much to my delight, my oldest son has expressed interest in jwd and would like to post on the forum, i allow him to read pretty much everything anyway and am not too worried about what i know he will encounter here (ie swearing etc!

There is no specific age requirement, and, with parental supervision, there have even been a (very) few pre-teens who have posted.

Here's the only acknowledgement I could find in the WT regarding these changes:

However, the work of the translation committee (whose members remain anonymous at their request) was not finished in 1960. The NewWorldTranslation was first issued as a single volume in 1961, and this edition incorporated a careful revision of all the previous work. Since the 1961 edition contained no footnotes, a number of footnote readings from the earlier editions were put in the main text to conform more closely to the literal meaning of the original languages. A second revision, in 1970, took note of changes both in English usage and in the understanding of the ancient languages being translated. Over 100 words or expressions used in the 1961 edition were therefore altered. In 1971, the NewWorldTranslation was issued in a larger-print format with footnotes, and another revision of the text was made.

Actually, many decades ago, they were called Prayer, Praise and Testimony meetings, and the standard format was to let each member of the ecclesia (as they were then called) stand up and offer whatever it was they desired. As you can imagine, not exactly a tightly structured arrangement! LOL
Eventually [edit to add: in the 1920s] that morphed into what is now known as the Service meeting, which is a tightly structured presentation of how and what to do in the public door-to-door work. No spontaneity at all.
i would love to be able to show them to my husband so he can check them for himself since he thinks the only changes made were that the nwt is in a "modern language" he gets quite upset with me when he tells me he has read the bible front to back several times and i say "yes you have, but the bible you are reading has been changed from what the scriptures in other versions of the bible say" thanks in advance for any help with this.grammy

I was just talking tonight with Farkel about the g-jobbing. One of the things that happened when I was there was all the glass bottles and cans that we collected (I was a janitor there) went into 55-gallon drums. We filled like 10 a week. At first, they were just sent to a recycling facility, but then Lew (a prickly old Texan kid LOL) got the idea that we could sell that stuff and make some dough. So he hooked up with another friend of mine who worked in trucking, and every Saturday after the morning shift Dave would come around and pick up this stuff and cash it out for $100-200...easy money.
Then, after awhile, George Couch (the Home Overseer) found out what was going on...and he took over the operation.
And then there were the private jobs for local bros...work all weekend for all the beer you could drink.
imho....it all needs to go.
its influencing everything in this world every and anywhere.
from the saudies, to the people in irag, iran and anywhere else our sons will need to be sent.. our current president claims he is influenced along with the former prime minister of england by religious beliefs.. there is the huge evangelical influence that got bush and the mess he made who put them in to begin with.. we have the jw's causing absolute havic in anyone's lives connected with this stupidity.. it goes on and on and on.

As long as there is more than one distinct and coexistent being on this planet (human or animal or otherwise), there will always be conflict and hierarchy (read: religion, politics, and war, winners and losers). That is the nature of life.
there seems to be a lot of hostility on the board toward atheists still and a lot of comments floating around like atheists are to preachy.
well i want to take a quick minute and deal with some of these issues.
to begin with, to make any statement regarding atheists in general would be false for several reasons.
hs, sometimes you just chap my hide...but most of the time your logic is impeccable, as in this case.
(A bit of a back-handed compliment, eh?)
But, to the point of the discussion: I submit that theists are too constrained, and atheists are too constrained. Considering the nature of our very being (feelings, suspicions about life, the inability to fully communicate with any living thing outside of ourselves), I suggest that "logic" drives us to agnosticism.
