  Overheard at the coffee shop...

  here's a bit of a story for you... .

  on the weekends, i go to a local restaurant/coffee shop and spend some time there reading, studying, taking notes, etc.

  i also get a light breakfast with my 6 to 10 cups of coffee.

  People that scream race are the real racists. As Dr Manning has said - "Black people have no honor." Their public figures act like pimps, whore mongers, thugs, criminals, and carpet baggers. They are a disgrace to memory of Dr King and all those suffered so much. How many more Dennis Rodmans, Michael Vicks, Tiger Woods, Al Shaptons, Jesse Jacksons, abortions and crack-head babies is it going to take?

  Kirk Cameron has just found another way to make money off of show business. Slick. He's exploiting his 'celebrity' and people's vulnerability and gullibility to make a buck.

  Do you make your own soup?

  greetings, soup lovers:.

  i have a huge kitchen at my disposal (not my own); vegetables, cans of this and that and spices are scattered about, prepared to go into a cauldron of minestrone i started a few days ago.

  i'm preparing ahead so as to freeze the leftovers to heat up later at home over my hotplate.. nothing like a 6-burner gas range to simmer over!.

  Mr Bee is a chicken noodle soup man married to a 'homemade-soup, no-cans-thank-you girl.' But the one soup I will not be without is Chicken Tortilla.

  I make this is quantity for freezing and the basic elements are - McCormick Taco Seasoning, and substantial garnishes.

  Make a basic veg soup - chicken broth, celery, onions, carrots, zucchinis, green beans, corn, tomatoes, blah blah. Fresh chicken if you wish, but a can or two of quality chicken breast is fine. Now, beans of any kind - pinto, black, kidney - any and all. Then, chiles - fresh, Anaheim, jalapeno, whatever. Now, a generous portion of McCormick Taco Seasoning - a must. Surprisingly, it is not very salty, so you can use a lot and get your saltiness from the chicken broth.

  This can all be frozen in portions at this point. When serving, I garnish with some or all of the following: fresh diced avocado, shredded cheese, tortilla strips (I oil and sliver tortillas, salt and then toast), sliced green onions, chopped cilantro, and maybe sour cream.

  Tonight we got home from a 5-day golf trip (long drive) just around dinner-time. So I thawed a tub of this soup, added a few of the garnishes, and we were good to go in just a few minutes with a meal that we both love.

  US military adventurism could be an interesting topic to discuss, mP. Why don't you start a thread about it since you seem to have a lot to say about it?

  This thread, however, is about the tragic US Navy Yard shooting nothing of which indicates it had to do with US policies or that any of the victims were combat personnel. So far it seems to have everything to do with the all-too common scenario of a mentally disturbed individual shooting up his workplace. We need to investigate why this person's mental health indicators did not trigger the system to flag his behavior as potentially dangerous, and how he had access to guns.
