Try the old, "the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak" routine. You know, due to being under the weather so much, you are forced to pace yourself until the new system is here.

What happened in the 80's?
by Virgochik invarious posters have mentioned how get-togethers and fun times socializing were frowned upon and discouraged somewhere around the early 80's.
everything changed, as far as the picnics, the dinner parties, etc.
i vaguely recall some connection being made to parties and increased "immorality.

Yes, Juni, I do remember towards the end, some stern lectures about how these gatherings needed supervision and chaparones, bla-bla, along with watching closely who got invited. I thought something specific had happened in our congo. So, they eventually killed off all the fun everywhere, huh? I fondly remember fried chicken, punch, potato salad and horse shoes in the county or city park, some ball throwing, etc. Also, occasionally a hall would be rented for large congregation potlucks. And then there were the roller skating parties, they were a fun relief from all the Bible study! All a thing of the past, it sounds like! Those things created stronger bonds and friendships than a boatload of boring Watchtower studies, INMO!

Everything changed, as far as the picnics, the dinner parties, etc. I vaguely recall some connection being made to parties and increased "immorality." It seemed a more somber, all work and no fun mood took over. Since the early 80's are when I began my fade, can anyone relate whether the change in the atmosphere was due to new light in some new publication, or changes in official policy from Mother, since this doesn't seem limited to any one area.

It was a nasty color of salmon or orange and wasn't the cover embossed, or am I losing it? It was full of disturbing illustrations, too!

My account of a trip to the 1969 District Assembly
by RunningMan inwell, i've decided to try my hand at a different type of writing.
my atheist's book of bible stories is nearly complete, so i thought i would write the epic masterpiece history of my family, from the time that they came to canada until today.
i am calling the book "east of edenwold" (which is a small town in saskatchewan).

My aunt and uncle traveled from the midwestern US to a faraway assembly for their big summer vacation. They were going to a foreign country! So exciting, to a child. Would they bring me a souvenir? They attended the 1969 summer assembly in Vancouver, Canada and were fawned over by everyone from the Hall.

Getting married in the kingdom hall ( ..."have you had sex?")
by slimboyfat in.
we plan to get married in the kh in the autumn.
will the elders quiz us as to whether we have had sex beforehand?.

Excellent point, Sherri! Theocratic warfare includes not telling the truth to those who do not have a right to know! So, either fib, evade, or...go someplace pretty and befitting a lovely wedding occasion to get married. My husband and I dodged them all and went to a Las Vegas wedding chapel!

Hello from LadyLee
by Scully in.
i hadn't seen ladylee posting the last few days - it's not like her to leave without letting us know that she's going away, and i was getting worried, so i called her this morning.. she called me back... she's fine, but her computer is not.
it had a major crash a few days ago, and she's been trying to get it up and running ever since.. let's make sure she knows that she's missed!

Sometimes, I think a ray of light pierces through the mental fog and they smell a rat. But, they are elderly now, and all their lifelong friends go to the Hall, so I think that's got alot to do with them still smirking and trudging to meetings, to see their friends. It's something to get out of the house and go do.
