  Does Debating Have to Be Abusive - To Be Effective ?

  my wife and i were having an interesting discussion about some of the debates that take place on the board here .

  now, granted most people , i feel upwards of 90 % on the board maybe higher try to be respectful in their debates or discussions on topics.

  i think we all had enough bashing in the witness organization.

  I submit that the simplest "guideline" for Internet posting is: Would you be willing to say it to the person's face?

  If not, then don't post it.

  If so, then consider the probable consequences.

  For myself, I've never been inclined to encourage "aggressive" posts (as I interpret such to be). Rather along the lines of "You can lead a horse to water..."

  That being said, sometimes such aggressive posts have compelled me to make correspondingly aggressive reposts...and those are the ones that bother me the most.

  My First Interview

  well, all that work on my resume has finally paid off.

  i just received a telephone call to set up my first interview.

  it's today at 1:00. if anyone has any access positive vibes or warm thoughts, i'd sure appreciate if you could send them my way.

  I'd say "good luck," but you already have luck (read "positive attitude" and seriously marketable skills) on your side.

  So I'll just say that I hope your potential employers have the good business sense to see the value that you would bring to their company.

  sometimes you meet people that care about you.

  then you find out they live across town!

  then you find out you have soooooo much in common.....we have lost pretty much all our "friends"......maybe we have moved.......maybe we are dfd.....maybe be we have been marked like me.......thank you jwd.....and changeling!

  Consolation on Demand

  i have a lot of consolation magazines that i could scan.. if you want a particular issue for research, tell me and i will scan it, and you can tell to the board more what are your research, so everybody will have more insight.. .

  here is one of this magazine concerning the madison square garden incident.

  this incident is connected with the olyn moyle's trial and it is interessant to see the vision of rutherford concerning this.. he tried in this magazine to excuse the usher, because what he said on stage was "the word of jehovah", so nobody must stop the "spreading of the word of god".

  I have it from a very reliable source that there are CD's getting ready to be released sometime during the next 6 months, for all the GA's, and perhaps also the Consolations.

  I also have it from another very reliable source that transcriptions of other similarly 'difficult to get' older WTS publications (post 1916) are being produced.

  Perhaps a coordination of efforts would be of value?

  P/m me, or any of the many others who have been, and are, involved with such endeavors, if interested.

  so i was bored and clicked on the little "big boards" thing at the bottom of the screen.

  you can get a lot of statistical information with lots of neat graphs there that're pretty interesting.

  for instance, here is 3 months of daily "unique" visitors to the site:.

  As "they" say: "Figures don't lie, but liars can figure."

  A couple of thoughts:

  1) I've read some sociological studies that intimate that "groups" of people tend to be clustered in quantities of less than 100. This makes a certain sort of sense to me, insofar as the vast majority of my own interactions with "groups" of people have been of approximately the same size, or less...whether it be the KH, or AA, or a "good business environment." Odd, that.

  2) I've also experienced, especially via the db environment, that 'willingness to converse' can oftentimes be intimidated by too many "old-timers" (read, perhaps, 'people with too many posts each day,' or, 'this poster is really too intense, and seems to know wayyyy more than me') dominating the conversation. It's not a bad thing to put our hands under our butt-cheeks and let those who have something new to say (even if it may only be new to them) to have their space and to say their say.

  i am so surprised about the latest new light about the generation, i was wondering if the views about how to treat a disfellowshipped person have changed over the years.

  this would be quite interesting to find out if there are some old publications that someone may have as proof

  Like stilla said.

  Up until the late 70s, it was pretty much hardline. Then it changed to "If you think you can talk them back in, then take your best shot." Then, in the early 80s, it changed back to hardline.

  LadyCCC, if you need written documentation, it is available...or was your question more of a "general" inquiry?
