a few months ago i resigned from my well-paying corporate sales job to pursue something that would satisfy my soul instead of eating it up.

i very strongly tend to be totally open and honest about how i feel and what i think.
SaintSatan: That reminds me of the couple years I was in AA. If we thought (suspected) that someone else might also be a member, we'd ask "Are you a friend of Bill?" A selective deception that served a purpose. Your point well taken.
Farkel: "Most people don't care about the truth, so LIE!"
So true, so sadly true. Nevertheless:
"It is a pleasure to stand upon the shore, and to see ships tost upon the sea: a pleasure to stand in the window of a castle, and to see a battle and the adventures thereof below: but no pleasure is comparable to standing upon the vantage ground of truth . . . and to see the errors, and wanderings, and mists, and tempests, in the vale below."

Got me into trouble with the WTS more than once, and quite frankly, I don't regret it. My brother has several times said "Craig, you just don't know when to keep your mouth shut."
imho, I'd rather run the risks of such honesty, as compared to the diminishment of my soul by doing otherwise.
What do you think?

with so much going on over here, do you think that newbies, lurkers, or potenial apostates could or do get scared off from this place?
if someone is on the fence and they want to explore the internet and are warned that all you'll see are disgruntled apostates, could these forums make them think the "faithful and discreet slave" is actually right?
Yet another thread abrogated by ozzie's!!!!
LOL
Downunderandout: Welcome to the board, mate!

some fundamentalists believe halloween is the devil's holiday.so are you doing anything on halloween?
Nope.
1. creation viewpoint: if one takes the bible literally, then it follows that all humans were vegetarian until the flood.
in fact, gen. 1:30 states that all creation ate vegetation.
one could deduce also from the bible that the carnivore/prey cycle is not god's original plan and that possibly it would be done away with in a paradise earth (isaiah somewhere).
Well, ya know, this has been a bit of an issue for me for many years. I still eat meat, but honestly, whenever I eat chicken, pork or beef, I can't help but think of the "farms" where most of those hapless creatures are raised in squalid conditions, hugely overpopulated, deprived of the most basic meaning and dignity of their existence. Veal is the worst (I've never had it, never will).
My feelings have nothing to do with evolution or creation, just simply the dignity of life.

Thank you, Gopher, for your unequivocal statement. I like/need to know where a person stands, even as I feel compelled to make it clear where I stand. Being totally open and honest is not easy, but it is the only way to be healthy.
inky: "I need nurturing, not negativity." I agree. But in my experience, what may initially be perceived as negative can actually be a positive, if only I leave my mind truly open to a differing viewpoint. Then, as has happened for me in this forum, I end up feeling nurtured, supported, and encouraged. Does take a little bit of "getting over the hump" though.
minimus: fwiw, I find many of your questions thought-provoking. I would, however, like to see more of YOUR opinions and experiences, rather than more questions.
Sincerely,
Craig

minimus: "did what we regularly do over here"
"We" who? I disagree with your generalization. Many many of us have chosen not to comment on several topics recently started here.
"not everyone is rude or profane"
Like going into a bookstore, you pick what you want to read, and skip past the rest. If one likes rude, profane literature, then that's their choice.
And, to be honest, I DON'T get what you are "trying to suggest." If I may be so bold, how about a straight-up answer from MINIMUS like: I suggest Simon and moderators get more restrictive! or, We should all grow up and behave like well-disciplined ex-JWs! or We mustn't forget that this forum is a surrogate religion that we must protect against disrepute!
