Je Suis Charlie
by Slidin Fast inthis incident in paris makes me feel absolutely furious.
yes i feel desperately sorry for the victims and their families no one should have to deal with that.
the thing that makes me feel absolutely incandescent though is the attack on freedom of speech and expression.

Toddler accidentally shoots woman dead in Idaho Walmart
by nicolaou ina woman has been shot dead by a 2-year-old in a wal-mart store in idaho.. .
the 29-year-old was shopping with four children in the store in hayden, when the two-year-old reached into her handbag and fired the weapon, shooting her dead.. initial reports suggested the woman was the boy's mother, but the police have said that this is as yet unclear how they are related.. source; http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/toddler-accidentally-shoots-woman-in-idaho-walmart-9950847.html.
i've nothing to add to my past comments on americas psychotic relationship with guns.

police officials reviewed the store's security video, they determined the incident was an "accident", not a result of being "irresponsible".
I think in police terminology the word "accident" probably has a legal meaning of "unintentional," whereas the word "irresponsible" has judgmental and moral ramifications. Police reports might be written using the former, but certainly not the latter.
Both are true - the killing was an accident, i.e., unintended, and the mother was irresponsible. She was careless - leaving a deadly weapon between herself and a child - apparently closer to the child. None of the known facts indicate otherwise and I would be seriously surprised if further investigation of this tragic but fairly straightforward incident reveals anything else. We shall see.
In the meantime, please don't chastise those of us who are genuinely heartsick and horrified by this appalling incident. Don't infringe my first amendment rights in service of your second amendment "rights."
In the meantime, NEVER underestimate a child's ability to mimic behavior he has seen previously demonstrated. Wise parents know this.

3) her child obviously got into her purse while she wasn't looking. Regrettable for sure, but it cannot be immediately labelled "irresponsible".
Why not? 'Scuse me, but if a parent's first responsibility is to keep their child safe from harm, this woman was woefully irresponsible. Her child is scarred for life, likely irredeemably. He killed his mother and will have to live knowing that he is responsible for that fact for the rest of his life. It beggars the imagination.
And I'd like to know why, every time one of these dumb-ass tragedies happen, we aren't supposed to point out the obvious stupidity of - well, in this case, a young mother shopping at Walmart with 4 small children - needing a f--king GUN in her handbag?
My despair is that a child of two years is now saddled with the weight of guilt and remorse that is beyond bearing. Because - freedom! Yeah, baby - gunz!

Encinitas Congregation Encinitas CA.
by exwhyzee inanyone from that hall?.
we attended a memorial for a long time friend there this past weekend.
it was my first time in a kingdom hall since memorial 2008. as per usual, the people were lovely but the message had gaps and left me feeling somewhat blank and cold.

life after the wtbts
by Hortensia inyou can't move forward to a new, more interesting, possibly much happier life, if you're still looking behind at the former life.. there is so much obsession on here about what the wtbts is doing, and discussing all the forms of injustice and bullshit in the wtbts, or how to bring down the wtbts.
yes, their doctrines are crazy and they are a cult and cruel to boot.
move on.

These "why don't you people get on with your lives?!" threads pop up here on a predictably regular basis. I always find them a bit presumptuous.

Way, way back (in my dad's time) COs were called "company servants."
Earnest prayers sometimes led to embarrassing syntax and perplexing visuals - "forgive us our falling shorts."

....those WHO think it is too late.........
Went to college in my late 30s/early 40s. Spent as much time on math homework as all my other classes put together. Though I didn't finish (too many responsibilities and no support) the LEARNING was invaluable. Helped me to get a job using my brain instead of my back. Best of all, I learned how to THINK.
We autodidacts can be proud, but a little higher education is a great discipline to broaden our horizons. Highly recommended.
