i find it hard to believe that adults on this forum make such a big deal about not celebrating birthdays, x-mas, easter, halloween, etc, etc, etc.

i grew up as a jw kid and it actually made me feel good, being different from the other kids in school.

we went to meetings.

I don't feel deprived, I just think its silly. I could careless not celebrating my birthday etc, but when someone says to you "happy birthday" or "merry christmas" to have to invest the energy to not respond to someone just trying to be kind is crazy, that bothers me. I don't feel I missed anything, but just to be nice back to someone and say happy birthday is just a small human kindness, nothing more nothing less. Putting so much thought and energy into avoiding something so nonsensical is a major component of keeping the cult members sedated to reality.

When you wake up fully from this witness madness, you realize that others accept and love you only based on who you are, and you do the same with everyone else.

Something that the witnesses or any doomsday cult look down upon strongly. But you suddenly realize you have wasted so much energy and love obsessing about nonsense.

You and I are on the same page. This may be on of the single biggest things that broke me out of this nonsense. I see it as so unnatural and so destructive.

A lot of "ugly" witness traits I believe are due to this internal pressure cooker. It turns people into police, and it makes them criticize themselves to no end while at the same time holding a high and mighty view of themselves and their org. Its a paradox of I am lower than scum, but the best in the world. The judgement of behaviors and little JW rules makes people insane. They are not the only, the same thing happens in other groups. The amish do the same thing, everyone becomes busy bodies policing and enforcing nonsensical man made rules.

You and I should speak more on this. its not a doctrine thing, its not a dogma thing, its a underlying deeply psychological byproduct of this cult. Think about people who are homosexual and are forced by them selves and external pressure around them NOT to be what they really are. This has to cause deep pain and difficulty. From major things like this, to subtle things the witnesses write off, like length of F%$#ing sideburns, conditions witnesses to invest their time, energy and mental power into nonsense that poisons them from the inside out. Behind a facade cult smile.
