LOL, sorry COMF. Yep, that's all from me dating back to 2/97 on old H2O. I stumbled across my CDROM of H2O's libraries and thought I'd give it a whirl. LOL

For casual reading, NJB.
For serious, intensive study, NWT, hands down.

RR is right. Skally, you lifted that completely out of context.
Later in the same discourse Russel said:
"If you think it is the will of God you should join the Odd Fellows, and don't feel you are Odd Fellow enough in becoming a follower of the Lord, go and join the Odd Fellows. If you feel that you want to become a member of the Free and Accepted Order of Masonry, and do not feel free and Masonic enough as a follower of Christ, God bless you, use your judgment; that is yours to decide, not mine. But now I am talking about this great order of masonry of which Jesus is the Grand Master. This Order is to be entered in a peculiar way. There are certain conditions,--the low gate, the narrow way, the difficult path. Although I have never been a Mason, I have heard that in Masonry they have something which very closely illustrates all of this."
He then goes on to talk about goats and stuff, but the fact is that Russell stated many times that he did not know that much about Freemasonry. Here's a quote from "What Pastor Russell Said" found under the heading "Harvest," from 1908:
"All the various denominations are part of that great bundling system, and the effect is very similar in; fact I do not know why anyone who is a member of an ordinary church should make objection to a man being a member of the Odd Fellows or the Masons. So far as I can understand, they are a kind of a church, too, or they clam to be; they have their regular ritual service, and claim to go to the holy, etc., when they die. . . And so with the Masons; they had a method by which anyone desiring to leave the order could ask for a demit and he would get that without any particular question. I have been informed that now this is changed somewhat.
"A Brother: Brother Russell, I am a Mason and, unfortunately, hold a high position in the order, and I would like to make a little correction on that. A Mason is perfectly free to leave when he feels so disposed. No restraint whatever is placed upon him.
Brother Russell: I told you in the beginning that I did not know about it myself; I was only relating what a brother told me."
sKally here is doing the same thing that creationists do when they pull snippets out of the larger context of what scientists say about evolution as "evidence" that these men really believe in specific creation.

I don't feel like I am a mindless robot and I resent the implication.
Most JWs try their sincere best when it comes to practising godly devotion, but isn't the 1000 yr. reign supposed to unroot all our bad tendencies?
Here in New York and across the USA racial tensions between 'blacks and whites' are very strong. For some of that to spill into our brotherhood is natural. You may roll your eyes at that statement, but I personally find joy in the fact that we can overcome such problems!
Or will you now tell me you don't believe in satanic influence.
My faith in Jehovah and JWs remains.
I love 'the truth.'
I have found it interesting to research some of the claims made [by] using the Publisher's book. More often than not the explanation given in Pub's satisfies me.
The full number to complete 144,000 may well have been close to 100,000 between the 1870's and 1935. The numbers make perfect sense to me.
When matters are corrected, THAT is the holy spirit's operation. When matters of doctrinal change are made, and it is the truth, then that is the operation of holy spirit.
Although the Society may be wrong about 607 BCE, that still does not necessarily make 1914 wrong. 2520 years may all be hogwash, but world events and Jesus' sign prophecy may enough to keep the doctrine afloat for some (I personally know of some who feel this way). We teach 1914 because the Society directs us to. Why? Because they are still right in so many other outstanding ways.
Get your priorities straight, brothers.
And most of all, Jehovah is pleased.
It is important to submit time spent in the ministry for congregation records. Field service time is one way to measure a person's 'sprituality', certainly not the only way of course.
Our local CO brought out that Jehovah is offering us life eternal. Is it that difficult to spend 2 1/2 hrs. a week, a half a morning a week, in his service when he offers us so much?
It seems to me the Watchtower Society through its publications has taught us best who Christ really was, as a man and is, as a glorious King.
Sometimes we are forced to find answers for ourselves. That doesn't mean giving in to apostate or anti-JW propaganda...

Any guesses?

Thanks Venice.
Many of us are already rather familiar with Watchtower date-setting and predictions. I am looking forward to Greg Stafford's new book (hopefully arriving soon!) which will deal with all of these dates in an apologetic fashion. I'll bet it's much more interesting than Gruss' same-old same-old.

Here's your Nickel Go To Hell
by messenger ini remember the old witness joke about the pope going to heaven.
when he gets to the pearly gates they are locked and he demands entry.
the angel on guard says, who are you?

Thanks for posting that Watchtower. It helped reinforce my conviction that JWism sucks.
And as I read those anecdotes, I started getting the feeling that even the Watchtower writer wasn't too enthusiastic about the stories, merely reporting them that they happened. The magazines have lost all the charisma they used to exude.
