what's your sign baby? ;)
by freedomloverr inwhere we live is a very *new agey*, *earthy* area.
when i was a witness i never thought twice about my astrological sign or how it relates to anyone else.
here, people are always asking what my sign is and i've really been entertained by how i see patterns with people in my life and how i've noticed i'm actually attracted to certain *signs* .

Do you recall your "point of no return"?
by JH inwas there something special that happened, an event or maybe a deception, that triggered your point of no return as a jw.. .

I had moved into my first apartment with two room-mates. It just seemed so wierd putting on a modest Christian sister dress and hose when they were watching TV in sweats for the evening. I wanted to flop down on the couch, too! It's like pulling teeth to go to a meeting after missing several; you realize how much you hate them, and wouldn't mind never going to another one! I kept passing the entrance to the Hall and knew I just didn't want to turn in because nobody inside really cared about me and I didn't like them either. I never went back!

Take good care of yourself physically, too. When I was in your shoes, sitting at meetings disgusted me to the point of nausea and headaches. I had to go along with it till I could get a job and an apartment. It is really tough to smile and pretend. Eat healthy, try to get enough sleep, prepare your plans. Are you allowed to go on to college? That'll give you some breathing room. If not, start looking at ads for jobs and apartments early, get an idea what they cost, and where you want to live. Save any money you have towards your new place. Figure out transportation, so the day you leave, you've got it all ready. That's what I did, I plotted for years, but once I walked, I never had to go back. One fine day, you'll escape and it'll be sweet!

Why Some Stay In The Organization
by Outaservice indon't you think a lot of brother's stay with the watchtower because in the real world they would never be anybody so-to-speak.
they would never even attain their '15 minutes of fame' that many have.. but, at the hall, they get to get up in front of an audience, and people listen to them as if they really have something to say!
and they're given a 'title' such as elder, ministerial servant, microphone handler (wow) etc.

Like Gary said... the fathers aren't too well educated, and the cycle continues with the next generation. Not that I counted anyway, being just a girl. But I remember trying to read my school books in the car on the way to the meetings. I'd go out to the car again, after the meeting and try to do my homework under the streetlight while they had one of their long winded elder's meetings. Fortunately, I was a speed reader and managed to do fairly well in school. Not that anyone cared. School wasn't very important, as long as I didn't get held back a grade, because that could delay my graduation and pioneering.
I worked with an elder who was a mail carrier. He had many pretexts to stop by the Post Office on his day off, so we could all get a look at him in his suit, tie, and snappy italian leather shoes. That meant the world to him, to hear people say, "Wow, T, check you out! You look so nice, all dressed up! What's the occasion?" Then he could strut and tell us that he was a minister of Jehoopla, and he had a talk tonight at the Kingdumb Hall! I think he was partly sincere in his belief the Dubs had the truth, and partly puffed up with his own importance from all the admiration he got. This man is Hispanic, and I don't think (not positive tho) he finished high school. But he was somebody important in the congregation, and that's hard to give up.

Shudder! Why did we have the idea it looked nice to wear those awful jackets with those dreadful long skirts? I was as guilty as the next sister. But that was in the 80's! I see they haven't updated their styles much.

I'm taking my husband to his favorite restaurant tonite, it's German and decorated like a Bavarian Chalet inside. After dinner, for a surprise, they will bring a Black Forest Torte to the table. I have a card to give him, with a gift certificate inside. Hope he likes my plans!

Daily Text for 2/14/2007
by VanillaMocha73 ink... this gave me a laugh... anyone got the whole article?.
.
...despite the wiles of the foremost apostate, satan the devil, the spiritual vigilance of the faithful and discreet slave class has helped true christians to remain loyal to jehovah and his word.

After I read this, I asked myself, "What exactly did that long, rambling sentence say?" I think it was mostly an excuse to harp about apostates again!

In the interest of political correctness....
by Stealth453 ini move that we make our use of the name jehovah reflect our ethnicity.. for example:.
mexico, jehombre.
france, jehalloutte.

By their fruits
by Bobhere ini am not saying that all elders are heartless but i do believe the wt rules lead them in that direction.. after i was df i continued to go to all the meetings.
at one of the meetings an elder who was on the commitee that gave me the boot was giving my 10year old son counsel on his student talk.
he said that his talk was good and that if he needs any help with his next talk he would be happy to help him.

Welcome to the board, bobhere! Well, I think that eldumb was just an ignorant ass. As if you don't know anything now, just because you're df'd! You have all the same knowlege as you had before and are as capable of helping your son as ever! He had to know that remark was likely to get back to you. Not very Christian or loving, just hurtful. Take care.
