Thanks Hortensia for the kind encouragement! My publisher is Storey Books, and my book is on knitting socks on straight needles. I can't announce it yet- they haven't given me the go ahead but I've noticed place holders on Amazon already. Search "socks on straight" and you'll probably find it; although the marketing dept may decide to change the name again before they're done! I think how-to books must be one of the hardest things to write; it was so much work to make sure all the technical stuff was correct- still catching some minor things even now. But soon it will be out of my hands and at the printers for better or worse.

Are you a writer?
by Hortensia ini think that at least a few of you are writers, maybe more.
i mean honest-to-god working-for-money writers, writers with a small "w" rather than a capital "w." my experience is that writing is a lot like theater: a few stars at the top making the bucks, a middle level with lots of people who work hard and don't make much, and then a lot more hopeful people at the bottom who are trying to make a living writing with no luck so far.. tell me about it.
what kind of writing do you do?

I have a knitting book in the process of being published, worked on it by myself for a couple years before I realized I had something viable to submit and was shocked when it was accepted first try. Publication release date is set for June 2013. Organizing my thoughts to start work on another one soon.

I'll be 52 this year, raised as a JW. I registered four years ago but not in time for the presidential election. This will be my first time voting for the president. Faded, drifted without notice, still not DF or DA. Giving it some thought this year.

JWStruggle Apostasy Trial Videos Questions
by turtleturtle insome questions for jwstruggle's apostasy trial videos:
1) what the heck happened with your marriage?
why did your wife divorce you?

I have to comment on the fact that it seems more prevalent these days for mates to divorce on this issue. When my husband (Ironclaw) walked away from JWs I was well aware that he might/would get DF but in my mind that did not free me from my marriage no matter how upset I might be with him. I honestly never had that thought cross my mind. He was the one that left temporarily (I even helped him move), but I believe he needed to get his bearings and we got back together. I thought it was a bit odd for an elder to suggest that I had been called to peace when he moved out. I was not aware of this trend. The publications made it clear, at least in the past, that DF did not dissolve the marriage bonds. So, I really do not know how this is being justified now- are all these divorcing mates fully cognizant of the fact that they will not be "free to remarry" unless the assume that being DF or appostate means you are so sinful you'll take care of that problem shortly for them?
I am very grateful that I did not take this course as we are very much closer now and my entire family is now out. We choose to be Christian but have not joined another church at this time. I like going to church and listen to christian radio (certain pastors more than other- some are fruitcakes!) and feel so much more interested in my Bible. But without the JW rules that seemed to constantly put strain and division in our house.
I'm very sorry that this happed to you, Eric, as it could have gone (and should have) very differently.

Help: Been Disfellowshipped for 6 Days
by weskerbouts insix days ago, on the 24th, the announcement was made.
the prior 3 weeks were an 'interesting' time after having come forward about my sin (problem).
(i have an addiction to pornography.

First, let me say that I am not condemning you for your problem. I would advise you to get serious about adressing it. Why do I say that? Because my sister dealt with her husband for 28 years and his addiction to porn and then getting her to dress up and act it out for him. It damaged her emotionally, alcohol was the only way she could deal with it. He was an elder, and an elder's son. Both their sons are also addicted to porn. And I'm not talking about extreme types of porn. They just can't stop.
Porn separates you and desensitizes you and makes it difficult to connect to a significant other and see them as a real person. For that reason I would strongly encourage you to do something about it. The possibility of you ending up alone is very real. My sister divorced that man and is on the other side of the country. She is an acoholic, struggles with guilt and shame. She sought help and was told to be a better wife and then he would be a better husband. So she takes a lot of the blame on herself.
I'm sorry if this is not popular or what you would like to hear. I'm sorry you are going through a bad time. I wish my brother in law had gotten DF, I really do. But he will never get help because he has never really had to suffer the consequences of anything he's done.
After all that is said, welcome to the forum. I do think you can find a lot of support and good advice here. But the only one who can make things better for you is yourself. I wish you the best.
