i've been "cruising" the boards for two months now, and there appears to be a lot of very knowledgeable and "cool" individuals here.. i recently embarked on a introductory bible-study with the jws in my area.
i know that probably isn't music to most of your ears, but rest assured that i'm not remotely sold on their theology.
nor am i blind to the past scandals and current issues of the wtbts--i've read about four different scholarly works about the society.. i was raised as a lutheran, and i've had a decent amount of bible-schooling in the lutheran denomination.. my questions to you, those who would know, are these:.
The term "Bible study" IS just the hook to mislead people who don't know.
You will study watchtower magazines and books, NOT the bible.
The Books are a means of MIND CONTROL, you will ENDLESSLY do that until you will accept everything that they produced in their brains.
If they tell you that NIGHT is DAY you will believe that. AS people, EXJW, they know. This is commercial enterprise with religion as a Front Store.

i have always wondered why it cost so much to "rent" the space used for local special assembly days and circuit assemblies.... in our case, the society built a large assembly hall, on donated farm land (= free), in the middle of some corn fields 20 miles outside of columbus, ohio... the property has a couple of apartments where some of the travelling overseers live, who help with the upkeep of the building.
cleaning the building was taken care of because of our "privilege" to go out the day before the assembly to get it in good shape (free housekeeping and maintenance work).. so, the society owns the building.
it was built on free land.
