I remember an experience similar to tijkmo's. An obnoxious elder put it to a vote whether to buy new carpet for the Hall. He was red faced and sweating as the new carpet was narrowly approved. Why? Because he'd already gone ahead and bought the carpet, had it in storage, and his wife had picked out the color! He had really hustled up the votes before the meeting to make sure he got his way. He would've been out some money otherwise!

WTS Running Out of Money? Letter to all congregations...

) regarding donations.
se said it was long and boaring, but in the end there where a few points she remembered.

It was obvious all the time, but I never realized it, till LongHairGal posted this: The JW's actually have a paid clergy, just like the churches they bash, do! The crusty old coots in their suites with a view in Crooklyn are fully supported and fed, clothed and housed for free! Of course the crusty old coots don't want to lose that, so along comes another special need to advance the worldwide work, and another.
What are the Dubs getting for their money? More refried
beansbooks at assemblies, and the security of knowing these people are spewing forth Jehoopla's pearls of wisdumb as he whispers to them. Put them in a comfy nest, and they will tell you what's news from Jehoopla. Well worth feeding them for life, eh?Another example of how they are NOT different from the churches.

A recent photo of my cat Oreo
by lovelylil inwe brought his body home to bury on our property next to his brother cat that died about six or seven months ago.
we think he had an aneurysm and that is why he went out so fast.
he was a very sick kitty for six months.

What Are Unwritten Rules & Understandings That "Good" JWs Will Adhere To?
by minimus injt, made a very good point in a different thread regarding how witnesses follow unwritten rules and understandings.
for example, a witness may shun you----even though you're not disfellowshipped or disassociated.
because they know you're leading an immoral life or that you smoke.

Always purchase a four door Witnessing car, the frozen, Stepford smiles on the women, length of women's skirts and men's hair, not found anywhere in the Bible.

I don't know how I'm going to give them up...
by gwyneth ini bottle fed orphaned kittens from 3 weeks old--they are about 8 weeks old now.
i have become so attached to them!
my neighbor said she was bringing a friend over this afternoon to pick out a kitten to take home...i am having mixed feelings about this.

Gwyneth, you did a wonderful thing, helping those poor babies! I'm sure the local Humane Society has several more poor kittens that need foster homes till their new Moms and Dads come and adopt them! You could start something you might really enjoy!
My husband won't let me bring any more home. I have a tomcat I raised from a tiny kitten who literally goes up the curtains in a screeching ball of jealousy if he sees me petting another cat.

Meddling mother
by meems1000 ini've posted a few times on this site but really just like to read the posts.. i wanted to know if anyone can tell me about a book for teens that the dubs have.
my mother gave it to my 13 year old son and i'm really angry.
i have made it very clear i want nothing to do with those people and do not want my children exposed to it.

They'll probably laugh at the silly book and forget all about it. But it was rude and pushy of her to disrespect your wishes. She already knew you wouldn't want her doing this. What else will she do, behind your back, that's what woould bother me.

Fluff- Have you named your vehicle?
by serendipity ini was emboldened by elsewhere's post where he called his mini cooper "nancy".
the large glass of wine also helped me to make an admission.
many years ago, i named my car "sully" after the scrumptious character in "dr quinn, medicine woman", mainly to tease my daughter.

Remember Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?
I've always named my cars. We've got Vicky Volvo now.

Permanent Make-Up
by AudeSapere inpermanent make-up.
has anyone here looked into it?
are you happy you did it and how often to you have to have it touched up?.
-
Virgochik
I've thought about it, but the "permanent" part is scary. What if I come out looking like Tammy Faye Baker, lol? I guess doing lots of research, and having confidence your cosmetician understands exactly what you want is the key.
Is it really that much bother just to put on the makeup you are in the mood for, every morning? That way, you can change your look for whatever mood you get up in!
I could be talked into it, if I was very confident in the person doing it, and they could show me before and after examples. Can you find someone who is willing to show you proof of their skills?
Sounds like fun, keep us posted!

The JW dress code.....yuck
by JH inthis morning i took a long walk and happened to walk near by a small christian church.
and i could see them come out of the building after their meeting.
they were all dressed differently, some in clean sunday clothes, some in clean jeans, but no one in a suit like the jw's do.

Like James_Woods said, I agree most people are amazed at the silly outfits the Dubs go to the doors in. They look stupid getting all dressed up in formal looking suits when it's blistering hot, then claiming casually,"My companion and I just happened to be in your neighborhood today, chatting with the neighbors about world conditions..."
Then, in the winter, I'm sure people shake their heads about the foolish "Sister uniform" where the sisters go around shivering in dresses with frozen legs, just "in the neighborhood today" that's knee deep in snow and slush. I'm sure the apparent lack of common sense turns people off, as well as the suits, which scare some in poor neighborhoods into hiding, thinking it's immigration or welfare at the door in those suits.
If they weren't a cult, they'd be allowed to use their common sense and reasoning faculties, to dress appropriately and to not be required to appear in uniform, despite what the weather conditions or situation called for.

So far, I've gathered some useful tips! IP-SEC, a beer a day is supposed to be good for a person's heart, so you're on to something! Mysterious suggests shades to keep the eyes youthful, especially fashion shades, right?
