Good for you, Joelie. I used to be creative musically, before my injuries. Often times creativity is a lot more satisfying than mere analysis, no?

I often wonder, do crtics of the NWT ever read its Appenidices to find out why certain passages are rendered a certain way? I hear "the JWs have rewritten the Bible to suit their doctrines" all too often.

Buffalo, NY JW woman killed by stray bullet
by Cygnus in.
it seemed like a normal, tragic story, a hard-working mother who held down 2 jobs and all of her children went to college.. then the article says she was a devout jw.
i had to do a double-take.. http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20050818/1025447.asp

I dunno what page, sweetie, I read the paper online and it was under City and Region so I'm guessing it was on the front page of that section, usually B or C (A being the front page).

Becoming a woman...
by Rubyvixen ini remember when i was around the age of 10 or 11, there was a book that jehovah's witness parents used in family bible study that had two versions (one for male, one for females) or maybe there was one and it just had chapters and i am remembering wrong.
i do remember vividly having to endure the rather male dominated view of what happens when a young woman enters adolescence and what a young woman has to look forward to in her 'duties' as a loyal wife and mother serving her husband *gags*.
does anyone remember that?

From what I can (hazily) remember, there are 2 schools of thought on this topic.
One, that St. Paul was obviously a male chauvenist.
Two, that Paul was quoting rules and regulations that were being practiced by Judaizers in the congregations ("I" statements, and "not I but the Lord" etc etc being sort of like how we quote or copy and paste what someone previously said in a post and then respond to it) and then refuted them. To my knowledge, Joseph Malik and aChristian hold these beliefs and are better qualified than I to go into detail. Especially since I didn't sleep last night and now am seeing double.

UK Train Shooting - Murder by Police
by Simon init is clear now even with the details released so far that not only did the police murder an innocent civilian in cold blood for no reason but they also deliberately and cynically lied in an attempt to cover up the incident, possibly hoping they could get away with what they had done.. they now admit to firing 11 shots or more, not the 3 (?
) originally claimed.
all other details they originally put out also seem to be completely at odds with the truth - he was not wearing a heavy coat but a denim jacket, he did not jump the barrier, he did not run but saunterd and picked up a paper, he was not challenged by police.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but (I say that a lot these days) I have a sort-of funny story.
I installed a gas fireplace for Buffalo's Police Commisioner, Rocco Diina (what a great wop-cop's name). Well I had to go service it once, and I was there rather late. Rocco (yeah, I'm on a first-name basis with him, and got a "get out of jail free card" from him) asked me if he could turn the TV on, because the national news (forget which network) was having a piece on the crime rate going down, and they focused on Buffalo. Naturally, Rocco was interviewed. Well, they really goofed his name up on the ID at the bottom of the screen; they had it as "Rocko Dina." When the piece finished, I asked Rocco, "So what did you think? Was the piece pretty accurate?" He said yeah, they did a good job. I said, Too bad they didn't do such a good name spelling your name. He hadn't noticed the mistake, got red-hot and yelled: "WHAT?!? I told those motherfuckers if they screwed my name up I'd come back to New York personally and SHOOT 'EM!"

All I can say is, I'm glad not to be a cop, 'specially an urban one. It's a tough job. And, they have rules about how you look, and right now, since I have no secular, social or communal responsibilies, I have chosen to look rather foolish.
