i understand that a lot believe that micheal and jesus are one in the same some believe that jehovah and jesus are one in the same some believe that one is the son of god yadda yadda yadda.. would some of you please address or post your reasons for believing that micheal the arc angel was not gods first creation and why he couldn't be the one sent to us to be born as a man and become our savyor?

why would he not have another name fitting his role as a man on earth?

he obviously wouldn't be living on earth as a child growing up as an angel.

Intriging thought you just made. Once upon a time, I formulated a thought that God was a superior alien being, not necessarily a spirit, but the accumulation of life from a distant place (sort of like an ET type, I guess). When I first heard about the thought of cloning, that intrigued me too as it would tie right in to my thought of life being created here by distant space travelers.

Of course, seeing many shows over the years where ancient persons depicted space travelers and space ships (of a sort) in their drawings helped me to think this. Of course, JWs ridiculed these thoughts, but reading your comments on DNA brought the memory of this period back to me.

This thought could way outside of your questions, though. It was just nice to remember a thought I held long ago.

A note for aChristian. I doubt too many here are still wearing JW glasses. Just becuase we may see and agree with some of their beliefs does not constitute being misled by them. May I recommend you remove the glasses of traditional orthodoxy and then view the Bible. One thing I have been striving to do of late is to view the Bible from the perspective of the Jewish thought, since it was written mostly by Jews. I find that it makes a lot more sense than viewing in light of 20th Century Christian thought, which I feel has perverted many scriptures to fit their doctrines.

Either way, good luck in your search and on your journey.

One final thought. If our souls go off to heaven, why does every church teach Matthew 5:5, The meek shall inherit the earth?

Feel free to email me any questions anytime. I don't have the answers, though, just my opinions. I wish for everyone else to formulate their own opinions on things, whether any agree or disagree with me. That is a freedom we didn't have with the dubs.

Hi Heaven,

To me, the main scriptural support for the trinity come from translations with a trinity twist. By that, I mean the translators put their own bias into their work, Yes, the dubs did the same thing with their NWT. That is why I have never relied on any single translation, not even when I was active.

I never used the NWT until I became a JW myself. In fact, I had never even heard of it before. So, all of my preJW research was used with mostly the NIV, KJV and such. The main attraction of the dubs to me was their denial of the trinity.

Going back to Michael, even though I think Jesus and Michael are most likely one and the same, to me it really doesn't matter. My salvation will not come because I think Jesus to be Michael or even if he isn't. However, I do think worshipping the Son before the Father, which is how I see the trinity belief, could very have an effect.

This is not a point that I feel I should argue you or anyone else into sharing with me, just the way I see it. Whether or not it has any effect and whether or not there is even any salvation is left up to powers far above me.

ok i know what you are going to say.. so dont say it.

just bare with me here.. i really really need to compile a comprehensive list of doctrines or .

teachings that the watchtower is currently holding that is wrong.. can you try to be objective?.

Theologically, I think they have a lot of truth, but they sure don't have it all. Below is a list of where I think they are either dead wrong or at least off base.

1. Only JWs go to heaven
2. Blood transfusions block ones entrance to heaven
3. The whole cross/stake argument is a waste of time.
4. Door to door preaching mandated by Jesus
5. Meeting attendance is a bible commandment
6. The elder arrangement
7. They are the "truth."
8. Disfellowshipping and shunning
9. Their history of wrong predictions shows they are not God's sole channel of communication, if he uses them at all!
10. Having a special day (holidays) means losing salvation

That is mostly what comes to mind right now. I know there is more, but just can't think of them right off the top of my head.

This may be a bit whacky to most of you, but for me, it is Peter, Paul and Mary's Leavin On A Jet Plane. The reason is that when I was leaving Vietnam for good (after my second tour) it played on AFVN radio as we were heading out to get on the freedom bird (airplane). I knew that once that plane lifted off I was free and had survived.

what does the watchtower teach that is right.

could you please bear with me for a second here.. this organisation cant be all bad even though overall it is.. .

most of you may reluctantly hold the opinion that every thing the watchtower currently teaches isnt all bad so could you please give your honest opinions as to what you think is good about the org.. so what is there that can be said about it and its teachings that is good.. especially about prophecy.

I have to agree with them on the doctrine of the trinity. I have never in all my 53 years believed in it or accepted it. I have done an extensive search for it and did not find it. I see where others have accepted it, mostly on blind faith or misinterpretation of the Bible.

What I find most sad is that although they share my views on the trinity, the average JWs is ill prepared to explain why the trinity is wrong. Most never got past the trinity brochure. There are much better resources debunking the trinity than that.

The doctrine of the Trinity is supported Biblically in numerous places and I would be pleased to list them if interested.

Sorry, RWC, but the trinity is a lot of bunk. I hate to have agree with JWs on something, but I knew the trinity was wrong many years before becoming a JW. Even as an ex, I see no reason to embrace what I feel is the single biggest lie perpetrated on Christians.

I really have little or no desire to engage you ina trinity debate, but will if you really wish. Be forewarned, I have spent some 50 years reading the Bible and have delved even deeper into the translations than most JWs ever thought. I do not rely on Watchtower material to guide me in my search, but have found extensive evidence and articles, from mostly nonJWs, that show the falseness of the trinity.

An excellent book written by a nonJW you might seek is "The Doctrine of the Trinity, Christianity's Self Inflicted Wound," by Anthony Buzzard. This man taught the trinity at acollege level for some 20 years or more. Doing his own research, he discovered the falseness of the trinity and now teaches against it. His book is readily available through Amazon.com. I'd loan you my copy, but still refer to it for research.

I have been reading and researching an interesting thought that Jesus/Michael had absolutely no pre-human existence. It is being put forth by Anthony Buzzard, a professor that wrote the book, The Doctrine of the Trinity, Christianitys Self Inflicted Wound. So far, I have cooraborated his notion, but am still looking.

For me, I believe Michael and Jesus to be one and the same, but am keeping an open mind about it, as I discover new evidence. I wrote a short paper years ago addressing this issue based on comments from the Catholic Encyclopedia and comparing them to the Bible. If I can find it again, I'll post it.

But right now, I have to get back to work, lunch time is over.
