us pastor says will burn koran despite petraeus concernshttp://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100907/pl_afp/afghanistanunrestusreligionislampastor.
tue sep 7, 9:21 am et end .byline washington (afp) the pastor of a small florida church said tuesday he will go ahead with his plans to hold a koran burning this week, despite warnings by the us commander of the afghan war of violent reactions in the islamic world.terry jones, who heads the dove world outreach center in gainesville florida, said he had given "serious" consideration to the concerns expressed by general david petraeus over plans to torch a koran to mark the ninth anniversary of the september 11 terror attacks, but said he would proceed anyway.. "we are taking the general's words very serious.
we are continuing to pray about the action on september 11th," he said.. nevertheless, he said "we have firmly made up our mind" to go ahead with burning the muslim holy book.. "i mean, how long, when does america stand for truth?
I just heard on the news that the Koran burning has been cancelled by the 'Pastor'.

just a quick poll if you will.... i personally hate to cook.
it's not that i'm particularly bad at it, i just don't have a whole lot of patience or motivation to do it.
i suppose it has something to do with my having to live alone?
This past year I've done more cooking than I have in decades. I am enjoying it but a big part of keeping it enjoyable for me is that I do not *have* to do it. There is no set schedule. And if I don't want to, I don't have to.
I'm really liking fresh herbs, vegetables, lemons, limes, ginger. I did not grow up with this sort of freshness and sooo love it!

i hesitate to call her step mom.
i was grown by the time my dad married her.. just a little background to catch you all up.
my father died the end of last december.
That really sucks.
And I'm with you, I would not call her 'stepmom'. She is your father's wife. Just as I don't call my brother's new wife 'my sister-in-law'. That woman is just my brother's wife.

one of my best friends with whom i grew up (and pioneered) with has been disfellowshipped for the past 6 years.
his parents are still witnesses and, though they've been grieved over the fact that he's not a jw, they've always treated him well, and he pays them regular visits every month.. well he just informed me today that "the watchtower came out with stricter rules... my parents flat-out told me in person they can barely have any contact with me from now on.
" he's pretty depressed about it.. of course, the position on the disfellowshipped has largely been, "if they're out of the org, they're dead to you, family or not.
I think I remember hearing about an article on this about 6 months (??) ago. It's possible that the parents rationalized their stance at the time and then a circuit overseer visit or other talk made them go back and re-read the article?
As I recall, it was pretty direct.
For a discussion and reivew of nearly each WT study, you can look back at the poster named 'Blondie'. She has a weekly 'column' here (JWN) called "Comments you will not hear...".
Here is a link to some of Blondie's threads. None are jumping out at me as one that would re-inforce family shunning, but something may spark you. Hopefully someone else will have info for you.

i'm trying to ways to furnish my apartment.
now, unfortunately, i'm going to be renting my furniture because i do not want an empty apartment with only a bed because it'll be my first apartment in like 8 years.
i need my apartment to look elegant.
for no money, try www.freecycle.org. If you live near a well-to-do location, be sure to subscribe to that area, too.
For decorating ideas, I cannot help. When I moved a few years ago, my best decorating effort was selecting a beautiful view. And that has become my 'primary theme'.
Oh! To impress people, nothing impresses more than C-L-E-A-N. Pay special attention to the bathroom and kitchen. Especially the bathroom, where people are alone and undistracted.

this may have been brought up here before, but it's hilarious:.

i love how they use an apocalypse illustration on the watchtower, the look on the monkey's face..
A few years ago there was a JWD poster who had the 'Evil JW Monkey' as his/her avatar.
Hilarious!

i'm new here, this is my first post.
have been reading so many comments from you guys over the past few months and now i can finally comment too!.
it is amazing how long it took me to see that jw's are not god's organization and that their teachings do not really find support in the bible.. now i'm not really sure what i believe.
Welcome. Glad to have you join us.

violating the restraining order his ex wife placed on him.
i am not sure if it is from his first(jw) or second (non jw) ex wife.
how long will it take him to get out of jail?, so i can talk to him again.
Arraignment is usually within 72 hours of arrest. At that time the judge will decide whether to release him or hold him. Also, his attorney will likely petition for bail or release on OR.
the mr is a jw-started back into studying 3 years ago, got baptized 2 years ago.
i've never been one, nor have an interested (was raised catholic, now am a pagan - uu).. i'm just starting this thread to see how you all deal with it.. thanks.

Jgnat and Carla.
Look back at some of their threads for some good info.
Jgnat in particular had a series of threads for what she called 'UBMs' - UnBelieving Mates. She started with the premise that to call them 'unbelieving' (in WT-speak) is really insulting because she is very much a believing christian.
Here is a quick link to some of Jgnat's threads:
