Are there penguin elders with a book of instructions that a rebellious teenage penguin steals and puts on the internet? Just thinking of Richie.

Well... There *are* penguin elders (and they are referred to as "elders") and there *is* a committee meeting and the teenage penguin *is* a sort of rebel/independent and he *is* put out from the community and he misses his mom.

I don't want to give away much of the plot. But I really did see alot of Richie in the main character. (Even his size and height was an identifying characteristic.)

I just saw the movie this evening. Went with an ex-jw friend of mine. We both cried several times!! (One of us even sobbed a couple of times. )

OK, now don't spoil it for us, but does the df'd penquin pull a RichieRich, and bring the hammer down on the totalitarian penguins?

Actually, I thought about Richie many times during this movie. Many times. In many ways.

I wanted to see this when I was in NJ/NYC a couple of months ago. I was not able to get tickets as all shows were sold out.

I already have tickets for March 9 (I think that's the date) with some friends. If only I had thought to ask you two months ago!!

I've only heard good reviews so should bea good show.

daft fashion question

before i got pregnant i bought some nice short sleeve shirts, now that i've had my baby they are quite tight across the chest and my belly, so i was wondering if i could wear them open with a vest top underneath, or would this look daft?.

I thought you were talking about something like a 'waistcoat' too and just couldn't get an appropriate image of it.

I even started to doubt fullofdoubt's taste and style.

LOL. NOW I see the difference. What you were calling a 'vest' in america we would be more likely to call it a 'camisole' or maybe even a 'tank top'.

Both would look fine under an open shirt. But a 'vest' or 'waistcoat'?? Ummm No.

my uncle ( a very sweet man) is practically confined to a wheelchair... in recent years he has developed a renued emphasis on all things jdubery.

because of his poor health, he has a phone ministry from his home in the texas panhandle.

there are even a few other witnesses that have joined him in this.

I think that's what Richie was doing when the 'borrowed' the Flock Book.

Seems to me that phone witnessing was the reason he was in the elder's house.

Reflecting on a year of freedom

this is my 5000th post, and on wednesday it will be a year to the date since i was announced as no longer being one of jehovahs witnesses.

i sent my da letter a few weeks prior to that, but i suppose it became official when it was announced.

so i thought i'd look back on the last 12 months, and see where i am now compared to then.

Does anyone remember?

but does anyone else remember the "demon scare" back in the 60s or 70s?

the watchtower came out with articles about demon possession.

My dad was and elder and PO during the 70's. He gave quite a few 'out' talks and I would always want to go with him when he gave the talk: 'Deliver Us From the Wicked One.' It was about demon possessed people and objects and how important it was to know the history of each item in our homes. Got troubles? Immoral thoughts??

Must be dem ddemons.

Stinky boys

my oldest son is 12 and he has a friend the same age who lives across the street (i'll call him gilbert).

gilbert likes to come over and play video games with my son.

if i allowed it gilbert would be over everyday possiblely spending quite a few overnite here too.

It seems extreme, but I suppose if he wasn't getting the not-so-subtle hints, the direct approach may have been all that you are left with. Did he ever mention that 'scene' to you again? Must have been pretty embarrassing for him at the time.

I haven't had a serious talk about this with non-family members, but in my own family it was just matter-of-fact. Some educational stuff relating to hormonal and body changes creating a 'smell' and bathing is just more important now. Probaby time to start using deodorant, too. The next visit to the supermarket included a trip to the toiletries isle and I let them pick out what ever deodorant they wanted. (Even if it cost an extra dollar or two - it was well worth the boost to their esteeme and my own enjoyment of being in their presence.) Both boys also got their own set of nice bath linens. Plush and durable. A double set so their friends would have something to use if they needed to shower up and no need to have the towels get stinky, too. Always had a clean set in the closet.

For MrsJones - I think a little gift basket is nice idea. And/or could you ask your son if he notices the stink on his friend? Tell him he'd be doing the friend a HUGE favor if he told him that other people can tell and maybe he should be sure to bathe every day with soap. And maybe twice. It might be a good exercise for your son - *IF* he has noticed the stench himself. If he hasn't yet, he might take note you mentioning it.

Oh!! How about this?? Next time they walk in to your house, you just roll your eyes and head and say: Whew!! ONE or BOTH of you stink!! Both of you go take showers right now. Throw your clothes in the hallway so I can wash them and I'll set some warm clean towels and some robes for you to wear while I wash the dirty clothes. Then have a nice little snack ready after they are back in their clean clothes smelling like young gentlemen.

Maybe?? Maybe not.. Good Luck!!

a big thank you to those who created this board and for all the amazing people who post here.. truth be told (no pun intended) i have seen other religious boards out there but never felt compelled to join since i didn't feel qualified to speak one way or the other regarding their beliefs.

this board is another story.

i was raised as a witness but never thought so many people all over the world had a similiar past as i did.
