Apparently No Christ-like Spirit at FTC Convention
by snowbird inmy 18-year old daughter came home after her first day at the convention in a foul mood.. she kept griping about this and that until i thought i was going to have to pimp slap the little heifer.
i guess all the talk about the internet and inactive ones had really gotten to her.. on a side note, my co-worker asked why it is called follow the christ.
she wanted to know how many christs are there.

Hello fellow southerner :)
Its kinda funny that we're glad she didn't have a good time -- but it shows that she's not a full fledged brainwashed "spiritually minded" sucker -- yay! (And i love your sense of humor)

One in five Americans thinks the Sun revolves around the Earth
by Illyrian innot intended to offend anyone but i found this article very interesting, if true this may go a long way in explaining why religion flourishes in many places across us of a. .
ny times article.

I agree -- the biggest problem I see is that people have no curiosity or yearning to learn more. If people were at all curious, they would want to know how the things around them worked. That would lead to not only a basic understanding of science but a yearning to learn more about things that affected their lives.
The point about trivia being evidence of a failed school system is exactly what I think.
Our school system needs to be concerned with teaching kids how to research and critically think. Making them memorize facts that they will forget is useless. And they need to be taught the benefits to knowledge. How many of us have heard kids say "I hate math. I'll never use this stuff in the real world." There needs to be a lot of "First I'm going to tell you why you need to know this and then we'll learn about it." Maybe then the kids would pay attention?

And by the way -- it was 98 degrees and no air conditioning to be found anywhere!!! I thought we might die! WHY on earth did they have to have this incredible heat spell during our stay? I was SOO looking foreward to cooler weather. It was actually cooler in Mississippi than Tahoe... I still can't believe it.

They should be getting the message out in more effective ways than door knocking but the GB doesn't want them to realize this. So the GB makes up some crap about angels "marking" to make sense of it all. This is all a ploy to keep them busy working -- and to keep them brainwashed into believing that people actually have positive thoughts about them.

For mother's out there...cleaning a son's bedroom!
by restrangled inmy son is twenty years old, a good kid, is doing great in college so i usually keep the door closed to his bedroom so i don't have to look.
today he took out a huge batch of laundry for me to do and the odor from that bedroom had me reeling.. here is my humorous but deadly serious post on the matter:!!!!!.
after vacuuming, enough dust to fill the entire dust bin in the vacuum.. enough change on the floor to keep him in fast food for a week.....(don't ask me for money).

And if it makes you mothers feel any better -- I was extremely messy as a kid and my parents through constant fits and it didn't help. I actually remember spilling a bowl of oatmeal and leaving it there until it was like dried glue in the carpet that she found one day. And I think my room had that same smell -- dirty socks/clothes ... dishes ... EEWWW!
But somehow I'm not like that now. I'm a little messy about leaving books out or my laptop laying around but never with dirty clothes or dishes. And I'm absolutely not cluttered at ALL -- everything has its place and its not in the corners. I'm also not a packrat. I don't know how this happened but I hoped it might give some hope. I think it was because my mom's house was very very neat and I was used to it and so neat feels comfortable.

I just have to say this -- My husband is actually neat. His mother said that she never had any trouble with him washing his clothes or MAKING HIS BED ...
I must find out this woman's secret for my future kids. And I think I could sell it for some serious cash .. LOL

Beautiful pictures of Tahoe, Emerald Bay and the Truckee River. Looks like you two had a great time.
We did -- thanks Mrs Jones (and R.F.)
And you knew exactly what the pictures were of! Oh I loved it and you were so lucky to call that home! I hope you get to visit real soon!
I have to admit thought that I'm very happy to be back home were we have grass and rain ... and lots and lots of green ... and MY VERY OWN BED! haha!
We did have an awesome time though!

Mormon lady shocked at JW disfellowshipping policy
by yaddayadda inwas talking to a mormon friend about the jw policy of shunning disfellowshipped persons.
she was pretty shocked to hear that jw totally ignore disfellowshipped ones, not even saying hello, even family members.
told her that you have to spend months attending their meetings to grovel your way back and the whole time no one talks to you, not a word.

I'm curious if this is really the truth about the Mormons. I know that you, yadda, are telling the truth but I wonder if the Mormon lady was being really honest about their activity. I know that JWs have a way of not telling you what really goes on.
I remember hearing that in Utah, its bad when you are DFed. There are a huge number of Mormons so if you are DFed, people stop buying from you if you are self employed or you can get fired if you work for someone else. But I don't know that first hand and my memory may be failing me a bit.
