While waiting for the 'Toot Your Own Horn' thread to be created, I'll add my 2 cents on the 'popularity' topic...
It's a little sad that this thread got hijacked with the (tedious) detractors. My take on the purpose of the thread was not so much popularity or notoriety, but something else entirely. I took it to mean a connection of sorts. Some poster or posters at the time that each of us joined hooked us. Someone or something gave us tug to stick around or come back and check again.
Some of those posters have moved on. Some are still here. I found it like listening to a songwriter tell about who influenced him/her. It helps me see a little more texture and depth to a person when I know who they looked to for inspiration, encouragement, insight, - or who outraged them.
I didn't take this thread to be about popularity at all. More about inspiration and connectivity.
Now I'm off to find that Horn Tootin' Thread...

Edited to Add: Also, In reading some of the names from years past, it's reminded me of a few people I'd chatted with and since lost touch with. Some I've gone back and searched a few of their threads. Thank you to whoever it was that started this one.

My very first weeks: Brummie, SheilaM, Jez, UtopianReformist, Cruzanhart, jgnat, BigTex.
I stumbled on Mario's dramatic post just 2 days before Talia died. Took me a day to read it and I caught up in time to get the post that she was gone.
I still look for their posts.

I just read the other responses...

My impression of you from prior posts is that you could conduct yourself exactly like this. I, too, believe that this could have profound effect on your friend. Even if he doesn't accept your research, he will have to believe that you are extremely sincere in your decisions and it will pain him to proceed with a JC. The pain will be good for him. It may wake him to the reality of the org.
What a wonderful feeling when ou don't have to live a lie anymore. What mental relief.

Hi Drew -
I hope all goes well (as can be expected) for you with this. Will your mom and wife cut ties with you??
As far as your packet, you know that many here have compiled much information. Confession is working on a project, too, and has posted some of his information on JWD.
I'm a 'fader' but can sure respect a decisive DA-er.
Best wishes.

How does the HLC find out so fast?
by carla inhow does the hlc find out someone is in the hospital so fast?
does a family member call?
does the hospital see the 'no blood' in their records and call?

When you are admitted, the paperwork that gets filled out included a space to declare your religion. If "jw" gets put in that box, it goes with all the other info on the form into the computer and there's a printout. Same with all other religions.
I suggest that everyone check with their hospital of record to what religious affiliation is noted before you are admitted due to emergency. Even if you change it immediately upon arrival, it may be too late.

I have wondered if the lead topics under the specific categories were updated manually. There only seems to be a new just once or twice a day at best. Yet several new threads are created under various categories every hour.
I learned early on to go straight to 'Active Topics' first. Then to specific catetories.
