Posting smutty comments
by Simon init seems hardly a day can go by now without someone making a smutty comment and i really don't get it.. there is no need to interject talk of masturbation, sluts, gay sex or toys into every topic.
what are we, teenagers?.
please think twice before posting such comments.

Are You Interested In Religion Of Any Sort At This Point In Your Life?
by minimus inpersonally, i respect that everyone has choices to believe whatever they want to believe.
i have no interest in joining another religion....what about you?.

Nope. Unfortunately, because religion can play an important role in one's life. The WTS ruined religion and everything related to it for me.

Religious Fundamentalism and the fear of Education and its results
by designs inwe experienced this phenomenon first hand and the rationale that went with it- the evil world and satan are out to destroy our minds and faith.. for many of us it meant no college, no institutes of higher learning.
no careers in the sciences and other fields which required university degrees.. our country is deeply divided along religious lines with proponents of the bible and quran holding to claims long disproven by science.. a terrible news story came from afghanistan today- road bombs killed six children.
we hear of this many times, way to often, but here the story takes a sadder turn.

Found this gem in a coffee table book from 1947
by fresh prince of ohio incontext was a discussion of anti-war groups.
the caption for the pic described the jws as "pathetic" (probably reflecting the victorious postwar mood).
outlaw could probably have some fun incorporating this pic into his comments!

He died decades ago, worn out from a virtual entire adulthood preaching and proclaiming the nearness of the end. Sad.
Sad indeed.

I personally think he used the WTS rules & JW obedience-obsession to maintain control over us.
Good point, gorgia2. WTS rules and punishments allow parents a bit of a pass on actually engaging their children and guiding them through the difficult transition to adulthood. I recall my parents giving a stern look and pointing to the society as the ultimate authority - no questions allowed, only blind obedience.
But blindly compliant, coerced children should not be the goal of parenthood - it should be about raising good people who can think for themselves and have access to the resources they need to make good decisions.
Perhaps James wants to be sure his kid avoids the pitfalls of the teen years - drugs, pregnancy, gangs, crime, etc. - but the fact is, without a reality-based upbringing, other pitfalls await: a bad marriage, lack of education and job opportunities, and bitterness. And regret and resentment - some of which can be seen in this thread's posts.

Morals, ethics, principles - usually stem not from a set of rules and threats, but from respect for oneself and respect for others.
I never found that JWs instilled that type of respect.
Like most cults, they first tear down the individual in order to rebuild them in the desired image. You're constantly told you're not good enough, not doing enough, always falling short of the mark. Your natural desire for friends, recreation, school, learning, entertainment, and your natural curiosity about the world around you - all the things that build self-esteem - are thwarted at every turn and you're made to feel guilty about even having those desires.
They teach suspicion, distrust and avoidance of everyone else in your life - they cut off the "exits."

I left the organization in my early 20's and found myself very ill-prepared for nearly every aspect of life due to being raised as a JW. I had no real social skills, I was too trusting, naive, lacked critical thinking skills, had no goals or aspirations.
College helped somewhat, but I was still developmentally way behind. I lacked self-confidence, was needy, and painfully shy. No wonder I married the wrong person - I was still developing and ended up being quite a different person than he expected.
James, there must be a better way to instill values than bringing up a child in a regressive cult. Are you sure that is your true motivation? Search your heart.

Evolution is Crap, there I said it!
by Crazyguy inok i started another thread and every one jumped on me because i was trying to take the theory of evolution out of the mix and most here seem to believe in it so i will just say it.

Yes there is evidence of animals etc. making changes over time but where is all this evidence of creatures trying to evolve one way and it not working out and they die surely there should be a tons of evidence of creatures trying to evolve and it doesn't take.
C'mon you guys! How can you argue with logic like that?
