Salon.com article about Scientology

much has been discussed here about the similarities between jws and scientology.

when i read this article on salon.com, it brought home to me the methodology that all cults, including jws, use to indoctrinate believers.. http://www.salon.com/2015/04/17/secrets_of_the_scientologists_why_people_do_horrible_things_for_belief/.

its only after years of training, after they have told the church every private fact about themselves, that scientologists hear about xenu and humankinds alien origins.

wow. Direct parallel. In all of my dealings with my family yelling at me for being an apostate it always ends with the same thing at the end. "if its not the truth I have wasted my life". Its a strange admission, because everything else they say, 99% of the conversation is about bad mouthing me for not believing in god, and why the org is where its at, but inevitably, usually with tears, they make this admission. Basically all they have invested is lost.

People believe in Xenu and thetans because it becomes exceedingly difficult not to in light of all they have committed to the church.

So when I read this I hear that subtle admission they all slip into the cognitive dissonance rant. They are overly invested. its insane.

10 to find out why god allows suffering, we need to think back to the time when suffering began.

when satan led adam and eve into disobeying jehovah, an important question was raised.

At the very least it shows that God interfered to make sure they weren't ok without him. Brings up another question. If he ALLOWS suffering because he can't interfere to prove his point, why was it ok for him to interfere this way to MAKE SURE and prove his point. Double standard.

technically incorrect, but effectively he does .... if we're to believe the genesis account the serpent deceived eve and made her eat of the tree of knowledge.

it all went pear shaped from there on in, although most people believe it was an apple (boom tish).. but anyway .... either it was a literal serpent that could talk on it's own behalf or, as people typically believe, it was satan who was the puppet master and possessing the creature.. the first raises all sorts of questions that contradict the whole bible narrative (another creature that could reason, talk, debate existence and law etc...) so let's go with "the satan theory".. how does got react to his 'perfect' creation immediately being completely imperfect as soon as he takes it out of the box?

(he's like 0 for 4 ... satan, serpent, woman, man ... all break his rules).

Good OP I have had this exact debate with the wife many times, she was "deceived", it's not like she came up with some scheme on her own to try to be like god, it may have been wrong, but there was a lie before, and obviously the snake made a case, hell its a talking snake for YHWH sake!!! Some slack could of and should of been cut besides 6000 years of mass human suffering problems.

believing in christ through his words and not through evil religious cults, like hoj and jw, can and will save you.

I want to see this one, I haven't had a chance yet, but there is a good one on hulu too, kinda short called Scientology: Ex Files. Drink some scotch and mail the producers of this one as well!

Having Faith in the Bible

i know many on here have lost faith in the bible , is it possible that is because ones do not have the right perspective regarding it .

we have usually been taught by bad teachers , or ignorant .

i believe if we take an honest look at the bible , we will see that it gives us the best answers to crucial matters , it gives us some amount of bearings ( understanding ) , which without having such knowledge we would all be more like walking zombies in amanner of speaking , we would be lacking hope in something better , for surely something better is to come , how can we be sure , .

Moses did that, stood an pointed his finger at god, when they were worshipping the calf god said he wanted to kill them all and make a nation out of Moses, good ol' moses talked him out of it. I god wants to kill me for questioning how his book has represented him, I guess I am dead, but I don't want to live forever looking over my shoulder to see if I have somehow angered YHWH.

I hope nothing I have said has been an insult to you either William, but after 35 years of forcing my rationality down to swallow bible stories, I am a little raw when it comes to accepting this man made book.

Just because you find something good in the bible that if a man rapes a woman he should be killed, doesn't make it inspired of god, I am sure hitler and many other atrocious people had scruples with certain matters and even what we might call "morals". If hitler believed that anyone raping a woman should be killed would that make him good person or even god inspired???

There are good people with god, there are bad people with god, there are good people without god, there are bad people without god, only good people do bad things with god
