Good times. I know what you mean when you say you miss that scene. I was heavy into the bar/nightclub/music scene in the late '90s but hardly ever go out anymore (one reason of course is I quit drinking... damn that heart procedure). I really dig seeing pics from posters so send more when you get 'em. Oh, also, my condolences on your upcoming nuptials.

thinking positively - what is the best thing that happened to you or ...
by Crumpet in.
that you accomplished in the last 24 hours?.
i ask becase i just keep reading lots of gripey posts (with good reason for sure, but i wanted to hear positive stuff no matter how mediocre or ordinary it might sound).. so tell me what was your highspot?

Cygnus
Hmm.. not too much positive happens for me these days.
I would say my father calling yesterday to see how I'm doing, and something recent I started doing: telling him I love him at least once before hanging up.

Well today is the day
by outoftheorg intoday at 3 pm i will take donna to the hospital for her examination.she is putting up a good front but i can tell that she is really scared about the possible outcome.. being a nurse for years, one gathers up a lot of knowledge and she does know a lot about the body and its failures.. she is scared and i am terrified.
her three sons and family will be there also.
so i won't be alone.. my few children in this area are still jw's and do not give a crap about me or donna being ill.. so they won't be there.

I'm so sorry. I had to have open heart surgery at age 30 to replace a valve. I wasn't scared until they wheeled me into the OR. I silently prayed that I'd wake up. Of course no god answered my prayer. The surgeon I had is one of the best in the country.
Enough about me. I hope Donna manages well and stays as comfortable as possible. My father has gone through a type of chemo and is riddled with illnesses and he's only 60. I hate it. We should be so far advanced, medically, by now. Our great great grandchildren will look back at our time and view radiation and chemo as evil, open heart procedures as butchery, simply sitting and waiting for radial nerves to grow back like I'm doing as medievalism. I'm definitely with anybody's campaign to move ahead with stem cell research and genetic decoding so doctors can save our lives without cutting us open or making us sick.

Dont be so hard on satan
by gringojj ini think people forget that satan was a creation of god, just like all of us and everything else.
obviously god had a purpose in creating satan.
god has love for everyone and everything, including satan.

Why is that chilling? I think of all the crap I used to believe -- for instance, that the heavens needed to be "cleansed" of satan before Jesus could be installed as king, and so he was hurled down to earth, but he's not really on the planet, just kind of around, and not omniscient cause even Jehovah isn't, but he's always there ready to tempt you! ..and he's behind all the worldly governments, trying to even mislead the Governing Body! .. but Jehovah offers protection. Until jehovah puts hooks in his jaws and makes him start the great tribulation, which is gonna be hell on earth, even for JWs, until the celestial phenomenae start and Jesus kills everybody. Then JWs will conduct a massive worldwide burial work of all the bones of their former workmates, classmates and neighbors, after the birds are finished picking out their eyeballs and innards. Un-freaking-believeable.

tetra, I find myself agreeing with you more and more. Ain't that scary? Some JW just emailed me and told me I should be following Jesus' example and I replied that Jesus called a woman of another race a dog, his best friend "Satan," and that evidently he was hard of hearing or just an idiot because John records the disciples asking Jesus "where are you going" twice, and then Jesus complains that 'nobody asks me Lord, where are you going?' You're right, it's bloody 2006, how does anybody with enough intelligence to have the internet and work a computer still believe in ghosts, demons and angels?

El Oh El, a JW just emailed me complaining the usual crap, that I'm bitter and angry, and should follow Jesus' example and not criticize people for their spelling and grammar, especially since he/she is a former English teacher! JWs are miraculously out of touch.

beliefs I thought were unique to JWs because they had holy spirit
by demeter inthis forum rocks.
i like it very much.. i want to talk about something that i have noticed since leaving the jws.. i thought the ideas about the millenium, armeggedon, invisibility of christ's presence, etc were inspired as truths given only to the anointed to pass on to the faithful witnesses.
the parousia idea was an idea borrowed from a preacher named miller when one of his apocalyptic prophecies failed to come true.

Christadelphians and WWCoG Faith of Abraham are nontrinitarian, soul-sleepers, believe in an earthly paradise. Early Bible Students had very different ideas on end-times and the ransom doctrine. Although it's rarely talked of, Baptists and BACs of the Robert Bowman ilk believe that the earth under Christ is man's destiny. The orthodox and catholic churches affirm the resurrection of the body and believe nobody went to heaven until Christ. I had been told differently by JWs on all these points.

