduced to jehovah's witnesses through my mum who studied for a while but never fully committed.
i had a study and attended some meetings but it all petered out by the time i hit my late teens and we moved to another town.. for the following 10 years i just lived my life how i pleased.
got married etc.

Ya know, it wouldn't that hard to attend a local congo here, pretend to be an interested one(using a different name ofcourse) then get
baptized, and turn in my DA letter a week later. That would ALMOST be fun, as it would probably confuse the local j-dubs to no end.
It's not like they check my driver's license or ID, I could easily do this at many congos, since I live in a very, very large metro area.
But on the other hand,, I've got much better uses of my time.

Why am I getting a feeling of impending doom, and wondering if I'll regret my good deed for the day?
I think the saying goes something like... "no good deed goes unpunished."

To this day, my grandpa has a 'secret' room in his home where he stores old army food rations and supplies so that he can survive the upcoming world genocide that j-dubs
dream about. Until recently, he even had underground fuel tanks that were full of gasoline so that he could still drive his car over all the dead bodies lying in the streets.
Funny thing is I mentioned to a witness about my grandpa and how strange it was for him to have an underground fuel tank(btw, an underground fuel tank is illegal in a large city without
proper permits) and this witness proceeded to tell me that he also has an underground emergency fuel tank and a secret room with supplies. I couldn't help but think that these people
are nuts!
