Bible Rules on Netflix

started a history channel series on netflix last night called bible rules.

first episode was interesting.

in one part is was discussing stoning (which was not exclusive to the people of the dessert god).

Yes the stoning they suggested was not to show loyalty towards the persons wrong doing, but to show how you would be loyal if the city was attacked etc, totally power/control/political. So how is disfellowshipping any different? Its not some enlightened spiritual form of justice, its bronze-motha-f&%$ing-age control.

_Morpheus They also mentioned a scripture (i need to find it) where the moabites or someone sacrificed a child and the Israelites lost a battle. Looks like the desert god recognizes the effectiveness of child sacrafice.

Something they strongly emphasised was how there were a lot of ways to kill someone. Yes this was barbaric but there was another factor to it as well. It demonstrated your loyalty. Sound like disfellowshipping? Everyone gets to participate this way they can show their loyalty to the religious leaders and group. Vicariously representing some diety.

People should learn more about the Bible flaws

i have noted that the main problem for those who are seduced by the watchtower society is their ignorance about the bible itself.

people who believe that the bible is the word of god usually ignore the studies on textual criticism and how scientific criteria forbid absurd stories like that of the global flood.

so, i strongly believe that students in schools need at least an obligatory course on "the bible" through the point of view of science and the textual criticism.

I agree with you. That was what woke me up. Weekly bible reading. Then questioning and researching, the realising the witnesses have molded the bible into a witness world. If you were raised in this is what you believe.

This is why I believe Caleb in floroda has some of the best info for crushing witness fantasies about the bible. I am a huge critic of what's in the bible and how dangerous it's ideas cab be. But people don't realise what it was and leave it like that as a cultural artifact of story telling and not the word of THEIR almighty god

I was raised in as well. Don't consider myself that unintelligent, but it took me 30 years to get courage to be rational. I can relate to what you have posted here. One day I was watching some middle east atrocities, and I thought to myself, "if witnesses knocked on my door, would I even answer it? or would I straight up tell them get the f%$# off my porch? I probably would never even entertain this mess, so why was I in? It turned the key for me to question absolutely everything and give myself of the opportunity of coming in the truth instead of being raised. And I found it all to be utter crap.

July 19th Watchtower Summary. Insanity

just got back from the wt study and it overall was just so blindingly biased and leading.. i had to read it from the platform too, i hope they couldn't see the confounded look on my face as i read this craziness out!.

first we consider the faith of abel, enoch, noah, abraham, isaac and jacob, and moses.. all of these people are held up as sterling examples of blind faith, with the article pointedly saying that their imaginations sustained their faith in gods promises for them.

no mention anywhere at all that all of these characters saw and talked to angels, spoke to god himself, saw and performed miracles, or any of the other feats experienced by these characters.

Crazy guy, I think you are correct.

JWS were always a cult, but its not my grandpas cult anymore. I feel they are going through a shift and its causing them some identity crisis. They are trying to preserve membership while finding their new identity. The message is less dogmatic, and more emotional and topical while the cult tools are still strong.

Where is today's revelation book???

How much damage has internet done against the The Watchtower Society ?

in the beginning of internet the society was worried about the information published exposing its falsehood.

The "dangers of the internet" they've protested about were not dangerous to the member. They were dangers to then. And the dangers were not porn, etc. It was knowledge and truth. Any group describes knowledge as dangerous is in fact themselves dangerous.

the title is what a person today told me as i was explaining the changes i've seen and made in fading from the watchtower.

he got a smile on his face and asked that question about watch towers being manned with men in guns to prevent people from escaping prison.

man, i never thought about it like that, but he nailed it with such a simple observation.