My Personal Ad - Update 11/4 see end of post
by Cygnus insorry i had to start a new topic but the board's software is not allowing me any replies and with all the newer people here they might want to get to know a little about me.. i was raised in a jw household that wasn't terribly strict, but strict enough where i had no worldly friends and wouldn't even consider college or extracurricular school activities.
baptized at 17. that and getting married just after turning 20 stunted me emotionally and i'm still recovering, though i think i'm doing an okay job.. started working in my father's business and pretty much took it over when he retired and moved to florida in 1995.. quit associating with jws in 1997 at age 25. jw wife left me on the advice of the elders, but she came back 5 months later.. grew my hair very long and pierced my ear.. in spring of 2000 two elders came to my house under the pretense of inviting me to the memorial.
" they then informed me that the real reason they were there was to serve me notice that a judicial hearing was being scheduled and i was asked several times to either attend or put something in writing that i was no longer one of jehovah's witnesses.. i chose to attend the hearing.

Sorry I had to start a new topic but the board's software is not allowing me any replies and with all the newer people here they might want to get to know a little about me.
I was raised in a JW household that wasn't terribly strict, but strict enough where I had no worldly friends and wouldn't even consider college or extracurricular school activities. Baptized at 17. That and getting married just after turning 20 stunted me emotionally and I'm still recovering, though I think I'm doing an okay job.
Started working in my father's business and pretty much took it over when he retired and moved to Florida in 1995.
Quit associating with JWs in 1997 at age 25. JW wife left me on the advice of the elders, but she came back 5 months later.
Grew my hair very long and pierced my ear.
In spring of 2000 two elders came to my house under the pretense of inviting me to the Memorial. "Thanks but no thanks." They then informed me that the real reason they were there was to serve me notice that a judicial hearing was being scheduled and I was asked several times to either attend or put something in writing that I was no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
I chose to attend the hearing. The charge against me was fellowshipping with a disfellowshipped person. My defense was mainly three instructions and statements from the Society: 1) the Flock book says that if a person has not associated for some time, the matter may be held in abeyance until such time that the person wishes to continue worshipping as a JW, and 2) a 1987 Watchtower which gave an experience of someone who committed a DFing offense but hadn't been associated for some time, so no judicial action was taken, and 3) the watchtower.org website said that persons who simply left the religion are not shunned.
I was told "the Flock book says MAY," "some alleged website is not our authority," and the 1987 Watchtower was simply dismissed as irrelevant.
This all was fine by me as I didn't care if I was DF'd. I even brought my DF'd friend with me to the Kingdom Hall. When the elders asked what he was doing there I replied, "He is here to testify on my behalf that under no circumstances does he ever associate with me at any time whatsoever." Which of course was silly cause we drove there together. The elders didn't find it amusing.
Anyway, aside from the JW nonsense, I like to think that I am the type of person who is a good listener, offers wise advice when asked, and will volunteer my time or resources to friends or family in need. Recently, I have become the person in need, as in June I was diagnosed with bilateral radial palsy -- essentially my hands, wrists and fingers don't work properly. So I've been unemployed for quite some time and am hoping I will qualify for social security benefits.
My interests are golfing, playing guitar, and watching hockey games (I live in Buffalo). Hopefully when the hands come back I can get my chops back too. I still have a passing interest in religion/christianity but it's purely academic. I would like to think life has a greater meaning than "70 or 80 years" but I have found nothing convincing.
I can be quite stubborn when I feel I'm right about something. I have also learned over the years that if a disagreement isn't going to kill anybody, sometimes it's best to just acquiese to the other party.
I have a relationship with a girl I met online quite some time ago and is registered here as caty, She's the most interesting, fun, smart person I've ever met.
I cherish all the friendships I've made since becoming internet-wise in 1/97. And I greatly miss those who I no longer communicate with.
What's a personal ad without pics? Here's me maybe 5 years ago with the Great Mullet:

i called bethel RE: voting...
by in a new york bethel minute in.
still not a conscience matter... although for the countries that demand that everyone register and actually walk in the booth to cast a vote, a witness may, if his conscience allows, register and go into the booth and add a new box labelled "jesus christ", then checkmark that box and vote for him... hahaha cool eh?!!!.

daystar, you yourself know that Jesus is referred to as a "lucifer" a couple of times in the new testament. :)
