Unbelievable Experience in Yearbook
by gingerbread ina number of years back i heard a story of a young girl in a congregation ( i have some good friends in this hall ) who had an amazing field service experience.
it was so amazing that it was retold in the 2007 yearbook!.

payback? bitterly upset....
by losingit ini don't even know where to start.. more than anything, i'd like to say that i am not a woman of vengeance.
i am very much a forgiving person.
if you say "i'm sorry," and you're genuine, i can move on from it quickly and easily.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
the courage to change the things I can
and the wisdom to know the difference
All that other stuff can get you into a lot of trouble you don't need.

For all my Liberal/Progressive Friends
by Jomavrick ini am going to be unplugged while i gallivant around europe for a while, which means there will be one person short of holding up the conservative banner on this site.
so you can all pile on your leftist views of society, obama, health care, benghazi, irs, union thugery, socialism, redistribution of wealth, racism, sexism, gay marriage, right wing conspiracies, talk radio, fox news, wall street, the national debt, the educational system without my counterbalancing your neurotic views.
but i do love you non the less by brothers and sisters.

"The END is soooooo close"
by Phizzy ini notice reported in a number of posts that this seems to a bit of a mantra with the dubbies now, more so than ever in the past.. is this because they are getting desperate for the life they live as jw's to change ?
they don't really want to end their days with the constant drudgery of the jw life still going on, they want something different, but must "wait on jehovah".
sigh.. i wonder if this is a small opportunity for us to sow some small, niggling doubt, why not ask, when they spew out the "it is soooo close" nonsense:.

Any salesman conman can tell you that it is critical to create a sense of urgency in their pitch. You see it all the time - "must take advantage of this offer NOW," "limited time only!" "Must call in the next 15 minutes!"
Without the pressure of urgency, people would have time to stop and think. I've heard "soooo close" all my life from people who are now dead.

Corporate influence in the public arena
by Hortensia inhttp://www.citizenkoch.com/blog/entry/statement-about-public-broadcasting.
i've always considered public broadcasting to be a good idea that doesn't really work out.
the people who run public broadcasting are elitist and self-righteous, and they take money from huge corporations.

Rule 10: The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative. Avoid being trapped by an opponent or an interviewer who says, "Okay, what would you do?"
Reminds me of the Decision Points feature at the Bush library:
The strategy at George W. Bush’s presidential library for fending off criticism of Bush’s controversial – indeed criminal – decisions is to put a visitor on the defensive with the question: “Well, what would you have done?” The idea is to get the average person to sympathize with the 43rd president’s predicament and thus judge him more leniently.
So Alinsky's Rules for Radicals has been adopted and institutionalized by the right. Suh-weet!

I loved the Raj Quartet and there are a few short novels I have re-read (Catcher in the Rye, Brave New World) but I cannot imagine re-reading nearly 4,000 pages!
