The triple homocide was featured on Dateline tonight. (Possibly a repeat of original airdate Aug 2010).
Bimla was presented as a 'devout Jehovah's Witness'. No mention made of her being an ex-jw.
What a crazy story.

a few years ago many of the posters on jwd got together and submitted their faavorite holiday recipes which i edited and complied into a jwd holiday cookbook called food in due season.
the book was made available free for forum members .. well for anyone who could get it i guess lol.
it hasn't been available for a while and i know simon is very busy so i have put it up on sendspace for you.

there was a 'white elephant' gift exchange at my job today.
i finally got involved, for the first time ever.
(i couldn't last year because i needed plausible deniability, as i was still a jw on paper at the time.
Congrats! Glad you had fun.
And you pretty much summed up how I felt the first time I put my gift in the mix. I participated 6 times at work. Four or five of those gifts I use all the time and give me warms fuzzies when I do. I hope the recipients of my gifts feel the same way.

i've been reading the gospel of mary magdalene and have come across some interesting things.

1. she obviously had a great connection to jesus, but was not present at pentecost.

has anyone else, after leaving the restrictive rules of the jw world, tried having an open marriage, joining the 'lifestyle' of the swinger comunity?
we've been doing that for about 4-5 months now and it's been an interesting experience, in fact it's been a major distraction from the hell of rebuilding our lives outside the religion and our base of friends.

Techdotcom - I'm curious about your age group. Not wanting to pry too far or presesnt info that could identify you, would you mind sharing the general age group of you and your wife. (ie: under 25, 30-something, 40's, 50's, over 60).

is there any conflict with jws and aa or other 12 step recovery programs?.
was there in the past, if there isn't conflict today?.
My point of reference is circa 1980 - so it could be *very* out-of-date, per WTS standards.
At the time, someone was studying and he was also a recovering alcoholic so attending many AA meetings each week. He had to discontinue his studies, in part, because his study conductor wanted him to quit AA as it was viewed, to the conductor, as a religion.

so my mother calls me on thanksgiving thursday and tells me about a fellow in her kh that i knew quite well.
he grew a beard years ago and stopped field recruiting, but kept going to the kh several times a month as his wife was still active.
the elders never really tried to show concern for his depression, but always bugged him about the beard.
That's just so sad. My heart aches for her.
A JW family friend of ours died about 7 years ago. She active/inactive for years. Diagnosed with bi-polar disorder (manic depression at the time) and also seemed to have developed some form of social anxiety and agorphobia (fear of going outside).
While she was still alive, her son was talking about her to me one day. So happy that they had finally gotten off all her meds. She was back to meetings, out in service, etc.
About a year later, I got a call that she was dead. NO ONE would give me any details.
I was unable to attend the funeral (too far and too expensive for airfare) but there were MANY in attendance at dinner for her. Photos were taken and several sent to me.
My gut tells me that she killed herself. Her 'active' transformation was just too quick to have been genuine healing. I believe that the details of her death were kept hidden so as not to stumble others and yet allow the family to have some comfort in jw-style closure.
I could be wrong. Could just be that people were not giving me info because *I* was inactive at the time (although still an apologist).
Sorry to digress. This story just reminded me of my friend.

i don't want to get graphic with this and get this thread locked, so please don't go overboard with answers.. i was having a discussion with someone about the jw experience, and was wondering if, since "jehovah" is an important part of the religion, during the moments of intense passion in a relationship, would you yell out, "oh, jehovah!
oh, jehovah!".
seriously, would a witness do that?.
Nope.
But I would be thinking that Jehovah and Angels and Demons were watching.
I may have a few exhibitionistic tendencies, but thinking they were watching was *not* a turn on.
Man! Those were crazy, mind-f*cking times.
