absolutely marriage has to be equal between the partners. both have to respect one another and help raise kids, take care of the house, etc. there is no free ride for either. my ex husband thought that he had a free ride while i worked full time, paid all the bills, cleaned the house and did all the other wifely and motherly duties, while he sat on the couch and watched movies, had an affair and had his private life.

Marriage - Why bother?
by Spectrum inyet another friend's marriage has broken down(5th), this one i did not predict at all.
it came as a shock to me.
they got married after 10 years of living together so it's not like they didn't know each other.

Jehovah's Witness skating parties were da bomb!
by PaNiCAtTaCk inwas this just a local arkansas thing or were jw's everywhere getting jiggy at the skating rink?
we used to have awesome skating parties and witnesses from 150 miles away would come sometimes.
or sometimes we would drive that far to go to one.

What was the strangest or nicest experience you had at a door?
by Sheepish ini remember one lady who was so nice to us, she invited us into her foyer/porch area outside her front door where she had a huge owl that had come to hang out.
it was amazing to be so close to it, and we forgot all about the magazine offer!

someone dropped an egg from a second floor window, it hit my mother in the eye, and then threw eggs at her as she walked away.

i was cynical about marriage after i got divorced and was left with two young children, one five months old. never ever wanted anything to do with it again, besides, i had my kids a nice house and a good job, why would i want to be married again. then i spent 5 years with someone who felt the same way. well that ended because i knew i wanted someone to grow old with and i also wanted my children to see that marriage is not a bad thing. i'm not remarried yet, but have been dating an absolutely wonderful person who has gone through so much of what i did and it's a wonderful and happy relationship. we both have said we want to get married again but not for the sake of being married. i kind of feel sorry for all those jw's that got married a month after high school graduation and had babies by the next district assembly. they never got a chance at really living and seeing all that life and youth has to offer.

Can you celebrate your 100th birthday when you are a JW?
by blondie inas a devout jehovah's witness, mrs. merle is prohibited from celebrating her birthday.
but a week from tomorrow, relatives and friends will flock to the camoset village country living mobile home park in johnstown to attend a super bowl party that just happens to feature ice cream and cake.. "that's why we're calling it a super bowl party," explained her son bob merle, 73, who lives just five trailers down the road.
"we don't celebrate birthdays, but we have to celebrate 100 years," said mrs. mechem, 78.

Re: The "United In Worship" and "Worship The True God" books...
by sf inin a search i am doing on some related issues to the tort essay, i came across something i am hoping others may be able to either confirm and/ or shed 'light' on.. i am only going to paste the text:.
the "united in worship" book was studied before baptizm...it had a very harsh chapter on not taking blood even if you have to die...the new version has deleted that whole chapter!!!
the book "worship the true god" 2002 is the same except for this.

he was shoved by a parent during an argument which caused him to fall through the glass. the emt's wanted to administer medical treatment and get him immediately to the hospital, which by the way, was about 3 blocks from their home, the parents refused and made it very clear no blood was to be adminstered to him and to stop all medical treatment. the story we heard was that they tried to have him saved but did refuse any type of blood even the 'approved' substitutes at that time.

i must comment on the blood issue.
i was raised a witness and have absolutely nothing to do with them anymore. becoming a mother almost 13 years ago helped put so much in perspective for me. this new perspective had started to take shape long before that though.
something that has been on my mind quite a bit recently, was when my friend, david was about 13, my oldest sons age now, he fell or slipped and was cut extremely bad on broken glass from a skylight. his parents refused any blood for him, he died within a very short time. how can someone allow their child to die? how could the so called society allow children to die? so ironic that the story we were told was very different than the truth. i found out the truth of this incident because years later i dated one of the EMT's who was there that day. he was only about 16 or 17 at the time, but it had a lasting impact on him.
several years ago my mother was in a horrific car accident, i was watching my mother die before me because she was holding on to the belief of no blood still, thankfully my father (non witness) and i changed her mind. she would have needlessly died.

you don't sign anything. you answer the questions and then get baptized. at that time you are considered to be renouncing your previous baptism and all that went along with it.
