Nope. Not allowed to give blood.
It's also hypocritical to accept aid from Red Cross, etc but they pretty much refuse to contribute. (Although contributing to Red Cross is not a judicial offence, AFAIK)

this might seem to be a silly question, but if jw are allowed to accept certain blood fractions, they could consider participating in providing these fractions?
would be ok for a jw to donate his/her blood, if it is under the condition that it can only be used for the production of specified fractions?
has anyone asked the society (gb) this question, or is there already a thread on this?

so, there we all are in the break room in my place of work, and the topic turns to the holiday shopping madness.
this co-worker starts to say how expensive this holiday season has been for him and that he's still not done, and too bad when the day comes the family members will find fault or something else wrong with his gifts, and to make things worst, that the wife also was purchasing gifts with his credit card so he feared the january statement.. so, i jokingly told him that one way he can remedy that is by telling his family that he's been studying the bible and that he won't be celebrating christmas this year as he's studying to become a jw.
they all laughed loudly and the guy, second by others in the room, told me that i just didn't know how good i had it being a jw this time of the year.

Actually, I know many people who celebrate without going to excess. It's really a matter of personal choice and self-control as too how much someone will spend.
As a JW, I had the same response as DY about giving at any time during the year. I really wanted to believe it and, to an extent, did believe that the holiday's were just selfish and bothersome. At the same time I realized that we were really missing out on some wonderful memory-making traditions and experiences.
Non-JWs can and do also give at non-holiday occaisions, too.
@Mary - Yikes! I think the a**hole comment was unwarranted.

It works that way on Google, too. And many other search engines/features.
For a specific phrase, put it between quotation marks like this: "The Sound of Music"+"Julie Andrews". Or whatever exact phrases you want to search for.

But Outlaw, her concern is how to quickly find her favorite and most-pertinent posts after she has amassed a posting history as expansive as yours.
It takes alot of time to wade through 18913 separate pages of posts. Doesn't it?

Adding BTTT to a thread brings it to the top of the 'Active Topics' list - where the current action is.
By posting BTTT or anything, it also adds that thread to your personal 'Posted On' list here on JWN.
Depending on your browser it can be possible to add the page to your own personally-created folder that can be edited and re-organized as you prefer. With Internet Explorer, to 'Add to Favorites' look at the Upper Left corner of your window. You should see a little orange star and next to that there is another little orange star with a plus sign in front of it. Click the star and plus sign and follow the prompts. When it's time to recall that link, click on the little star withOUT the plus and you will see all your favorite pages that you have previously marked (not just JWN links).
To find a post within JWN using the search feature, type in a few key words with "+" between them. I will often also include my user name so I get just my thread that have those key words. This works because I nearly always close my posts with my user name. [ie: if I search for blood+aude, I get only 4 pages of topics I've posted on along with a sentence from that thread. Much easier than searching through all my prior posts for the past 5 years.]
Try it yourself by searching on JWN for the words: grandmajones+organize
It's not perfect, but may be useful to you.
Happy Searching!

i've recently been involved in a thread in which one of the participants, member of this board since april last year and who has made over 1200 posts, had not been aware of the 1975 failure.
isn't that unusual?
it tells me that this board is inefficient at getting the message out.
You want they should take an IQ test??
There are soo many issues related to JW's and the org has distanced itself from 1975 and just about done with 1914.
There are many reasons why someone would not be aware of 1975. I don't think it's necessary to create a test to make sure they are educated enough before they join the site.
Also, some issues that are important to one poster, are irrelevent to another. Why should someone have to know all the issues when they only need/want to discuss one?
