  In the mean time, the divide between rich and poor will exponentially worsen, and the middle class will continue to shrink over time regardless of if we elect Democrats or Republicans.

  I'm afraid this is all too true. The fact that the great middle class choose to vote against their own self-interest is becoming increasingly unimportant as it becomes increasingly inevitable. It is like a bunch of guys going into a bar and ordering drinks - until finally the bartender says, "You guys have a big tab - time to pay up." The guys with money pay up - the guys swept up in the comeraderie of playing with the big boys can't pay their share and their new "friends" are suddenly strangers. Republicans - hah! They have gamed the middle class and the poor into voting for them. Once they're elected - sayonara, suckers!

  but, i've often wondered why folks feel the need to post their departure from this board.

  they're free to leave or fade, etc.

  It used to seem "attention grabbing" to me, too, and therefore annoying. (The ones who are somewhat irritating are those who infer that they are superior to those who choose to stay here year after year because they are losers who can't move on.) Then I just decided it is no big deal and let go of feeling one way or another about it. Just take it at face value and say good-bye and best wishes.

  we bees leave for our trip this afternoon - a river cruise from budapest to the black sea.

  everyone on the ship is a tandem cycling couple.

  we will visit hungary, serbia, moldav, romania, austria, germany and croatia.. it will be a nice break from politics and the world news since we don't watch much tv on these trips.. hold down the fort - see you in a couple of weeks!.

  I have never experienced medical school, so I have no clue what it's like, but it seems that the pressure is so intense that it causes some students to crack.

  Could be. There is also the fact that certain mental illnesses develop in the early twenties - bi-polar, schizophrenia, etc. A friend's daughter had just graduated university when she began exhibiting odd behaviors and physical manifestations of a rare disorder. She lived in a group home and died of choking a couple of years ago at age 30.
